A retro theater that almost resembles a space ship in areas. Very awesome design and also huge in size ! This location was the first movie theater to close in the USA permanently due to the Pandemic. Enjoy this cinema forever stuck in 2020!
Very cool. My town. I've spent many many hours in that place. My babies saw their first movies there... my heart broke when it closed. Hasn't been the same since
A cool place. AMC opened where I lived in late 2017 they remodeled the theater and put recline chairs in as the movie theater had a few name changes, Rave was the first name from 2006-2012, the Alamo Draft House opened in 2013-2017. As said AMC in Downtown Kazoo did reopen after COVID in Oct of 2020 then closed for good in Dec of 2020, and remained closed for 3 years then reopened now called KP Cinema which is a local movie theater not national brand. Can still see the AMC label scare they finally took it off the second time I saw a movie at KP. AMC wanted to call it AMC Kalamazoo 10 one problem was that Goodrich already had the name since 1997 it's on my side of town I like the reclining chairs at Celebration & KP why I don't go to Kazoo 10. Goodrich was going to sue AMC they went with AMC Portage Road I think AMC Downtown would've been a better name.
its not run of the mill cinema, its an important piece of history. on uruguay we had 1930-1960 cinemas and most are demolished or recycled into something else (like scamming churches) our 90`s cinemas where on shopping malls that every 10 years are upgraded so they do look something like that cinema but updated to 2024 now.

It's actually rather sad. The last day the theater was staffed was when covid was starting. They probably only expected to close for a few weeks and be back at work. I'm guessing everything at that point was closed like any other night so things would be ready to go upon reopening... However that day never came (yet anyway).
I worked here in high school. My favorite job. This theatre was PACKED. I can’t believe out of every theatre this one didn’t make it. A lot of memories here ❤️
Many reasons for that I'm sure. Not sure how AMCs are ran, but some people just felt like it was time to pull the plug on their business, or their part of a franchise, and felt 2020/2021 were time to make a change.
And guessing, when someone decides to close shop that runs a place like this, it was to be AMC that is to come in and deal with the property, but they just haven't? Not sure.
I find it depressing to see places that were once teeming with life and activity but are now abandoned! I had a cinema (and the shopping mall where it's located in) in my home city here in Europe suffer almost the same fate... it's not fully abandoned yet, but almost, with several auditoriums no longer in use for what seems like several years... and what my eyes saw back in the 90s and what my eyes see now are 2 entirely different places: it used to be the biggest and newest cinema in the city, and I watched countless movies there from when I was 15 until my mid 20s, and it was jam packed on the weekend sessions!! But I guess being located in the city center, and the difficulty and/or extra expense in finding car parking nearby, where the newest shopping malls outside the city center that later came on had plenty of free car parking, settled its fate a long time ago...
I used to work at this theater as a supervisor when I was 19-20 years old, brought back a lot of great memories. I spent a lot of time in that place, working till 3am sometimes when we had longer movies playing at midnight.
I used to work here for almost 4 years and worked my way up to manager and left in 2012. I knew every inch of that place. I wonder if the projection door code is the same lol. Lots of random rooms not shown but I assume cause they were locked. That room with the alarm was where the vault was. Oh that imax screen? It was redone and upgraded late 2019/early 2020. Reopened literally the weekend before everything shutdown. So it's barely used.
It was built in 1999. Closed in 2020. Which is what he said. Although he says it closed cause of covid and didn't reopen which wasn't completely true. It reopened but then closed November 2020.

This is my home theater. I grew up seeing movies here and saw many many classics debut here. I was there on it's last days before covid, and during covid. I actually reopened around September and it was playing a mix of new and old releases since there wasn't much of any new movies coming out in theaters. They even revamped that Imax into Imax laser and it was only opened for a few weeks before they closed it. When it reoepned they were showing movies like Tenet and reshowing Alita Battle Angel in Dolby. It officially closed in November with the staff only having a few days notice. There werent many people going to the theater when it reopened, but I did my best to support my home theater. It breaks my heart to see the Dolby stripped, but Im so happy to see the "Changing the way the world sees movies" sign still up and clean. It was one of my favorite things to see whenever I went to that theater. Thank you for preserving it's image and exploring such an important building to me.
