The last man grieving about his shop almost made me cry
i laughed my head off
@@Zakaria11111 woah, you're edgy aren't you? I'd pay to watch you go through a similar level of hardship, it would smack the laugh off your pathetic little face
@@Zakaria11111 of course you did with your cringey anime profile pic 🤦🏾♂️🤮
Spoilers.
@@Zakaria11111 wow, you are just so cool, i wish i was cool as you
Yes, it really seems that the biggest problem in postcolonial Lagos is too many shops. Yes, too many shops in an otherwise very well organized, secure and prosperous country where people have so many opportunities. Illegal shops put a tremendous burden on the shoulders of fine, honest policemen!
Of course, the government needs to get rid of these entrepreneurial types!
Awwww, heck! You're right! I'm from Africa😱
it takes a while to build it why didn't they tell them when they did that. If they don't they did it when there really wasn't as much government securing that. They say you shouldn't build without space for parking or practice no green and leaning tower of pizza next to self identified other leaning tower of pizza. If we both lean together we get a triangle roof! and possible STEAPLE ! lol .
lol
It's not about too many shops, it's about building without a permit, why should anyone respect the law and obtain permits and pay taxes if other people just see a space and build on it?
Other countries crush small businesses through taxes and regulations, Nigeria uses a bulldozer.
wow, great job guys, the area looked so much _nicer_ after wards,
They have to start somewhere don't they you ignorant fool
TheBraveOne So it will look more nice once the rubble clears away and the same people once living there are instead living without roofs over their head sprawled across the ground? The government is spending its resources (people, money, time, gasoline) to lessen the living standards for people in an area? Taking away their shops (which most likely double as homes) isn’t going to do nothing but increase poverty and homelessness. Instead the government should create job opportunities and instead have taxes, or a charge the shop keepers have to pay before they should demolish peoples life’s works and lifestyles.
The IQ on display here by the Lagos police force is astonishing..
😂😂😂😂
Yeah the lack of
"You know in Nigeria in Lagos some people just see space" this killed me haha.
One of Louis Theroux's best lines ever: "Do you know why they're smashing up your shop today?"
Poor fella though, just trying to make a living somehow and the authorities come and destroy it all.
What a fantastic police force not having any tolerance for anything short of the law. Bravo to these courageous men in highlighter
@1:56 AHA!!!
The pile of rubble sure looks nicer.
1:48 Officer was like, "Try and say nonsense lemme catch you" lol. I agree with the demolition team that these structures have to go. BUT my problem is why wait until the structures are fully built and people have started living or working there? This takes up to a year to get to that level. Better to serve people immediately than wait until they get too comfortable. In property law, they say "Equity favors the vigilant".
This means bribes may have been periodically collected to keep these shops standing until a more influential person gave the order for final demolishment. It is a nasty form of exploiting the poor.
I think he's been eating those Sour Patches 😂
Fantastic guys simply fantastic.
that last guy really got to me. poor man.
Literally complete chaos
am I the only one whos seeing a face on that tractor thing......
I see it too. Bob the Builder ain't fixing things anymore...
They are hard working people doing the best they can to earn an honest living, so instead of destroying their shops the local government could charge them a small tax.
Taxation is theft.
@@detrockcity3 let me guess, you dont want to pay any tax, but i bet you still want town water, roads to drive your car on, subsidised medications, garbage collection etc.
@@slickstrings
They 100% complain when they drive over potholes, and yet are anti-taxation
@@jackcr2477 But what if you pay taxes and there are still potholes 😶
We must call these guys to come and fetch them from Hillbrow.
They won't clearly state WHY they are doing what they aren't doing. He just wanted to show Louis the pig red X...
Them entrepreneurs should be encouraged not destroyed. A decentralised free market is exactly what you want not a centralised market with 1 or 2 major companies with zero competition, that’s a corrupt monopoly, these governments only have themselves to blame for there conditions
Nigeria still operates like a colony
It's largely a cash economy, and the government knows full well that it's nigh on impossible to get any tax from the businesses. Add in licensing (if they have it) and property tax etc and it's not exactly surprising, given the rampant corruption everywhere 👍
That's the point though, isn't it. They're not shutting down the large companies, but the small traders. It's all part of the plan.
That tractor has a face
imagine playing a joke on someone by spray painting a red X on their house
Louis is great. On the ground in Lagos, finding out the local disputes and removals.
His face @1.50!!!!!
uniforms lit
Sme damn fine police work right here
It has been marked.
What a stupid question is that, to ask the man how he feels about the task force??? I mean, they are destroying his shop! Right in front of him! How should he feel about that? And to ask him that right in front of the chief of that task force, as if he would answer that question freely then.
I think the point was that he couldn't answer freely with them around even though what he really thought was obvious - because the police are corrupt bullies.
This needs subtitles.
Many people in Lagos, Lagos need more development especially road and electricity
DEN WHY DID U REFUSE TO MOVE YA TINGS !!! ONLY GOD ONLY GOD!!!!!!!
make it look nicer lol
that moment cracked me up
standing in front of tons of trash "improve the way it looks
make it look nicer." xdd
he had "SEAMEN" inside...
poor guy who lost his shop ,poxy world it just aint right ,aint everyone got the right to have food a roof n family ,and work ,,aint that what lifes about ,,its so worng
In Lagos people see a space and build a structure 😅. Sounds good to me.
Now this is what I call first world progress
Would the interviewer be ok, if someone build "house" Attached to his house?
who the hell did that blockwork?
Africans
I wonder how much the area boys pay the police.

