I just got my Polestar 2 at the end of August. It's the new model with dual motors. One long trip so far, and I'm very happy with the car in general and the charging speed in particular. Also, thanks for the video.
My P2 has the 19” wheels. Cooler more restrained look. The 20 inch wheels make the car look “overtired” and shout too loud. I love the P2 because it’s so stealth and doesn’t alienate as much like Tesla, BMW i series .and even Audi ETron. Not a perfect car by any means, interior needs some ergonomic mods, but not a deal breaker. Car is a hoot to drive and not having a gas bill, oil changes, smog tests, etc. is such a lifestyle change. I have a home charger so EV ownership has been a pleasure. 2 years and no maintenance issues.
Impressive. Efficiency is helped by its drag coefficient of 0.23 akin to Tesla Model Y. Thanks Bjorn. Excellent real-world testing plus a lot of fun to boot! 😅 Lotsa love to all ❤❤❤
I would like to see winter-test for this car. Volvo (=Polestar) has long been known for it's winter capabilities like handling on icy/snowy surfaces, warmth and good seats.
I have a friend with the AWD version of this 2024 Polestar 2. He says it is the best winter car he has ever had, but he has no experience of other EV:s, only German gas/diesel cars so it is not really comparable. Yet he is very happy with his AWD Polestar 2.
PS2 revisions look great, and are obviously making a real difference on the longer runs. It’s on my shortlist for a first-ever EV in a couple of years time, but I’d go for 19’ wheels… eek a bit more range out!
I agree this is a big deal and Polestar deserves kudos for improving these fundamentals. I also agree EVs should be AWD or RWD, not FWD. I hope Tesla brings back the RWD long range Model 3.
Thanks Bjorn - another great video - I I can't wait for my MY24 LR RWD P2 which is due for delivery handover next month. Interesting to see in the other video about the quick speed and also that the sound was on par with other cars. Also it was interesting to see the edited video after watching the live recording - these 1000km tests are epic so good on you for putting in all these hours!
Had mine for 4 weeks now, on a road trip from north of uk, doing a circuit of the Netherlands and back. The car is pretty damn perfect.. Looks, Comfort, range & charging speed... Loving it. Hope you do too!
Just to provide some other perspective... fwd offers benefit on low power single motor EVs since it allows for a larger part of regen breaking especially in slippery conditions, but provides less traction on fast acceleration.
For a couple of years ago the Polestar 2 really was my dream car. I think it still looks really good today, and the update gives it a fresh look again. But in 2023, I feel the consumption is too high, especially considering it has been updated. Just compare it to a BMW i4, not to mention the Model 3 ofcourse. I'd happily own one, but in 2023 with my own money I'd be shopping elsewhere.
I wish that I could get this but in a slightly bigger body. Its my only complaint about my current Polestar 2. The Volvo EVs are nice but they only come with the dual motor drivetrain in the US.
Good to see they're making improvements. I have 2023 LR DM and I can say I'm fairly disappointed overall for a £54k car + a brand which position themselves as premium/luxury. The drivetrain has a lot of power, but it also has all sort of vibrations - maybe this got improved by moving the motor to the rear. Ride & handling over bendy roads is poor. Don't mistake this as a sporty car just because it has a lot of power! The front seats are a low quality. I have the Plus pack giving me the upgraded ones. However after the first 2 months they started coming loose. The side bolsters are wobbly & making cracking noises, the lumber support makes weird noises and recently, all sorts of clicking sounds coming from the bottom part just going around a roundabout. I don't know if the leather seats (included in this video) are better, I hope they are given how much extra $$$ they cost. I've driven a lot of cars in my life, some of them with over 160k km, over 10y old, but I've never had seats so poor quality. Definitely didn't see this coming given how close Polestar is to Volvo and Volvo has been making car seats for decades. Unfortunately the Polestar warranty isn't keen on fixing any of these issues as they say it's "characteristic of the car". They know they have quality issues and fixing all of these it would mean they would be bleeding money all over. Otherwise I think the car is great, I love the software & the design.