@@shrikantmahajan831 It officially closed near the end of 2020 so it wasn’t given the chance for things to be more normal again :( It breaks my heart to this day
@@shrikantmahajan831 the landlord shut the theater down and even the mayor was trying to get the theater reopened but I guess no dice :( There we’re rumors of apartments being built but it’s an extremely inconvenient place for that. It was supposedly recently used to house immigrants for a night or so before being transferred in school busses. Now it’s still sitting there and there’s always a hired security car just sitting there to guard the property. They even smashed glass near the blocks to keep cars and bikes away from the building. I’m pissed about that because there’s geese that live there. It’s awful 😣 I hope it somehow someway reopens again…
Grew up going there as a kid. Recently moved to Florida and it makes me feel relived and all that how well preserved this has been kept. So many good memories in this place. Thank you again for taking me back ❤️
It's fun when guys like you and your friend take risks to allow us to see a recently abandoned AMC theater. It's too bad they won't reopen as it looked like a really nice theater. It's sad that it was once so full of life and laughter.
I'd love to go explore it, but I heard it's patrolled by cops....could always have a meal at the restaurant on the same property to see how often they patrol.
It's really cool that you found this theater still in tact. Almost all abandoned theaters are completely trashed and vandalized. When you guys went back, was that alarm still going off? My guess is that the cameras you saw were still active since everything else seemed to be.
Yes. I was in an abandoned movie theatre. It was a single one with a huge screen. It felt as if there were others in there but I knew I was by myself. I found a projector frame in the projector room. Must have been from the 30s or 40s. It was real heavy. I did smell popcorn in the lobby and I found a 35mm film in the projector room. It was about two feet long and had movie credits on it.
I used to love coming here with my friends and girlfriend. Having an UNOs next door was a bonus. What a perfect evening out as a young adult/teenager. 😢
To me it is somewhat scary to be in an abandoned building, but when you got in that elevator I thought my heart was going to beat out of my chest! I do not like elevators either! Thank you for the tour, I could almost smell the popcorn just seeing the theater.
This was so awesome thanks guys! This is my first video I've watched from your channel and it brought me wayyy back! I live 5 minutes from here and have wanted to explore it ever since it closed down. I went here with my pops in 99 when it first opened to see Star Wars Episode 1. Happy to be a new sub here, and thanks again for risking it all to show us this spot!
Amazing how well preserved it is. I know its only been 4 years, but I've seen so many abandoned malls that have deteriorated badly in that same time frame.
This was my roommates and my theater when we were in college. Lots of great memories of Avengers Infinity War and Endgame opening nights here. It was heartbreaking when we found out it was closing.
It's great to be able to read so many memories associated with this cinema in the comments. It complements the exploration brilliantly, creating a closed whole. Perfect!
Now that everyone knows where this place is & if u go & explore it please don't Vandalize it. So nice to see everything is still in there & not destroyed by kids having fun. It's so sad that so many movie theaters are closing I have 2 by me that closed & are still sitting empty.
AMC 24...that's Hamilton Township, NJ. Not too far away from home for me. Unfortunately this theater joins the long list of closed and abandoned theaters thanks to the God-awful pandemic. Awesome video, dude. Nice to see it hasn't rotted away, but I know it's only been a couple of years.
Thank you for this fantastic tour of the AMC Hamilton 24/IMAX Theaters. The video was fun. When I first read you were going to check this place out, I invisioned the entire place vandalized, spray painted, and absolutely filthy. Surprised me, it looks like they are just about to open everything up. It's so sad that Covid destroyed so much of our day to day lives. We just go on, don't we. But a lot of us will carry the fond memories of going to the movies.
@@DarkExploration Really a shame that people can't respect things while exploring. Glad you guys went there, took some videos and left exactly the way you found it. That's the way urban explorers should be doing.
I went there about 6 years ago. It was weird, there were police officers with semi automatic rifles walking around the theater. I had never seen a police officer in a theater before then, let alone ones with rifles. I spoke to the ticket guy and asked if something happened, he said “not today, but they [the police] are always here.” I never went back.
