    Lots of good info i think for diy'ers. But could you make a detailed video of reducing valve shrouding on vortec heads please and thank you.

    Super excited about this shootout. Some of your older videos lead me to us the vortec heads on my last build and I was very impressed by the power I got. Junkyard gold

      Hey that's amazing, really glad to hear that!
      There seems to be some guys that are still skeptical and hating on the vortecs so maybe the flow date will change some minds? haha

    If you pick up used vortec heads at the wrecking yard or a swap meet. Look for cracks on the head gasket mating surface between the bolt holes and water jackets. Recently I was looking for some cores to rebuild for my 4.3L V6,97 vortec. Basically they're the same as the V8 heads. I took the heads off 2 engines to find 2 good heads with no cracked water jackets and no cracked/ badly pitted valve seats area. Machinist still managed to find a crack that I missed. He was able to repair it by hogging out the valve seat area and pressing in a new seat. I bought a pair of rebuilt vortec heads on Ebay about 2-3 years ago. They both had crack repairs. They only lasted about 20k before I had to add stop leak to the radiator. I hate that stuff,clogged up my heater core. Luckily after I replaced my heads,I was able to back flush it with a hose and the heater works fine now. The heater core is a B to replace in that truck. Basically the dash would have to come out.

    Can you do a video on polishing and port matching your intake also matching the proper cam ,cam lift duration and lobe separation to match the 906 vortec head with 202 160 valves oh and selecting the proper carb set up cfms and what not and if you have time add in the proper ignition . My 358 4 bolt is ok but I seem to be stuck at 435 hp im wondering if I'm missing something

    This is going to be awesome! Very excited to see the results. I remember a Magazine article where Joe Mondello took a stab at porting vortec heads and he got basically no improvement. If we see north of 250 cfm at .500 on any of them I will be impressed.

    • @cuttersperformance
      @cuttersperformance  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I will be quite happy with 250 cfm on the vortecs but we shall see!
      Whos going to laugh if the Chinese heads take the win? Haha

  • @chrisreynolds6520
    @chrisreynolds6520 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    With a little cleanup work and decent valve job those Amazon 200cc heads flowed 265 cfm @ 0.600. Mine were assault racing and dual drilled for Vortec bolt holes. After Lloyd Elliot ported them they hit 299 cfm.

      @@cuttersperformanceif I was gonna wager, I'd put my money on The Darts taking top spot. Full port stocks 2nd. The rest is a toss up.... but I dont underestimate the Chinese heads. Ran a set on a in my 91 c1500 and for the money they were pretty decent. Running the summit dart clones now. Tbh not much difference performance wise imo. The summits are thick and beefy though and I dont obsessively stare at my temp gauge near as much 😏

  • @Hobo-Henry
    @Hobo-Henry 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    This should be interesting, I’ve seen some work with bowl blending helping top end flow numbers but killing a bit of low flow numbers. But I guess that’s normal

    • @cuttersperformance
      @cuttersperformance  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      With porting you can lose some velocity and that becomes evident in the lower lift numbers but im hoping to gain up top and still have a strong mid lift cfm
      We shall see! Proof is in the #s

    while i have zero interest in anything from china, i am most interested in Edelbrock Etec 170 heads. would be interested to see the stock flow compaired to stock vortec head and with each ported. I have read that the Etecs actually flow equal to or worse than stock vortec head which is hard to believe that a company would plow so much time, energy and money in to a product and gain nothing. i find it very hard to believe that Edelbrock does NOT offer a cnc ported version of the Etec head.