I had a P2 as a rental for a week. I don’t like that you can’t use the armrest at the same time as the cupholder. At the same time the gearselector take to much space. The could added a secondary cupholder
The "poo Man's Polestar" with the upgraded $4k (USD) perforated/ventilated leather seats and the Plus Package, and upgraded 20" wheels (about every perk you can get) and a paint that cost more money... NOtmany Poor man's car around $60K.....
Model 3 made its first improvement to interior noise 6 years after initial release, surely we can give Polestar the same amount of time. Good video as always thanks!
It definitely wasn't the first time Model 3 cabin noise has been improved, Tesla definitely did it at least once when they switched to acoustic glass in the front windows few years ago, plus there may be some other minor improvements before.
Tesla already improved the interior from 2021: 2x wireless charging pads, motorized lift gate, better center console materials, better door and dashboard finish, faster CPU, metal scroll wheels on steering wheels, better headlights, heat pump, double glazed windows
I took a polestar 2 test drive a few weeks ago. The car felt more quiet compared to my 2021 Model 3 on 110 km motorway. I also did some measurements with an app on my phone to confirm it, but I'm not sure how accurate the app was. Anyways, I'm surprised to hear people complain about it.
An improvement, no doubt, but average consumption still looks awfully high?... It´s strange that there would be only 20 minutes difference with the M3LR, which is considerably more efficient and charges faster. Perhaps time for a rematch? Maybe with the Highland? Looking forward to that one!
Nice improvements but sadly no improved noise insulation and also still sadly no USB music. That last bit is really purting me off buying Volvo/Polestar. With the Bowers & Wilkins coming in the P*3 it is pure stupidity not to offer USB music. Just why?!?
Glad to see they improved the efficiency and charging issues, although the efficiency is still 30% below Tesla. When I rented one, the road noise and ergonomics were horrible, Polestar still needs to redesign the interior and fix all the software issues. The center screen is very large but the UI wastes so much of the screen space with giant graphics that the screen could be half the size.
It was well thought that front wheel drive cars made their way better in the snow than rear wheel drive cars. Then rear-wheel drive cars could skid more easily also on slippery surfaces. Some like it but that might be another story
Bjorn, when u plan to test 1000 km challenge with Zeekr 001? I think u say in one episode that be soon when u present Zeekr 001 and Lotus Eletre. This car is most intresting because is in price range with Tesla model Y but much better quality and one more thing. Zeekr have 22 kW AC charging. For me every car must have 22kW AC charging over 50 kwh battery!
Zeekr 001 and the upcoming Polestar 4 are sisters. They should perform similarly, so whichever car he tests first, those things will probably apply to the other car, with some small differences.
@@tobias_dahlberg Yes, they share same Geely SEA platform with ssame battery pack, ac and dc charging speed. Only difference is the drag coefficient. They have different body shape.
The short answer is: the government does not actually BUILD, but they do plan everything and they are part of the entire process. In Sweden, for many years it was the government that did the work. Today, it is the government that plans, specifies and does all the requirements and planning efforts, then a company like Svevia (who was previously owned by the state but is now privately owned) actually builds the roads and does maintenance. But there is a very close relationship between the two. You will have representatives from the government visiting and doing validation of the work, as they have done all the planning and need to see that it has been done like it should. The projects are always led by the government agency. For city streets, the municipality in question are responsible for their streets and will have their own infrastructure division similar to the big one in Sweden.
I’m wondering how you’re realizing that high consumption with cruise control set to 110. My average consumption during the German summer is always below 20kWh even on highway trips with higher top speed.🤷🏼♂️ My car is a 2022 SRSM.
Not with Björns "cement foot" on the accelerator😅 on my long drives (2023 SRSM) I've been getting less than 160wh/100km by just driving the speed limit (110 in almost all of Sweden)
It's a small car, but the weight is more than a model y. And the shape is like a small suv. So it's not possible for this car to be very efficient. But right now with LRSM you should not worry about the range, it's kind of the top tier in Europe
Looking at the end statistics, they need to work on the efficiency. If they make it use less energy it could be a good deal. Right now Tesla model 3 LR is still better deal. And if the facelift will be treu to it's promises of ~10% better efficiency, it will continue to be best choice.
But you shouldn't really need a mobile phone to make the journey. it is the navigator in the car that will help you. which will show you where to charge the car. and should also do the mathematical calculation. because you don't have to be a mathematician.