I used to love this place, my favorite theatre. One time I was on a date with my ex & the guy taking tickets told us “welcome to the most magical place on earth” as we were walking in. Good times RIP Hamilton AMC 24 😢
I've gone to this one so many times when I was younger, and I love watching videos about exploring abandoned places, so seeing a place I used to frequent with friends and family not only be in a youtube video, but in an abandoned one nonetheless, is surreal, sad, but also bittersweet since I have so many fond memories, and am happy to see it living on. Thank you for the amazing video
The lack of any vandalism was an instant give away the location was tightly monitored either by video or motion detectors. Plus, the exterior must be kept in good shape since there is no outside environmental damage from water. I read elsewhere it was closed to due to a lease issue. That's hard to believe, since this is a standalone theater plex, and not a part of a shopping center or mall. So, this location - building, and property - has to be owned by AMC. The pristine condition - after four years - almost makes me wonder if AMC would consider reopening it or sell it to another theater chain. But due to the recent strikes in Hollywood, and another one in August (teamsters) the output of films is a serious problem for chain operators. Hard to operate a theater without any movies. There won't be a lot of films forth coming later in 2024 and in 2025. If the property is being sold off for a possible residential complex, it's hard to believe AMC would spend money to keep the building - inside and outside - in pristine shape.
That alarm you heard was a trouble audible sound from an Ademco/First Alert security panel. It annunciates when there is a Comm. Fail, or Tamper if programmed to not be silent in those situations. Usualy a siren would be going off if you had triggered a secured zone.
Could have just turned on the cleaning lights and you'd be able to see the inside of the auditoriums a lot easier. They usually have timers on them, so there would have been enough time to get footage and then they'd cut off on their own. Also that black scanner that you picked up in the storage room earlier into the video is used to scan AMC Stubs Insider/Premier/A-List memberships so that they earn points when making purchases; nothing fancy. It wasn't used to scan tickets as the young man in the video guessed; it's actually a phone that's used to scan ticket QR codes (only tickets that a customer has saved on their phone or in the app; physical paper tickets are simply torn and dropped in the box and stub is given back to the customer so they can be able to find their auditorium and seat numbers).
I don’t think it will ever pick back up. Between the quality of movies these days and streaming, you’re going to see more abandoned theaters. It’s sad what the pandemic, the quality of films and streaming has done to theaters.
This theater is in a very dangerous location, right outside of Trenton, and has had multiple incidents over the years. The police would routinely patrol inside the theater with rifles. I don’t think amc will want to revive this theater, the liable must have been insanely expensive.
This was my go to theatre growing up besides Destinta in Hamilton that is now a Regal. I loved this place so much. Would go every weekend with my friends, sometimes more than once depending on how many movies came out that week I wanted to watch. The best time! So sad to see it's just an empty space. They need to do something with it.
I was so upset when they closed this theater. My family and I went to this theater for years. It’s still in better shape than some theaters that are still open!
I wish you could have gotten into the projection booths that had projectors I used to be a projectionists along time ago it would have been cool to see what they were using for projectors. Good show.
I was a Projectionist here from 99 onwards, they used Christie lamphouses and Victoria 5 or 8s Projectors...not sure the make of the platter system...was 25 yrs ago...so apologies.
I worked at AMC Deer Valley 16 in Antioch CA. I was there when it closed permanently in the summer of 2019. It happened suddenly, with no explanation. The final days were very sad. I was there as everything was being moved out to be used at other lactations. I took a few of the display movie posters for keepsakes. Watching this video reminded me of how haunting it is to walk through the empty areas that were once filled with the chatter of guests and concessions ambience. The sound of movies playing filling the auditorium corridors and the smell of cheap popcorn. The strange thing about that closure is plans were in place for the building to be renovated.
I live in Brooklyn, NY. When i was a child we had neighborhood theaters. They were the best. So much has changed since the early to mid 80s. The last movie i went to see in The Midwood Theater was The Karate Kid. Which cost $1.50. In the 70s it went up a penny every year to match the new year. Even though it only played one move at a time. It was a great place to grow up. Yes move theaters today has changed the way we watch movies. A lot of people wait for them to come to their home.
holy moly this is the movie theater i used to go to as a kid. my grandparents lived in the town this is in and took me and my sisters there all of the time. sad to see it closed down as i didn't even know it did since i started going to a regal closer to me. thanks for documenting it though! it's nice to see it still mostly intact.
Oddly enough, the last movie I saw right before the pandemic hit was at THIS theater. I had no clue it closed until now... over four years after the fact 😳
This is incredible. We have an AMC here in Westminster CO that’s the exact same 24-plex you just walked through. Down to the doors and elevators. It’s insane seeing it as liminal as it is here.
