Ben, love these videos. For the responsibilities you’ve outlined, could you highlight some tools that the average retail investor has at their disposal to gain an edge? Not looking to replicate 100% of what is done at a typical hedge fund, but to understand what I could be doing to improve my DD in my daily trades.
Hey Rareliquid, could you make a video about the best places to start a career in Private Equity? I'm currently considering Zurich. Do you have any real-world insights on where this industry offers the best opportunities to pursue a career?
Very good and informative video. I want to ask you, what's the time horizon on average for any investment idea ? Also do you trade around the core position of a stock (I know it's the role of the PM with the trader). Another question, does it happen for you to take a position in a stock for few weeks to couple month to "play" earnings momentum for the one to 3 next quarters ?
Question; do these hedge funds look for people coming from the top universities? I got accepted with JP Morgan for portfolio management internship next summer. What’s the best tips to get into the citadel, Morgan Stanley, etc..
Thank you for this 🙏, I've been waiting for an insightful video on a day in the life of a hedge fund analyst. Will you being doing any future videos on how to break into the HF industry? Such as relevant work experience, qualifications required (whether academic or professional), networking opportunities etc
hey, i want to get into finance as i enjoy looking at market trends and love math and programming. The main thing i would want if i were to work in finance is to have a job that revolves around programming or math-related work. From what I've found online, from the 3 buy-side types of firms, Quantitative Hedge Funds are the most grounded in fields like stochastic calculus and machine learning. Is this true? and would a "day in the life' of a quantitative HF analyst look different to this L/S hedge fund?
Abuu Petyerra: “people seek wealth and then end up living in the simplicity of nature; I live this simplicity right from the start, which is true wealth”. Ilela Antonia Garés: “at certain levels, man’s success is based on wealth. Ben, I am going to select my bachelor's degree, and I want to know that clearly, What is the best degree to get into investment banking? I mean, what kind of major has a better opportunity than others to get into investment banking? Is it a bachelor's degree in finance or economics or STEM degrees? Someone says STEM degrees have a better opportunity. Someone says finance degree has a better opportunity Stuff like that. I want to know that clearly I want to work at investment banking division at Wall Street Investment Bank. So, what is the best major to do?
I highly suggest gender studies. You will definitely be an out of the box candidate and u can use this to ur advantage. great for IB and Gender studies and M&A have a lot in common. Thanks!
Finance or Econ. Depends on where you spend your time outside really. Finance has an edge for sure, maybe take some economics electives if you have the time
That's why there's 0 chart reader or TA hedge fund in the top 100 investment firms :) Actually using TA and charts in the trading /investment decision is the major factor for underperforming the index (timing is usless by reading charts)
1st year base salary in nyc will be around 100-120k and a bonus of $50k - $75k. If u work outside of nyc it will likely be around 5 to 10 percent less.
If you building your financial model with z score i do to, im building a forex model with z score and then the model have to be correlated with the instrument and then forecast the pair with linear regression 🎉. Hahaha i know all your secrets, i know a youtuber that he have a model that is correlated with 90% with WTI and 95% with S&P500 and gold with maybe 50% to 60% so powerful 💪, i gained all my knowledge from him🙏

Well fucking done, Ben Kim

Maths and finance major is good. Or Engineering major like electrical engineering with minor in economics/finance. Above is a clown.
Finance or Econ. Depends on where you spend your time outside really. Finance has an edge for sure, maybe take some economics electives if you have the time
I'd go for a BS in Financial Engineering
The reality is, you need a mix of economics, finance and accounting.
Why is the worst day, the day where you do your job the most?
More stressful, more hours. This is pretty obvious

why don't just buy val ETF stock call it quits?
Because you have to sell up your firm and make it a luxury good. The real answer is they might want lower vol with the same returns
