Hey Eric! I've been teaching singing for decades and I have to say this is by far the best explanation of how to approach and safely use the head and falsetto voice I've ever come across. I was lucky enough to attend the Royal College of Music in London 30 years ago and even they couldn't make it this clear! Thank you. Can't wait to put it into practice in the booth and use your approach in my lessons. 🙌
The name of the song is "God Bless the Child", written by Billie Holiday and Arthur Herzog, Jr. It's a classic jazz standard. Tina B. and I are recording it for an upcoming album project.
+Georgie Gerbier The chest has to move in order for the diaphragm to be free. The question is, "In what way does it move?". If it lifts slightly and broadens the shoulders along with expansion of the rest of the torso, then you're probably good. If, however, it lifts high and draws the shoulders upward/inward, then you have a problem.
Dude, you are the best vocal coach I've found on youtube! Specially this vid! All the other coach just explain this stuff with grumpy non-understandable words of a professional that simpletons like us don't even get the point, let alone sing it. But you man just broke down the matter so simply and yet soo swiftly that I realized I have a head and a falsetto right while watching this video. Thanks a lot. God bless
First of all thank you so much Eric for you free vocal lessons,i've improved great deal by following these steps, however at some point i almost lost hope when i couldn't connect the chest and Head voice..it took me about 7 months to find mine.just like you say "it might take time" but it works damn perfectly with lots of practice and consistency. To everyone following this Channel, you are in the perfect place at the right time.just go slowly over this tips and hurry less ,stick to these simple steps Eric is showing you. above all, love every move you make and you'll see a great change. Be it postive or negative its all a package towards better vocal.Bless you my brother!
Always on time. I went through a large period of time where I was trying to find my old falsetto airy sound on some songs I was writing. I found, I was trying to push out too much air and could feel the cords split apart. This tip going to the vowel fixed my issue immediately. Thank you!
Best singing lesson I've seen on TH-cam. Unlike many, you actually provide examples for every point you bring up. I've watched so many "coaching" videos where you reach the end of the video and you still wonder whether the vocal coach can sing or not.
hey Eric!! I've been watching your videos for a long time and I just want to say thank you so much, I've learned a lot and my scales have increased and I was able to teach my praise and worship team the same techniques and I've recommended them to your channel. thank you so much for basically saving my vocals lol you're awesome!!
This is one of the most powerful lessons on youtube, thank you for that!. I keep re-visting it year after year because the wisdom makes more sense each time
I have been singing the same way for so many years and just by watching a few of your videos the immediate improvements to my overall sound are absolutely amazing to me! Thank you thank you thank you man.
Damn, I can't believe this is free information. It is pure gold. He seems like a very fun teacher too. Kinda wish I had a trust fund so I could just quit work and tunnel into only the things I really want to do. Taking lessons from Eric would be on the top of the list.
wow dude this REALLY helped. Was having trouble with the chorus for Tiny Dancer and I nailed it messing around with your advice in my kitchen just now. Thanks man
I am so happy I've come across your videos. Simple yet detailed and helpful! also very encouraging for me who has thought her entire life she just didn't have a "good enough" voice to sing bc it's not super powerful and bellowing. Developing what I've got, thanks again!
Hey Eric! I just waneted to say thank you so much for all the very helpful and informative videos. I've been watching and practicing the exercises in older videos. Needless to say, they've helped me tremendously and definitely boosted my confidence in finding my "own" voice if you will. I've shown my friends your videos and they just love them. Thank you again for the encouragment and lessons. It really does just take a lot of practice, which people tend to lack patience for.
+EricArceneaux I'll only do this once, but since I got your attention, I gotta say it. Thanks for doing what you're doing. I'm a vocalist in a rock band, and your videos have single-handedly helped me improve my vocal health and confidence as a singer. ESPECIALLY you're vocal warm-up series. Now I'm driving around in my car with my tongue out sending "yah-yah"s in stranger's direction. Since then, notes that used to be difficult to hit, are now comfortably within my range. I look forward to the day I'm successful enough to hire you as a one-on-one vocal coach. Until then, your videos are a great service, and you deserve to know, at least for me personally, your videos changed my life as a vocalist.
Great explanation! He really nailed the difference between Head and Falsetto! It’s important that people understand that there’s a difference between the two. I especially loved how he explained that head voice connects to your chest voice a lot easier than falsetto and has a lot more depth. GREAT VIDEO! Thanks for sharing.
Remember everyone if you use too much of your Witch voice you'll sound like Brittney Spears... Man, I'm picking my jaw off the floor. I'm blown away. First time seeing you. I wish I had half the control you have on that beautiful voice of yours, and the variety of quality voices you can do is astounding. Have you thought of becoming a singer? I learned more in this video than the dozens I watched before combined. I'm just a nobody who is trying to learn to sound good driving in my car by myself. It feels so good to sing along, or mostly accapella and actually hit the notes and make the song your own. Thanks a bunch, you're the best. It's a shame I didn't know you before. Your name sounds French Canadian.
well only five months now i am doing some singing, and trust me you ar amazing because i live in a third word country and we dont have people here who can do what you are doing, so happy to have these videos, i really love singing, and i really want to get it right..thank you so much.
This video was very helpful. I was doing all the things you mentioned. Very nice to have someone point them out and tell me what it should feel like when you're singing healthy and in your own voice. Subscribing.
Eric, let me tell you something: I love listening to your voice- singing and normal. Plus your videos have helped me with my singing an scales with sounds I didn't even know I could do! Keep up the good work and stay wonderful!!!✨🌟💫