I love that you're still posting videos my friend! I can't believe you still say the word "sketch"...... totally a 90s and early 2000s word..... i still use it too. Alot better than saying "sus" like nowadays lmao😂
Ive been waiting so long for someone to do an explore of this theater!! I drive by it at least twice a week and always am tempted to go in and explore. I grew up going to this theater I always thought it was the coolest place in the world I was so sad when it closed. A little bit of lore that was never reported on which is also definitely a contributing factor to its closure; a few years before it closed they made a new rule that no one under 21 could see a movie after 7pm on a weekend without someone over 21 present. Not surprising why that would have a huge impact on their business. I always heard it was because there was a stabbing involving teenagers/gangs in the parking lot but that may have just been local gossip lol
That is one amazing movie theater!!! it really should be reopened. I can imagine how it looked before it was abandoned. The saddest thing is that theater looks better in 99% in a movie theaters where I’m from in NYC.
And yes, it is very much closed down for good. AMC had a rental agreement that let them close up to seven locations, and used the option to kill the lease on six including this one (all at once, so the Hamilton 24 here was part of the first wave. They were: AMC Studio 30 AMC Hamilton 24 AMC Portage Street 10 AMC Oakview Plaza 24 AMC Woodridge 18 AMC West Olive 16
So there is no way another investment group could buy/ lease and reopen it as an independent or another chain? Especially with some incentive from the local government to bring business and jobs back to the area.
I spent many weekends going to movies at the Hamilton AMC 24. Lived in the area for 30 years. Took my girlfriend, now wife to several movies there. Many memories.
I used to work there as a Projectionist then in the facilities dept. (If anyone remembers me, I'm British and used to be friends with Anne, Jay, Melissa and Randi).
I was there in 99, before y2k. Had a bet with a manager that the colour cyan was blue, he bet me $200 it was red....we all gathered round the guest services as a paint company was called....obviously I won....that was a good day.
He did clarify in the beginning that it was built in 1999 n closed in 2019 but yea I kinda thought it was sitting there abandoned since 99...still a cool video tho..maybe he just worded it wrong
Man, the temptation to try and power that place up and seeing what we could watch would be too much. I've always wanted to play video games on a movie theatre screen if that were possible.
It is possible to play video games on a movie theater screen, but if its an xbox system, it does not work correctly. If its a playstation system, the picture quality is ok and its not all glitchy. I worked at AMC back in 2011-2013, and they did employee lock in nights once a month. we would watch a movie on the big screen, have nerf gun fights, and then people can hook up a game system via hdmi if they brought one. the projectors had hdmi hookups. it was fun playing 4 player zombies on a big movie theater screen. but that was with a playstation 4 system, my xbox one looked like crap on a projector. the xbox system couldn't figure out how to properly adjust to the projectors resolution, but the ps4 was able to do it just fine.
imagine if someone that loves movies Braught the theater and got one of those large lens Projectors they could keep two rooms for there own movie room and the others into large living room and games room
Incredible video, used to work for AMC as a projectionist many years ago but in the UK, worked for Showcase too. I do think cinemas are dead now, worldwide. Me and my husband worked in cinemas when we met and we both feel the pandemic just finished off the industry. I've said it before on here but your explores make me feel very nostalgic, they are amazing. It's also interesting to me as it's 24 screens, I only worked in 10 or 11 screen ones.
The fire alarm panel was probably indicating a trouble condition. That means something is disconnected in the system. It will not sound the building horn strobes in this case, there has to be an actual alarm initiated by a smoke detector, pull station, or sprinkler head bursting. By the front door, there was a little LCD control panel. That's the fire alarm remote annunciator. It's a remote control panel and display that mirrors the status of the main Fire Alarm Control Panel locked in the closet. The buttons on it won't do anything without the key in it, but you can still see the status of the system there, as it scrolls through every currently logged event.
I snuck into an abandoned movie theater in my area 2 years ago and took my portable projector with me and the showing a movie in there because it had its own power supply It was League of super pets, what was cool was that movie was still playing in theaters at the time I showed it kind of a nice tribute to the old theater 🙂📽️
Ahhh Hamilton 24. The landlord refused to work wih amc after covid and hoping to turn the site into condos. After that somewhat failed they tried to run their own theaters. They then realized that there are no imax and dolby projectors and probably abandoned that plan too. Shame cause amc would probably remodeled it.

