  • Back when Burger King was still pouring Pepsi from the fountain.
    They switched over to Coke in 1990 (thx‪@flutebasket4294‬for that fun fact).
    Gotta love Orange SLICE (your camera is probably blocking it) seen in the video. That had such a unique tangy weird zap!
    The tie-in toy in this video is for the now forgotten Purr-tenders:

I remember I heard a song from 1978 for the first time in 2013, and now 10 years later I associate that '70s song with the summer of 2013 when I was traveling and first heard that tune. Does anyone else remember the original “BK Big Fish” sandwich? Not the paltry little ones they currently sell. This one was introduced in the early 90’s (1993ish) as a replacement for the “Whaler”. It was literally the biggest fish sandwich I’ve seen in chain restaurants and tasted fantastic! My friends and I would walk the 10 minute trek to BK as teens to get a Big Fish at least twice a week. I always wondered why they switched to the current “Big Fish” which pales in comparison both size and taste-wise.

Movie theaters had to start running announcements telling people you were not supposed to talk during the movie, a fact in previous decades people had instinctively understood. The plants would not filter anything worth mentioning. Customers walking in and out had a zillion times more impact on improving air quality than a dozen small plants could ever hope to achieve. Regardless, my joint would have plants all over. In Flint, MI, there was a place called Country Kettle that had a large fountain in the lobby entrance with lots of plants. I loved it and the fresh smell of volatile organic compounds it provided. I get the same satisfaction from the fresh produce isle at supermarkets, especially when the misters are active. A cut fresh flowers walk in refrigeration unit practically gives me an erection from the pleasant smell.

    People were so much more warm back then, evident from a casual experience in a 1988 Burger King. I was born in 1998 and I often resent how technology and smart phone-media changed everything. Even back in 2015 when I was 16 I could sense the decline of common decency. Obviously it wasn't always perfect back in 1988 either but, damn! To this day it's still very interesting to look back on and check out. Did people in the 1990s think the same of people in the 1950s ? i'm sure. history repeats itself.

    • @Earth1218
      @Earth1218 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think what you’re seeing is how much more comfortable people were with face to face communication and with each other back then. You lived your life on the outside, in society, with others. There were subtle norms that kept people generally pleasant with each other. That’s not to say there weren’t jerks, nasty customers, and rudeness. But it was the exception, not the norm.
      Today, many people live in a veiled, cloistered, digital world. We may actually be more connected than ever. But we’ve lost our ability for comfortable, face to face interactions. In our digital world, people are quicker to anger, to rudeness, and to randomly lashing out against others. Because of that, many seem to go through life anxiously, defensively, and on guard. Even when we’re in public, we’re hiding in our phones and avoiding interactions.
      No time period has ever been perfect. The 20th century definitely had its many problems. But there was a calmness and presence in everyday society then that we seem to have lost.
