Once in a while, I like to make a "Day in the Life" video documenting a typical day as someone working in the finance industry. In this video, I show what its like working from home at a hedge fund as a risk analyst, from how I spend my work day, to my routines and habits. Let me know if you enjoyed the video and want to see some similar ones in the future!

Quick tip: Make the eggs on lower heat for a little longer, they taste much better then, not being so dry.
Ain't no one got time for that
Appreciate that tip man, will try it out!
😂
I always do it in lower heat too.
I used to go low and slow until I saw the wok method. changed my life, high and fast maximum 10 seconds tasty, not dry and much faster.
Podcast Recommendations:
- Exchanges at Goldman Sachs: In case you've somehow missed it
- The Memo by Howard Marks: For a theory focused macro perspective
- FICC Focus by Bloomberg: Normal people, hard facts
- Occupy a Job on Wall Street: A little bit of comedy, a little bit of blasphemy, a lot of great stories
- Washington Welcomes: David Rubenstein's Economic Club of Washington DC videos in podcast format (getting to know industry leaders)
Wow these are great - I've heard a lot of mentions about The Memo. Will definitely have to check these out. Thanks!
I wholeheartedly endorse Michael Hugh Terpin as a crypto fiduciary par excellence. His unparalleled expertise, unwavering integrity, and steadfast commitment to ethical principles make him a trusted advisor and an invaluable asset to the cryptocurrency community. It is an honor and privilege to provide this testimony in recognition of Mr. Terpin's exemplary contributions to the industry.
This is precisely why I like having a portfolio coach guide my day-to-day market decisions: with their extensive knowledge of going long and short at the same time, using risk for its asymmetrical upside and laying it off as a hedge against the inevitable downward turns, their skillset makes it nearly impossible for them to underperform. I've been utilizing *Michael Hugh Terpin* as a portfolio coach for more than two years, and I've made over $800,000.
I realized that the secret to making a million is saving for a better investment. I always tell myself you don't need that new Maserati or that vacation just yet. That mindset helped me make more money investing. For example last year I invested 80k in trading with *Michael Hugh Terpin* and made about 246k, but guess what? I put it all back and traded again and now I'm rounding up close to a million.

Highly appreciative of the effort man. Keep posting!🙌
Appreciate your support man!
this was really good bro! just found your channel today, so gonna binge all of your videos! odd lots podcast is great.
two I would recommend to you are "flirting with models" brief overview: show aims to pull back the curtain and meet the investors who research, design, develop, and manage quantitative investment strategies.
and lastly, "throwing fits" (my personal favorite) podcast about men's fashion
Appreciate the recommendations man! God knows I need some fashion advice 😅
Great stuff!! I love the intentionality in your daily life
Thank you bro 🙏 I try my best
Love to see your content ❤❤❤
Inspired from you
WOW, the editing is fire. Thank you for the video !!! ❤️❤️❤️
Thank you! 🙏
Good stuff, very interesting and informative videos you share, this is why trading is only profitable when you have proper guidance like mine
Theresa option
Seen some good reviews on her , how do I connect
She’s mostly on telegaram with the name
Nice to see this here, theresa Options’s understanding of market indicators is impressive. her knows exactly when to enter and exit trades for maximum profit. Her signals are top notch
She is a CFA whose approach combines technical and fundamentally essential analysis, and her system has been the key to my financial success.
this editing is amazing you deserve way more subscribers. Thanks for the video!
I appreciate it man, glad you enjoyed!
As a podcast I would recommend Business breakdowns, pretty interesting, it explains the business model of the biggest firms of the planet
It's great to see you making most of your own meals, healthy meals -- vs eating out all the time, like a lot of people do. And staying active. I'm 25+ years into my private banking career, and believe me, those habits pay off.
Thanks! I'm trying my best haha
Kind of my inspiration brother,, 💖💖
🙏🙏
What sorts of trades are generally preferable..? margin used 15x?... Capital?.. annual ROI?
I appreciate the library shot! Quite a few of those books look familiar..
Yessir! Have most of the classics but still adding to the library haha
Bro your alarm and the blue lights from your setup are unreal !! Do you mind telling me where you got them from if that’s okay brother ?
Thank you bro! I got them off of Amazon - the alarm is an Amazon Echo: amzn.to/48133xR and the lights are generic cabinet LED lights: amzn.to/3HHPMQ8
Interesting channel Aaron!
found new leader in finance thanks for teaching never had access to education like this
Thank you! I'm happy to help
Solid video mate and appreciate your honesty at the start!Nevertheless very insightful about your role! Qn-what would you learn now if you were still in college?
Thank you! And I would honestly probably still study finance although I would definitely try to learn some computer science and coding as well.
Thank you for this. ✨
Pretty similar career and lifestyle to you! Was wondering if you've considered pursuing the CFA as a means of growth in the buyside. I feel it's pretty good to have if you're gunning to be an HF PM in the future. Also, love listening to Huberman and physiology podcasts as a change of pace from just industry / finance lol.
I have considered it but currently not pursuing one due to the huge time commitment. Surprisingly, not many people I've encountered throughout my career have a CFA and I think the stats show ~5% have CFAs across the industry. I've heard a lot of good things about Huberman, will definitely have to check him out!
