I worked on this game...the intent was to make a fun easy to play soccer game...the noa sales dept passed on the game and there was no time to change the name to football...gps already had prior relationship w nintendo, I think the owner worked on some snes titles.
Wow, thanks for commenting! Great to hear from someone who worked on the game. Were you suprised at how ‘under the radar’ it went? I think it’s a really fun game with some unique selling points. I could have seen it getting much more coverage than it did.
@@TimelessGamingUK Obviously we were hoping for better, but the non-mainline Nintendo games always had challenges no matter how good they were...I did think we were going to get a US release and we put some effort into making it appealing to US audiences...but Soccer was not as popular then as it is now so ultimately its treatment was not too shocking.
Just wanted to drop in a quick thank you for developing this game. It was one of the main games I've played growing up. Have hundreds of hours in it and still own it - the cartridge cover came completely off due to how much I played it after buying the GB Advanced SP.
That is a pretty accurate Reggie in terms of looks. I'm impressed. Good comprehensive review by the way, a real shame this little gem was only released in Europe.
Thanks so much for taking the time to watch this, I really enjoy your reviews so your praise means a lot! On an unrelated note I picked up a nice boxed copy of Plok for the SNES on your recommendation, haven't had a chance to play it yet but flicking through the manual had me chuckling so I've got high hopes for the game.
GBC can do FMV. Most famously in Cannon Fodder, but also Towers: Lord Baniff's Deceit and Space Station Silicon Valley. Don't know of the GB ever did it, but Super Turrican on the SNES also had FMV. Apparently this game was programmed by Mike Follin, the third Follin brother. www.mobygames.com/game/gameboy-color/pocket-soccer/credits Oh and GameFAQs got a review from 2006. It earned high praise.
Great knowledge as always, Ryuma King! I was planning on picking up a couple of those games at some point, but I had no idea they had FMV cutscenes, that's really cool.
Somehow, I got a memeory of this game, flying trough in my mind! This game was amazing, and I remember the 8 bit music was amazing. I'm trying to find the music but couldn't find any... do you know where I can find these Soundtracks?

Impressive game and looks fun too
Sweet Cholmondley-Warner clip!
Great find! This looks about as good as you can get for 8-bit soccer.

This looks great, it's got a Sensible Soccer vibe to it, I am heading to eBay now.
The game I had that I don’t even know how to Control
great vid, not a big football fan - but this looks a pretty good handheld game :)
Thanks Chris. Yeah, I'm amazed it's so obscure because it's a really solid game.
Better than fifa 19
