In today’s episode of the ABI Dirt, Matt gives us a crash course in hydraulic top links for your tractor’s 3pt lift system. This easy-to-forget connection point could be the key to saving you time and sweat when getting your work done.

LOVE LOVE LOVE my ABI Hydraulic top link! It's a must to have with a TR3! Super handy for smoothing rock, land and riding arenas! Thanks ABI!

Add some flow restrictors for fine tune work on the hydraulic top link.

Hello from South Lyon Michigan. Thanks for the video and demo. I'm thinking of using one of these to make a dump carry all for carrying firewood. Does this creep much?

      Hi Roger,
      I love the ingenuity!
No, our hydraulic cylinders don't creep much. They're able to hold the ~1,000 pound TR3 steady without any trouble.
      Hope this helps!

Would you be willing to have a loader that you could only push and lift with, without being able to tilt the bucket? Well basically, that is exactly what you get with a manual top link! After five years of frustration with a turnbuckle, I am finally on my way to installing a hydraulic top link. Yes, instead of just using the $88 screw that came with the tractor and cost me nothing, I am spending $1k on the upgrade. I’m excited, but there are literally enough options and specifics that I’m worried that I am making all the right decisions. It looks good so far, but I’m still waiting for a few parts to come in.

That's a great example, Steven! You've got all the power and ability of your 3pt and your attachment of choice, but without full control of range of motion you're not getting the most use out of it.
Best wishes as you get the parts in and get up and running!

What is that metal piece that spins on the manual top link? Is that a lock? It’s only on one side

      Hi Jim!
That little teardrop-shaped nut is called a top link locking collar. Once you've got your manual top link extended to the size you need, you can turn that collar tight against the center tube of the top link to prevent the threaded eye-bolt from turning back in (thus contracting your top link). -- It only needs to be installed on one side of the center tube because the threaded eye-bolts are opposite threaded... as long as one side is locked, the other won't be able to thread inward.
      Hope this helps!

I have a tractor and am a novice. I have yet to see someone actually show them using the controls to adjust the hydraulic top link. I am considering getting one but what control are you using if all you buy in parts is a couple of hoses and a hydraulic link? It's like watching a video on advantages of with zero on operation.

      Hi Garry,
That's a fair observation! Next time we grab a camera I'll look for a good opportunity to demonstrate the function of that hydraulic toplink.
      Thanks for reaching out!