really sickening
Lawless land, clowns with bright 👕👕, gangs
@1:18
lol
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
This is pure comedy
When govenment gets to powerful
Thunder will fire all those people that destroying Nigeria by destroying people's shops and and arresting street traders by taking poor people money.
this awesome when you put reggae music...ya maan..
It must be hard but they probably new the risk when they built the shop. Imagine that i build a shop in center of Central Park on a satates land and then act angry when authorities put it down..
But it's not in the center of Central Park... it's in between two lines of houses. More than likely, this whole thing was a demonstration for the BBC cameras. They would have had weeks or more notice that Louis and the crew were coming; they want to make an example of something. As the guy said, his shop had been there for years then they suddenly decide to destroy it. The country is corrupt from top to bottom. The police allow known criminals to run the streets because they are being bribed - don't sit there are write that this was justified because of the reasoning they gave. It is undeveloped laws applied in undeveloped ways by unqualified and ignorant officials.
Hahahahahahaha! You're comparing that Shithole with Central Park???
The place is a dump and therefore it doesn't matter if people build to survive
The end of all 2nd party wastrels. 👏🏼

Goes for the whole of Africa tbh
Colonialists came, saw a space, built a shop.
Africans are the same, we have the space, people built homes and shacks closer to the city etc. but these are temp buildings because they are rural people who come for seasonal work in the city or to find opportunities.
Africa really isn't built up - we have ENOUGH space to build, this is why you don't see any skyscrapers
ilgal strukchoz
It has been maakked
this is the most Hillarious shit
I thought I saw Akon like 50 times
lmao
REMINDER: this is one of Africa's more prosperous countries.
You really are Koula dexter.
“Prosperous” is a stretch but yes it has a Africa’s largest GDP and a relatively “stable” “democracy” compared to some of its neighbours but honestly that’s not saying much at all. It’s like having the nicest house in the ghetto .
I watched this video on BBC iPlayer and it was first shown in 2010. 8 years ago. I am a Nigerian and visit Lagos. I do not recognise any of this places shown. This video is all packaged to show the roughest part of Lagos which is less than 20% of Lagos. Just to shape the mind of foreigners about what they want them to know about Nigeria
BS, Lagos and Nigeria hasn't change. Just take a look at the politicians...
What's with the reuploads?
john son of Morris they want everybody to think all this is still real in Lagos
@@oluwaseunolawale2213 it is.
Now this is how you spend tax payers dollars! Seriously.

Igbo shop owners dont reason. They dont obey the law. They do the same things in Rivers state .
Oo yes looks much nicer .. smh
They have the exact same attitude to taxi's all over the world..wake up one morning..yea let's drive a taxi..lol

Want to lose your faith in humanity? Visit Lagos
Absolute corrupt tyrants. And the Nigerian people suffer from these clowns.
good work man for exposing such cruelty...well the USA seems to be in countries affairs why aren't they improving that country....and they felt kadafi had to DIE ...WHERE ISCAMERICA NOW.....beacuse THERES NO OIL
Lagos has a lot of oil. The largest oil field in Africa.
A good politician should have real world experience. What do u say Louis
Whats the average IQ in Lagos? 🤔
Didn’t know the Democratic Party wore green shirts 🤷♀️🤷♀️🤷♀️
africa is like a sore, that is never allowed to heal. every time a scab forms, someone picks it off, revealing the red sore underneath, over & over it goes on.
And over here in the west you have posh never worked a day in their lives University students telling you they're oppressed 😂
That's takes a long long time to build and set up, why they didn't stop them before they build,or fence it , what is the big deal anyway, those poor people just trying to survive, shame on their government
