there are some good points here, but i would say most beginners and intermediate players have two basic problems with their smash: 1) failure to move far enough behind the shuttle. this problem is due largely to laziness. you want to smash but you dont want to do the work required. that is just a bad attitude. fix your attitude and accept the work, and you'll see rapid improvement, 2) failure to generate power from legs pushing off floor. you covered this point in several ways but not quite explicitly enough. the lazy player always believes he can do things without deeply engaging his legs. this is what you always see in players below the advanced level. huge resistance to getting low and engaging the large muscles required to move explosively. smash power comes from your legs. there is an upward flow of energy that involves hip rotation, a preloaded, open chest and supinated arms, a swing that goes up high and has time to develop velocity, pronation (in both arms), and grip tightening at the instant of shuttle contact. handling all of this in a smooth continuous way is a fine art that cant be learned quickly, but none of it can happen if you dont begin with the foundation, which is at the floor. all your power comes from the floor. begin by getting into your legs and finding the power there
Thanks for your tutorial, other than that for beginners is to Smash until you get the feeling like whip the shuttle, let racket do the work until get the feeling your racket can't your power anymore. Time to change your racket from flexible to stiff, little by little, same with string tension. This will help a lot for improving smashing techniques.
Great tutorial 👍🏻. Maybe do a tutorial of an overhead swing and explain more about swinging with shoulder against swinging with forearm, wrist and concise. Again, great video 👍🏻
Thnku aylex sir , this tutorial got my mistakes just right. U replicated the wrong/right forms quite well(for me), i could visualise my long term errors.
Took me a year before I finally fully understood what was meant in the first tip. I was using too much shoulder for a year till i realized I can get the same if not more power with just my forearm.
There is another cause of losing power, you have to hit the shuttle as square on the racket as possible to the direction of the target. If its not square you will have slice on the strings causing a resultant force with the angle. That is if you understand physics.
Can you please also mention the point where the full face of the racquet is not meeting the shuttle causing it to slice and thus reducing power and accuracy. And how to correct it. Thanks a lot for the amazing content.
Many thanks buddy for this video. Earlier, when I finished an hour of badminton, my forearm would pain and people told me I was using the wrong technique. The correct technique is to use the shoulder more. So, is my techique correct then? Specially during back court play aside from smashing?
I see some mistakes not allowing for efficiency in power generation. 1) Body is too stiff; 2) Swing is mostly done through Arm movement (and initiating with the elbow) rather than full body; (which leads to #3) 3) Swing is done with the body remaining upright instead of tilted/slanted (body is upright vertically, and arm is traveling straight and parallel to the body); 4) Very little transfer of Force through the kinetic chain (so no power in those smashes); While I agree that forearm and finger power are very important, the Smash is a *full body movement.* The forces coming from the feet > legs > hips > core > shoulders all combine to pull the arm through the swinging motion at great speeds. Subsequently, the faster you can move the Head of the Racket through its range of motion, the more Force you can transfer into the shuttle. Unfortunately, there is only so much power you can generate through the arm and forearm alone as shown in the video. Don't just take my word for it. If you want some examples/references, just take a look at the fastest smashers in the world and look at their technique.
@@AylexBadmintonAcademy it looks exactly like your demo of the ‘wrong’ way. And our coaches advise us to follow through as well to maximise momentum distributed to shuttle
I generate power on my smash the same way I clear. The only difference is that the contract is more in front of me for a downward angle. Is this correct?
Hi, I'm still a beginner, I would like to try a new racket, do u reccomend me to get a slight HH racket or should I go for HL instead to get that basics first? :)
Beginners shouldn't learn how to smash the ball yet..... instead just try to hit as far as possible to the other side... and get used to the feeling of hitting every shot with the right sound... However, every desperate beginner especially adult, thinking of playing for long term, should consider getting a decent racket & badminton shoes... ie, brands like Yonex, Victor, Wilson, Li-ning etc... because badminton is fun and it's even more fun if getting more familiar with the basics...
