I miss the 80s and 90s so much. The lack of tech is great, the fact that people are not taking selfies, dancing in one spot taking up a huge area of real estate. People being kind and respectful to each other. I feel like I took those days for granted or maybe it's just me missing it so much.
no the 2010s were. In 2019, My gen z and gen alpha friends went to Haysville, PA to capture some NS trains, after capturing an intermodal train, manifest train, and a OCS train with 2 heritage units on it, we went to Wendy's to get 2 baconators for each one of us. We ate all of that under 30 mintues, and then we went to play Roblox on my PC. We played multiple games like "The last person to drown in lava wins" "Murder mystery 2" and a couple of other games. after this, we went to play hide and seek outside. After that, we went BACK to austell ga but not to capture more trains. We needed to find eggs there because we heard that the residents in austell ga placed a lot of eggs that year, and this happened around April. My friend Billy found 8 eggs, I found 47 eggs, my friend Carl found 12 eggs, my friend Stinkhands (the reason he's named that because he doesn't wash his hands or wipe his butt after taking a dump) found 19 eggs. My friend Joseph found 25 eggs, my friend Junior found 3 eggs, my friend Cody found 89 eggs, my friend Andrew found 6 eggs, my friend Jeffy found 34 eggs, and my friend Scooter found 10 eggs. After this, we went new York to visit our other friends, came back to where we lived and did way more stuff together. Best decade ever, can't convince me otherwise.
THESE ARE THE MOVIES PLAYING IN THE THEATER IN THIS VIDEO: 1. Tin Men 2. 84 Charing Cross Road 3. The Mission 4. Hannah and Her Sisters (1987 re-release) 5. A Room with a View (1985 Merchant-Ivory production, Helena Bonham Carter's breakthrough role) 6. The Decline of the American Empire (1986 Canadian comedy directed by Denys Arcand) 7. Hoosiers
Tin Men, starring Danny Devito, Richard Dreyfus, Barbara Hershey, John Mahoney and a whole bunch of other talent is one of the most underrated movies from the 80's. The movie really captured a slice of time in 1960's Baltimore that just pulls you into that era, even somehow successfully weaving in modern music from the Fine Young Cannibals. Masterful work, a must see.