Could you tell me why people dont come to this theatre even after things got normal after pandemic?
@@shrikantmahajan831 It officially closed near the end of 2020 so it wasn’t given the chance for things to be more normal again :( It breaks my heart to this day
@@Karin12822 Then could it be reopened again, becoz all the things and assets are intact. What will they do of this theatre if not re-opened?
I grew up near this theater; used to go there all the time. So sad to see it dead 😢
My guess is that the cameras you saw were still active since everything else seemed to be.
anyone else get that weird chill you get when you walk around an empty place just from watching this
Enjoyed the video! As an AMC theater lover, this breaks my heart. With some cosmetic renovations, I feel like this place could breathe new life again.
I used to love coming here with my friends and girlfriend. Having an UNOs next door was a bonus. What a perfect evening out as a young adult/teenager. 😢
Getting in an elevator in an abandoned theater? No way! Great explore guys!
It shut down in 2020 it should be fine lmao
@@SamFurch Elevators are normally inspected at least once a year. That's 4 missed inspections! I'd be too scared lol

From a guy who loves in England, American cinema’s are insane! Massive and so cool! Thanks for filming it!
As an American guy, I can confirm. Some of ones I have been to have arcades, food courts, and even full-on restaurants.
That Imax theater is where I watched Avengers Endgame. I have so many memories of this theater, it gives me goosebumps just watching this video.
Heartbreak feels good in a place like this
Amazing how well preserved it is.
Abandoned movie theaters gotta be one of my favourite type of buildings in urban exploration. Great video!
It's great to be able to read so many memories associated with this cinema in the comments. It complements the exploration brilliantly, creating a closed whole. Perfect!
The fact that the elevator was still even running is impressive.
Btw it is just a Schindler MT
it's cool to see that there's still power there and that no one's did any damage to the place!!!
This is one of your best Explorations ever to see it in such great condition with power still on just completely amazing !
Florida is full of abandoned Golden Corrals too. Only the ones in big cities like Tampa reopened. Regal in Tampa didn’t make it.
This channel is a gem. I got the flu and watched a lot of the videos, and they really inspire me to go out more.
No way you got in! I tried to go in a couple months ago and we set off an alarm and cops came too! You’re lucky to even be able to get inside !
Cops are idiots 🙄
I bet this theatre was packed during the release of The Phantom Menace.
on god
I was there then and it wasn’t
doubt@@2fresh305
Surprisingly packed during “Wild Wild West” 😅
Thank you for this fantastic tour of the AMC Hamilton 24/IMAX Theaters. The video was fun. When I first read you were going to check this place out, I invisioned the entire place vandalized, spray painted, and absolutely filthy. Surprised me, it looks like they are just about to open everything up. It's so sad that Covid destroyed so much of our day to day lives. We just go on, don't we. But a lot of us will carry the fond memories of going to the movies.
Thank you ! Although I'm told the inside is heavily vandalized now. I was able to enjoy it before all of that in pristine condition
@@DarkExploration
Oh, that's very sad news. Well, now it will probably be torn down. I'm happy I got to see it looking that good. Thanks again.
@@DarkExploration Really a shame that people can't respect things while exploring. Glad you guys went there, took some videos and left exactly the way you found it. That's the way urban explorers should be doing.

My favorite theater!!!! So many childhood memories
Ever since Aurora 2012
Wow. I wonder that was about it. My family went there for years up until it closed and we never saw police there with weapons.
Cops are jerks
My favorite movie theatre ever, way better than marketfair. I miss it!
Wow this place is a time capsule. Great explore. Gotta be careful when there is cameras.
Someone partied like it's 1999!
Yo you like Prince too?
I used to love this place, my favorite theatre. One time I was on a date with my ex & the guy taking tickets told us “welcome to the most magical place on earth” as we were walking in. Good times RIP Hamilton AMC 24 😢
I remember when this place opened. So many good memories and weird to think of it as retro lol.
The little star entrance with the round benches, I just imagine it filled with people waiting for their movie or for rides. So wild
Me Never Seen A AMC Theater Before & It's Wonderful That You Gave Me This Chance An Sad To See It Sitting There Not Open Any More. God Bless You.