Homie's got the breville machine. This dude is generating alpha.
Haha appreciate it bro, maybe in my PA
great video! quick question if I'm retail trader, good knowledge on financial market and I have a track record of almost 2 years, can I apply to a hedge fund ? and if there's a conditions like over 55% win rate etc
that’s some really nice content man. Just subscribed
I appreciate it man!
if you are in hedge fund will you be able to buy certain stock that the company is doing its deal on?
can you reply me a link for that guitar piece played in final section of this video
Man you said about coding what kind of languages do you use and what kind of skills do I need to be like you in terms of coding side.
whats up Aaron!! sick update can't wait for the africa video
Hey Shori! Hope you’re doing well!
what sorts of KPIs are used to evaluate your work?
That's awesome. How to start working in hedge fund. How to step by step. What requrements and qualifications to get into it.
I have some other videos on my channel describing some tips to get into the industry. Also have a video coming out outlining my personal journey so stay tuned!
Awesome video man - great editing. Subscribed! You gonna drop that Africa video tho 👀
Thanks man, appreciate the sub! And currently still working on condensing that one for TH-cam haha
Which programming language do you use the most
And which would you recommend I should learn?
I currently am in final year of college and a cl2 candidate- does the industry really view cfa the way the institute markets it - gold standard
What kind of camera are you using Aaron?
I am a CPA (Tax) looking to transition in to the finance sector. Specifically as a HF analyst. Any advice on how I could get my foot in the door?
Great video mate.
What book were you reading?
Thanks man! And the book is The Changing World Order: Why Nations Succeed and Fail by Ray Dalio.
wow great video! Do they teach you Technical Analysis in college? or do you have to learn it by yourself by observing others while you work at the Hedge Fund?
The latter - never once came across the idea of technical analysis in college but some portfolio managers will incorporate it into their trade decisions.
Hi Aaron, I'm soon to graduate from my MSF program and am looking into potential jobs. Do you have any recommendations?
Hello. Please tell me how you can very quickly agree on a 50 billion M&A program with an employee or trainee of an investment bank?
What kind of monitor do you have and you should do a full setup tour in a future video
Its a Dell monitor, I forget the exact model. Good video idea though, will keep that in mind!
quick question what are type of skills do i need to be a hedge fund analyst
I will be forever grateful to you, you changed my entire life and I will continue to preach on your behalf for the whole world to hear you saved me from huge financial debt with just a small investment, thank you Claudia Jenkins.
Wow. I'm a bit perplexed seeing her been mentioned here also Didn’t know she has been good to so many people too this is wonderful, i'm in my fifth trade with her and it has been super.
The very first time we tried, we invested $1400 and after a week, we received $5230. That really helped us a lot to pay up our bills.
Jenkins' expertise in customizing investment portfolios based on changing market conditions and personal risk profiles is exceptional. It's not a one-size-fits-all approach, which is crucial in crypto investing.
You trade with Claudia Jenkins too? Wow that woman has been a blessing to me and my family.
I'm new at this, please how can I reach her?

Gotta respect the plug, I’ll check it out!
What PC and keyboard/mouse is that?
There are methods trade stocks that are undisclosed. I never knew who I was trading for. But it was in a room NH. I would check in and trade. Easy money.
Can You explain the future of hedge funds as industry please?
Are there freelance Hedge Fund Analyst or Hedge Fund managers?
is there an alternative to top news for retail? I wish there was something I could pull up that shows the top 5 things that are impacting markets at the start of a day.
I've found Seeking Alpha's Wall St Breakfast newsletter to be pretty good!
What occurs in a daily risk email? Is it meant as overview of overall portfolio risk changes though after hours trading?
It's essentially a daily email I send alerting PMs with some important pieces of information regarding the products/instruments they're trading like futures spot dates, rule changes by exchanges, things like that. More to do with operational risks than market risks in this case.
Thank you for the clarification.
Hi mate! I admire your career. I'm starting a major in finance and I'd love to work in a hedge fund. Any tip? Thanks for inspiring!
1) Apply to internships early 2) check out some of my other videos!
How’s the seasonality like? Looks like you work a standard 9-5?
Pretty consistent hrs throughout the year, 50 hrs a week on average.
Hey guys i‘ve few questions. If I am pursuing a career in audit or risk management…should I study accounting or banking & finance?
Audit -> accounting; risk management -> finance
Against the Gods is a great book. I read some of it a couple years back. Good choice
Interesting you look at Seeking Alpha. Do you follow certain individuals who you feel offer some credibility or just random articles?
Not particularly - I mostly take the articles at face value and then do research myself to confirm. It helps to read through a few articles just to see what the common themes are though.
Is like coding a necessary skill in todays era if you want to work in a hedge fund? I am looking for non coding roles.
Not "necessary" but highly recommended.
quick queston aaron im majoring in computer science, do you think a bachelors degree in C.S could get me into the hedge fund analyst doorstep? or what degrees are best for the position?