Tbh the world has always been a mess in terms of wars, economics, geopolitics etc, its just in the 80s pre internet we were exposed to it far less than we are now, I’m sure the older generation in the 80s were saying they wished it was the 60s again. But i get what you’re saying, the world seemed like a larger place in the 80s, kids played in the streets more and some of the greatest movies in history were being made in this decade.
I was 17 yrs old, and back then ppl couldn’t wait to go see a movie. High schoolers took the better part of the day getting dressed up, and don’t forget hanging out at the mall. The internet although it benefits us a lot, it also took away from socialization, and back then businesses could thrive. Miss the 80’s so bad, and for many, many things! Thanks for the memories ❤
I was born in 82. I pride myself on being able to help people. Recently, someone called me the last nice person in the world. An exaggeration, but it was nice to hear.
I feel blessed I got to live the 80s. What a fantastic decade. The movies, the music, the TV shows everything was awesome. Those were nobler times, there was a great vibe of camaraderie. I also think the 80s had the best balance between technology and society, there was still a sense of wonder. The 90s weren't bad either, but I do think the downfall started with the internet and in particular social media. AI will make things worse. I too get a little teary eyed remembering those times, the nostalgia can be overwhelming especially remembering moments with people that are no longer with me. If there was such a thing as a time machine, I would gladly go back to the 80s and live the rest of my days there.
omg can u imagine, the people look peaceful, happy, sane, respectful, orderly, professional, the popcorn looks delicious, the pop looks refreshing and all for a reasonable price, go figure, thats when america was america folks and thats the reason why us 80s people love the 80s so much, oh i forgot even the worst movie in 87 was better than any modern movie could ever be, unforntuely all were left with is memories and vintage videos like this, thanks for posting it 👍
Thank you for this. It's the closest we will ever have to a time machine. What a simpler time. No cell phones, social media, everything was new and fresh.
@phoenix71232 Wow, he must've missed the memo that watching old films was a prerequisite for having an opinion. Thanks for the history lesson grandpa. Let's not forget about the good ol' fear of nuclear annihilation every morning. Nothing like starting your day with a dose of existential dread, am I right? I was just 22 years old, and studied abroad in Seville, Spain for an academic year from September 1, 1987 to June 8, 1988. What a time to be alive! The 80s were wonderful.
What I miss most about these times is no one is blankly staring down at a smartphone and completely oblivious to what's going on around them. Everyone was mentally present and living in the moment.
There were phones back then but not like "smartphone" just a regular phone call and texting. But yeah, i just love that people back then are friendly, polite, gentlemen and nice not like today just the fact they are now rude, anti-social, strangers, not very friendly as much you talk face to face to humana today and pretty much how social media(except internet) and ruined EVERYTHING that happens since late 00s and begin mainstream since 10s. I wish i was in late 90s even early 00s........
@@karinadelma there was no texting in the 80's. and cell phones were considered a luxury, i'm assuming. texting was invented in the early 80s, but wasnt used until the late 90s/2000. most people didnt have cell phones until around then, as well. they were commercially made in 1985, but werent a norm until 90s/2000. pagers were the thing.
Instead of looking at my phone, I still had my anxiety back then as a anxious little boy. I don't think alot of you understand why sometimes people look at their phones. It's because some of us have social anxiety. Wtf is the point of living in the moment is we don't feel same. Our phones help us help anxious people feel safe unless we are with others we trust. I get that back then people didn't believe or understand mental illness much but geeze these comments still don't get it. As someone mentioned we didn't have cell phones to text or stare at during the times but if they did have them, they would be doing the same. That's how some people live in the moment because we are different than people like you who are more confident and didn't have get past our traumas. It's hypothetical to say you prefer back then when you all are now using the Internet to communicate with each other. There are purposes for phones instead of just "social media". I don't even use main stream social media. I game and watch stuff on my phone. It's basically a mini computer.
I've gone to the theater twice in the past 4 years (for Dune Part 1 and 2 IMAX). I grew up in this 80s era. Going to movies was fun, it was an event, people were (mostly) considerate, employees were nice. I used to go to 1-2 movies in the theater every week. The moviegoing experience is the exact antithesis of this today: expensive, annoyingly loud, 30 minutes of commercials and/or trailers, inconsiderate jerks on their phones, jaded "bro" employees on their phones who would rather die than assist you. Just a flat out unfun and miserable experience today.
5:59 They really should bring back background movie music in theaters before the trailers and feature presentation starts, I could tell that really got the audience warmed up and excited for the movie to finally start.
We used to go to the movies every Sunday afternoon back then...I remember there being blobs on the screen before the movie, like the inside of a lava lamp.
They dont to that anymore, everything is gone and instead hear annoying crowd noises. Its strange i never remember how music started background noises in theathers.
I was 13-14 in 1987. Spent lots of time at the movie theater and the skating rink. Lots of good memories. To go along with what a lot of other people are saying...I think people were just more present wherever they went. If you got out of the house, you were really out and about and were taking in your surroundings.
The top 10 movies of 1987: 1: “Three Men And A Baby”, 2: “Fatal Attraction”, 3: “Beverly Hills Cop II”, 4: “Good Morning Vietnam”, 5: “Moonstruck”, 6: “The Untouchables”, 7: “The Secret Of My Success”, 8: “Stakeout”, 9: “Lethal Weapon”, 10: “The Witches Of Eastwick”. ❤️❤️
I miss how nicely dressed and respectful most people were back then, I was 21 that year. (EDIT) I should clarify my comment. No one played "The knockout game" back then, I NEVER saw anyone defecate on a public sidewalk back then...etc.
@kris78787 Again, that's literally exactly what the " grumpy old people" said in the 80's. " compared to now, people dressed so much better in the fifties"... And, I wasn't around in the fifties, but I heard all the grumpy old people, in the fifties, were saying " How dare these kids wear blue jeans to school, especially the girls"
I was a kid that year and people were just as rude then as they are now. It just seems like more now because rude people are recorded and uploaded to youtube all the time.
Look at my grandparents generation still rocking and rolling back then. I was 6 years old at this time and I wish I would've had more deeper conversations with people from the Silent and Greatest Generations.

Yeah, it feels like the world ended because this was the best! Why did they change this? The look, everything was working fine. Could this just be good for another 50 years without change?
Now the 1970's was the time when your parents made you dress up to go to the movies. I'll never forget that. It was a hold out from their era. An evening at the theater was a big deal. I witnessed Star Wars also in the theatre opening week in '77.
Mainly looks to be a clan of Jehovah’s Witnesses that came in with folders and books. Pointless to dress up to go to a movie 🍿 theater as people are not the attraction.

1. Tin Men
2. 84 Charing Cross Road
3. The Mission
4. Hannah and Her Sisters (1987 re-release)
5. A Room with a View (1985 Merchant-Ivory production, Helena Bonham Carter's breakthrough role)

Such a pure moment in life we will never get back
I've gone to the theater twice in the past 4 years (for Dune Part 1 and 2 IMAX).

Yep. Paying with cash means no third party businesses or AI programs will know your purchasing patterns.
Love this video, thank you so much for posting! So proud and grateful to have lived the 80's. There's a whole lot to miss. At the same time, it makes me extra grateful for all the breaks we have today that we never dreamed of before. Sure, there aren't any flying cars or hoverboards, but if you told 80's kids back then about how easy this generation can get their hands on whatever movies and music they want, they'd want to fast-forward to where we are now. Human beings are funny that way.
Worked as a ticket seller in a movie theatre one summer when I was a kid. One of the best jobs I've ever had, partly because most people are in a good mood when they go to the movies: very nice vibes all around.
