- A quick flight in the TBM 850 from Bendigo to Shepperton, north of Melbourne in Australia in Microsoft Flight Simulator. The primary purpose for the trip is to showcase both airfields - available from Orbx - but along the way we experience a total failure of the Garmin GNS 530 (a known bug in the sim at the moment), which creates it's own challenges and the need to revert to RNAV to get to Shepperton! Enjoy :) (also - I need to read up on ADF in the 850)

Note - I researched the broken GNS 530 after the flight - confirmed it is broken at the moment in the Black Square support forum (since the last flight simulator update). It's discussed here - community.justflight.com/topic/5743/autopilot-after-sim-update-14/46
Two things that maybe some aren't aware of. The pulse feature of the landing lights not only makes you more visible, but it also is very upsetting to birds; thus discouraging them from hanging around a runway/taxiway. 2nd, the inertial sep is also protection from bird strikes, and is usually turned off after reaching a reasonably safe altitude free of bird activity in immediate vicinity of airport.
my local airport - what a coincidence! very accurate modelling and they claim that they will add the new terminal soon. great video 👍
Thank you Jonathan for another very pleasant flight in the country that I spent a great deal of my life. Unfortunately, I never managed to get down to Victoria but, I met a lot of people who had moved from Melbourne to the Gold Coast chasing the sunshine and getting away from the cold and rainy weather down south. After getting back to the roost, I regularly visit my favorite stomping ground by MSFS and look at the places I never had the opportunity to see while I was there. Too busy living, I guess. The flight simulation is an amazing technology that enables us to visit almost any part of the world providing unbelievable, almost true to life, modeling of the scenery. After watching your recent videos, I have started to favor the smaller planes instead of the airliners because they provide a better opportunity to enjoy the scenery. It's good to mix them up a bit. Thanks again for sharing your experience with us.
G'day, my home airport, 200 odd flights from there. Thanks for the video. Hanger doors open and close.
Greetings from Melbourne 🇦🇺 😊
I had the same problem the day before yesterday. I thought it was something I had done wrong. Was also first TBM 850 flight in ACARS and as a newbie, wondered if that had something to do with it. Comforting to hear that it wasn’t me! I didn’t think to change the avionics system.
Nice ! I used to live in Bendigo :)
For more speed the flaps go up an extra notch which activates 850 Mode and give you another 150SHP.
One of my favorite planes and currently my favorite Black Square model. But I experience severe frame rate drop when it loads in making it unusable. It doesn't happen every time but it forces me to return to the main menu and try again. Today, my GTN750 would not work. The one inside did but not from the pulldown menu. I like using dual GTN750s. It took three tries to get it to work; Closing it and reopening it. Very frustrating.
Hey Johnathan I fly the TBM 850 regularly and I will say that I’ve had no problems navigating with the TDS gtn 750 also during your flight you could have used 850 mode to access up to 121% torque on the engine. If your ever interested in flying on pilot edge or vatsim (I’d recommend you try pilot edge as it’s much better experience for a streamer) the tbm 850 is my recommendation I’ve learned a lot flying online with this aircraft and your fast enough to actually go places if that makes sense.
Try frequency swap for the NDB
Airport modelling is excellent !
Your graphics performance always seem so smooth have you published a settings video? My set up is similar to yours hardware wise but never seems as smooth. what is your secret lol😊
Not sure. I have switched off AI aircraft recently - they cause massive stutters when they are loading.
Hi, I had similar problems with the 850 and the King Air 350 from Black Square, the autopilot stoped working. Look at Les O'Reilly latest video, he shows how to fix it with the Caravan, until the next update for each plane. I haven't tested it my self, but just make sure to backup the file before.
There's a file that Black Square are distributing - but they are loathe to release the plane again. It's a problem with the working title GNS 530 apparently.
Seriously the airport cars look like mud pies, terrible year 2001 quality building graphics. Why do you bother cobber? Can't you see we are 20 years away from 1 TB RAM and CPU/GPU's capable of a really decent flight sim????? @@jonbeckett
lol what’s funny is every single video u post it always starts with “let’s turn the battery on” very important in an airplane
Also if someone could help I play on Xbox one how do I add turbulence? I can put a wind layer but that’s only at certain altitudes. Is there a random wind mode lol
You can choose weather (flight conditions) from the world map screen. The realism settings also influence it.
I am so sorry to post this query here. I started a monthly donation some time ago for a small amount and find I have to undo any of those I've done. I have no idea where to go to recover an account and / or password. I have a monthly amount of around $6 being changed. I go so much out of your videos in the past. Can someone point me to where I can go to recover an account?
Where did you setup the subscription ? Was it at ko-fi? Or substack? Or TH-cam itself?
Email me your details - your email address etc - send them to jonbeckett@outlook.com and I'll see what I can find out for you.