I think it would help if you have a dual major or minor in finance or economics unless you’re applying for a technology or quant trading role that is more coding focused. It depends though, if you network well or have finance related items on your resume, you could make it work since CS is becoming a more and more sought after skill in finance.
@@aaron_yaoI was thinking about finishing a tech related major and then getting a CFA in a few years. Then, I would apply for a finance job in US (already involve with finance in Brazil). What are your thoughts about that? Thanks for sharing your experience.
What programming language are using to do the stress test ?
I was actually programming a different tool. Stress tests are calculated using the fund's in-house methods and with 3rd party risk management software.
@aaron_yao you mind telling what that third party software is? Were you a programmer by nature that decides to pursue MBA ?
can you do a video about market manipulation please? can you also give us more education about your skills
New subscribers here! Nice video
Thank you and welcome!
Where can I find the desktop wallpaper. This is a serious question
Lookup Starship wallpaper 4k!
Is Stats + Econ a good major to get into HF if so what type of role I am likely to get? BTw what type of HF do you work at Commodity,Fixed Income MultiStrat?
Yes. Math degree or math and finance or math and economics etc
Yeah that's a good combo. Could be any role really, it all depends on what you're interested in and how you market yourself.
Any recommendations on substack writers?
Here's a few off the top of my head: Aswath Damodaran, Brent Donnelly, Florian Kronawitter - latter two are more macro focused.
where can i get an alarm clock like that?
It's the Echo dot on Amazon!
That’s such a cool alarm! What is it called?
Its the Amazon Echo!
hey bro my dream is to become a hedge fund manager im aiming for mba in finance ,cpa and cpa and a bachelors degree in commerce after all these am i eligible to become hedge fund manager
Hey Yao, can you please give a list of the most on your shelf please.
That would be a long list haha - I'm making a tour of my office setup video though so I might go through some in that video!
Shake your espresso 😊 to make Freddo espresso, worth it.
20 ema cross is the bases of the algorithm for the hedge funds ik that
i work at a hedge fund as well if u really work at a hedge fund tell me which EMA is most powerful that all hedge funds use and i’ll beleive u
music just hasn't been that good lately, you're right. That's what happens when society tries to use one botched scale forever, despite having the ability to do better. Music theory will change within the next few years, and music will be better.
sounds more middle-office. nonetheless 9-5 sounds pretty sweet.
How do you get into a hedge fund??
I badly do wanna

Daily inspiration 😤
what trading do you use? forex?
I am actually don’t trade myself, I help to analyze and manage the risk of portfolio managers. However, the traders will usually use Bloomberg or the prime broker’s trading platforms usually.
The Bear reminds me that there are jobs more stressful than mine lol. It is a very intense show
Yes exactly haha
im a software engineer looking to join a hf as an analyst. what would you do next?
To clarify, are you trying to join as a developer or as an actual analyst on the investment side?
@@aaron_yao as a dev! though i eventually want to do some investing in companies having lived the startup life.
8:32 what book were you reading??
Principles for Dealing with the Changing World Order by Ray Dalio
Does displaying your life on social media negatively affect your business life? especially in job interviews. I am also thinking of opening such a channel. But I don't want it to have a negative impact on a place like Wall Street.
That's something I worried a lot about at first too but still no negative ramifications so far. In fact, people I worked with found my channel and they loved it so as long as you're not posting something too controversial or along those lines, you should be fine!
No crease in ANY of the book bindings. Hmmmm.
Hello. What is the name of the book you had opened just before you went to bed in the video?
Principles for Dealing With the Changing World Order by Ray Dalio
Hey Aaron, I am seeking to launch my own hedge fund. I have achieved 29% returns over 13 years on avg. I am looking for someone to assess the risk on my model. Is there any way you can do this? Please let me know.
That's great dude
You should use the Sharpe ratio and compare it to the Sharpe of the S&P. Throw all your monthly returns and S&P monthly returns into a spreadsheet, find the mean and standard deviation of each. Then do (mean return - risk free rate) / standard deviation of returns to get the Sharpe ratio
How is your work life balance like?
Really good! Around 50 hours a week, sometimes I’ll take on some extra projects to further my learning but I really can’t complain.
subbed at 4.92k subs LFG
Got in at the ground floor 😤
lets goo! 4.9k is insane too though. @@aaron_yao
What major are you studying?
I studied finance in college!
Can you tell us the name of the hedge fund you’re working for?
🤔
Unfortunately, I don't want to actively divulge any information about my employer for the sake of keeping my work and personal endeavors separate. Hope that's understandable!
was that an alexa in the beginning?
nvm lol answered my own question. A better question- how important do you think coding is for the finance industry? I'd like to work in the markets as some kind of analyst and honestly don't know a lick of code. I studied some super basic python a while back but i've already forgotten most of it. I can tell it'd take some fairly serious dedication, which I'm not afraid of, but on top of school it could get hectic. I know I'm gonna have to dedicate a good 2 semesters worth towards mastering excel, etc. How much extra value do you think a solid knowledge of python/another language would add? Thanks so much
How much bloomberg sub? Thanks❤
A lot haha - I'm not exactly sure since I don't pay for it but I believe $20-$25k per year.
@@aaron_yao thanks boss❤️