My local theater is a near twin to this (AMC Forum 30), and it's eerie imagining it abandoned.
Crazy that places like this dont get used for something
Classic 90s, "bigger is better!"
Used to go here all the time since I live near it still and went to college near it. Played so much ddr there. Sad to see it closed. Great memories.
This is ginormous! In England we do not have cinema/movie theatres this large, wow.
The whole cinema complex is as big as half of England.
Hopefully AMC can buy back into this building, once the Box Office picks up, and they have enough extra cash on hand to do so.
@@Julia-cb8wmvery dangerous location? By the Unos and nothing else. Stop it. Your fear mongering is dangerous.
Good show.
Ya. I would have wanted to see the IMAX projector. Those things are huge.
What if there was still movies in them that would be so cool
The projectors were all removed when the theater shut down. But digital projectors are pretty wonderful. Sony, Dolby, and IMAX own then.
@@amyscott5955 Those digital projectors are very expensive so not surprised they were removed.
So many fond memories of having seen “Spider-Man” and “The Dark Knight” there!
I went to this movie theater all the time!! I was so sad when it shut down 🥺 Thank you for exploring and bringing back so many memories! 🙂
I remember going to this place a few times over the years. Maybe there’s still some hope.
Oddly enough, the last movie I saw right before the pandemic hit was at THIS theater. I had no clue it closed until now... over four years after the fact 😳
makes me feel old that the early 2000s look is retro now lol
Weird feeling but true
This theatre was open until 2020
Crazy that stuff like this is just left with power and anything!
This was my favorite theater to go to with my kids there’s no place like AMC 24 I really miss it 😢
Pretty cool. The element of getting caught! A little nerve racking and rush at the same time.
Incredible shape, looks like they walked out 2 days before you got there, not 4 years.
Bruh I'm looking at the flooring of your video icon and noticed the Not See symbol on the floor.
They were:
AMC Studio 30
AMC Hamilton 24
AMC Portage Street 10
AMC Oakview Plaza 24
AMC Woodridge 18
AMC West Olive 16
So there is no way another investment group could buy/ lease and reopen it as an independent or another chain? Especially with some incentive from the local government to bring business and jobs back to the area.
Never mind. I just learned of it's location. It's done
I spent many weekends going to movies at the Hamilton AMC 24. Lived in the area for 30 years. Took my girlfriend, now wife to several movies there. Many memories.
This theater will bring back such great memories from the past😊
I used to work there as a Projectionist then in the facilities dept. (If anyone remembers me, I'm British and used to be friends with Anne, Jay, Melissa and Randi).
I was there in 99, before y2k. Had a bet with a manager that the colour cyan was blue, he bet me $200 it was red....we all gathered round the guest services as a paint company was called....obviously I won....that was a good day.
thumbnail is a bit of clickbait the theater closed in 2019 not 1999
He did clarify in the beginning that it was built in 1999 n closed in 2019 but yea I kinda thought it was sitting there abandoned since 99...still a cool video tho..maybe he just worded it wrong
It would be nice if the vandals leave it alone, but we know that won’t last for long. Thankfully, you got there before it’s all smashed up.
Timthetatman and Dr D played CoD on the Jumbotron at the Dallas cowboys stadium.
imagine if someone that loves movies Braught the theater and got one of those
large lens Projectors they could keep two rooms for there own movie room and the others into large living room and games room
I grew up with that theater as a kid. It's sad that it closed down a lot of memories there.😢
HOLY SHIT I WENT THERE ONCE WITH MY FRIENDS BACK IN MIDDLE SCHOOL! Seeing the thumbnail gave me chronic Deja vu
Now, this building is forgotten, are you serious? You guys are so great to explore.
Way cool, thanks for the tour, too bad about the projector rooms, best part!
Bro really opened a 4 year old ice cream and was surprised it smelled bad 😂
Bro you found the perfect location for a low budget horror film
Looks like it wouldnt be hard get going again.
I snuck into an abandoned movie theater in my area 2 years ago and took my portable projector with me and the showing a movie in there because it had its own power supply
It was League of super pets, what was cool was that movie was still playing in theaters at the time I showed it kind of a nice tribute to the old theater 🙂📽️
I'm reliving my entire childhood right now.
This is the movie theater I grew up with. ❤ Never knew there was an upstairs
