Ah, 1998 and the “Tennessee Oilers.” That weird in-between time in the transition from Houston Oilers to Tennessee Titans, lol. This was the first NFL season that I have some clear memory of…I would have been 10/11 years old. Man this makes me feel old. This footage looks more like early ‘90s than late ‘90s, haha
Thank you for calling this out. The Tennessee Oilers is just such a bizarre science experiment gone wrong hybrid between two totally independent eras of the same franchise.
The only reason they changed their look is because they didn't have much success on the field. Now that they won a Superbowl with the Navy and lime green they probably will stick with that look for a long time. Hell, Seattle never even wears throwback uniforms so the team management must really hate the silver, royal blue, and Kelly green.
@@ryanjacobson2508 The NFL has a rule about one color helmet (it's a stupid rule btw...college teams wear multiple helmets so no reason NFL couldn't) so even if they wanted to wear silver they couldn't
Yeah I remember when he was considered a veteran when he QB'ed for Cincinnati, Detroit then Dallas. The guy got around. I always thought he could have been better.
The Seattle (still silver helmeted) Seahawks vs the (used to be Houston) Tennessee Oilers. Two relics lost to time. Speaking of Houston, they lost their team and got one back in 6 years and Cleveland only had to wait 4 years to get their team back but us suckers in LA lost 2 teams and had to wait over 20 fucking years for a return. What a world we live in.
It's pretty fucking simple. Houston and Cleveland were desperate so they forked over hundreds and hundreds of millions of dollars in public funds, most in bonds that have to be paid back with interest, to build stadiums for billionaire team owners. The stadium in Los Angeles was 100% privately funded. LA isn't the sucker. It's no coincidence that the only two NFL cities with 100% privately funded stadiums are New York and LA. They have the clout to say "fuck you, pay for your own stadium".
Love the unis but hate the logo. The bird looks weird like its squinting or has bags or something. These unis and colors with the new logo with the old colors would be awesome. Theyre ready for an update anyway, their current unis were so radical at the time but now they look kinda dated. Very 2012
An excellent lesson in the perception of time. 33 seconds for the Oiler's fans is like 33 years. And the Seahawk's fans experience it as 33 nanoseconds.
7:30 I've been seeing coaches being able to call the time out for a LONG time now, to the point where I can't remember when it was required that an on the field player had to call it. What year did they change it to where coaches could call the time out?
