  • I am pleased to show off my prized collection of fashion and historic themed dolls I have collected, mostly over the last eight months.
*I said Walmart a few times when I meant Amazon. At Fashionistas 201 and 121; also my Signature Looks Ken, I got from Amazon.

I love that you said that you overcame your fear of buying dolls, despite being a mom. When I was a kid 1 million years ago. My family thought it was strange that I was so into Barbies. They often made me feel bad and guilty about this. So I had a lot of shame in collecting my dolls. So after I had my son, I said to myself, let’s be more grown-up, and let’s get rid of all of our dolls. so I did, and deeply regretted it. When my little boy went off to college in 2017 I had both loneliness and freedom. So little by little I begin to collect them again. Enter 2020. And I began to collect them big time. I started taking them out of the boxes and putting them on made to move bodies. I now Make designer clothing for them and dioramas. I have been having the time of my life. However, I still feel episodes of extreme guilt and shame about this. I think you’re fantastic. Keep doing what you’re doing.❤❤

Thanks so much, your comment brought tears to my eyes. My Mom told me I wasn't allowed to buy any more Barbies, even with my own money, when I was 14. At 15 they were packed away in the basement, and once in a while, I'd go down there to visit them, one time, taking one last family photo. Unfortunately the photo turned out blurry. In 1994, at 20, I secretly bought German Barbie new off the shelf with my best friend, who bought Baywatch Barbie, likewise in secret, and we hid them from our parents. I thought I had done that at 16, so it's sad that I still felt so much shame about it at 20. Having a child, brought toys, and Barbies, back to mind. Visiting the toy section for my son I saw the incredible Barbies that were coming out in the early naughties. And there was that feeling, "Silly Rabbit! Toys are for kids!" I found a way around it by making historic Barbie clothes to sell in my costume business, and of course needed a Barbie with the new figure for the fit! I was super curious. I bought an AA ballerina who I names Martha after Doctor Who`s companion. She's gone now. I saw a Fashion Fever Drew in Value Village for $6, a couple years later, and boldly bought her too, for no other reason than that she was cool, and she was cheap. Regrettably I gave her away in a big purge in 2015. But I still have my awesome Top Model Teresa. Even in my darkest moments, I would never give her away. Barbie dolls are really awesome little figures, and hold many cherished memories and fantasies. Many thanks to the movie for bringing them back. I cried when I came out of the film. I'm glad you and I both got over our embarrassment, and took grasp of our rights! There's a lot of Barbie lovers out there. Of course not everyone will understand and that's ok. I look at and enjoy my collection every day. I had two chimney sweeps in my house recently, and one of them really admired my collection. He said it was wonderful. ☺ That's awesome you make clothes and dioramas. My Eleanor is currently cozily curled up on her couch, shoes off, book on the floor. Much love friend. 💖✨💗

@@michaelwood4661 Sounds fun! I had a Cabbage Patch kid as a child, and the pink Barbie corvette. That's great she's, like me, exploring this side of herself. : )

@@michaelwood4661 The inspiring women dolls are awesome! I want the Celia Cruz doll. The Ida Wells has a really nice dress! I like her backdrop too. I was considering getting Florence Nightingale, but I also like the Rebecca Welton doll. I did buy Eleanor Roosevelt, but didn't meld with her and sent her back. Plus the box was not new. The choosing is half the fun!

I’m wanting to get into Barbie collecting and I’m 18 years old, may I ask what age did you start and why? Do people judge you, I’m afraid of that.

I bought my last Barbie in my youth at age 20 in secret with my best friend. I didn't buy any as a teenager. My Mom forbade me at age 14. There's nothing wrong with it though. There's Barbies that are meant for 14 and up. I continued to admire the Barbies on the shelf longingly for a further year, then it became uncool, and other kids spoke disparagingly of them. Then the Heart Family came out and that threw me right off. I didn't like them at all. I bought my next Barbie at age 32, "only for a model for doll clothes making for my business" was the excuse, but really, I was purely just dying to see the new figure put out in the early 2000's. I bought two more openly, for myself, in my 30's, one thrifted, and one new off the shelf. But I only started my current collection last year after the movie, at age 49, because I was so profoundly affected by the film, and because my mom had imposed an artificial stop to my collecting at age 14. Nobody judges me. Then again, I never have anyone in my house. The only people who've seen my collection in person are my daughter, who supports my hobby, and the chimney sweeps, who said it's artistic and marvelous. I openly tell people I collect Barbies, when they ask what my interests are. But for you, at your age, I'd be careful who you tell. Your true friends though will think it's awesome. If your friends don't support you, they aren't very good friends, and there's someone else who will think it's awesome. Someone gave me the advice at the beginning, "buy what you love". I pass that wisdom on to you. If you love it, buy it, and treat yourself, be authentic to yourself, explore what makes up you. Just don't tell everyone everything about yourself, particularly while you are discovering yourself. Some things are precious. ❤☺