+EricArceneaux Eric, can you please tell me where the ton is located in the head? Where do you feel it when you sing, if you feel it at all? Is it in your nose, forehead, mouth? :) Thanks for everything..
+EricArceneaux I have a weak and thin head voice. The notes beyond D5 become very difficult for me to hit with power and full voice. I'm trying to get TWANG in my head voice but somehow I'm failing to get that. What should be the proper technique and embouchure to hit those high notes in full voice with twang ?
That witch voice got me laughing so hard. With tears. Hilarious, especially with the "I'll get you" part. I kept replaying that part and laughing😄😂😄😂😂😂😂
IDK why the YT Gods chose this for me, but stumbling onto this explanation lol.. Hands down this man has the ability to teach. He is very easily explaining some dense vocal techniques in a plain and understandable way. Eric truly has a gift for what he is doing.
Man, you're super likable. Not sure how much actual use I will get out of this channel (though I am getting somewhat interested in practicing my singing since people, over the past few years, have said they found my voice to be pleasant, which was surprising to me) but I'm subscribing.
This guy is really funny. I have been looking at a lot of women coaches that are teaching the same thing, but I’m actually getting it. This is my first time watching and I can see what I’ve been doing right, and what I’ve been doing wrong without feeling guilty hehe Thanks a lot!!!
FINALLY! Some male coach that explained that head voice is the immediate sound that comes after your chest voice can't go any higher. And falsetto is that high, breathy register that is disconnected from your actual chest voice. I've been struggling so much with understanding which one I should work on.
Love, love, love your videos. You are charmingly-weird, entertaining, authentic and have the voice of an angel. I also appreciate the thoroughness and technicality in your explanations. It is extremely helpful for us novice singers. Needless to say, thank you for these videos and keep being weird. Weird is good. -a new fan
I am practicing...feeling it...this is awesome!! I am recovering from major surgery. These are great breathing exercises even just for that! Great job Eric!
Due To Erick Arceneux with all his exercises...now I am a Tenor. Despite his teaching is related with Popmusic...I learned to sing as a Liric Tenor. Thanks Eric. for the Approach program.
WOW! Big difference! I was singing along to this, and I have recently been having problems with sounding way too breathy until I was fully warmed up (as much as possible, anyway), when something would just click and the body would come into the sound, giving it that "core" you kept referring to. I didn't know what was happening...Just that I had to really get super warmed up to sound full. That "witch voice" section and the line from the bonus tip that was saying that there is "an in-between" really fixed it. Ironically, the bit about the vocal folds touching that you were trying to skip over for clarity's sake was what lead me to the solution. Thank you!
Damn this dude is a great singer.
I like your humor in your style of teaching voice lessons.
Hey Eric! I've been teaching singing for decades and I have to say this is by far the best explanation of how to approach and safely use the head and falsetto voice I've ever come across. I just melted at the beginning. Your voice is sultry and heavenly to my ears.
The name of the song is "God Bless the Child", written by Billie Holiday and Arthur Herzog, Jr. It's a classic jazz standard. Tina B. and I are recording it for an upcoming album project.
Eric can you PLEASE upload more singing turorials PLEASE? Thank you so much
I've been doing my breathing exercises with the help of your videos but I find that my chest still moves is that normal?
+Georgie Gerbier The chest has to move in order for the diaphragm to be free. The question is, "In what way does it move?". If it lifts slightly and broadens the shoulders along with expansion of the rest of the torso, then you're probably good. If, however, it lifts high and draws the shoulders upward/inward, then you have a problem.
+MC Jay lol. I think I have about 100 on TH-cam alone, but I'll see what I can do ;)
+EricArceneaux thanks for answering my question :)

I'm not even a singer and I don't know how I got here, but wow you have some skill.
I hope in some future life I can be half as good at anything as this guy is at singing. Holy guacamole.
Your professionalism is naturally funny..awesome man..I'm learning to accep mt voice..
The ending of this video is pure brilliance, cause I’ve been trying to do breathy voice for a long time. Thank you brotha 🤘
3:10 his inner usher came out lol
I'm a female and my head voice is freaking weak
brilliant vocals

Due To Erick Arceneux with all his exercises...now I am a Tenor.

Thanks Eric. for the Approach program.
Speechless… best explanation there is ! Thanks a lot 🙏🏼
I really like the way so you give the exercises. because they are very detailed. I would like to become almost like you.
Eric, How would I know if I'm already in my headvoice and not in my falsetto? I'm really confused.
Exactly my thoughts
Mike Wazowski falsetto is breathy
You found out by now right?
if you use breath to reach falsetto its head voice but when you have powerfull head voice its falsetto
Great video! Been taking lessons for 2 years have built a good base and now your videos are a way for me to refine and build on that. A++
your voice is amazing now! vocal muscles stronger than ever ...well done!
your teaching style make me improve more nd more...thank you, your a great teacher
I enjoyed the lesson and Tips... Your approach covers all ages. Thank You Very Much..

That "witch voice" section and the line from the bonus tip that was saying that there is "an in-between" really fixed it. Ironically, the bit about the vocal folds touching that you were trying to skip over for clarity's sake was what lead me to the solution. Thank you!
Thanks for explaining this. I think I'm starting to understand.
You have an amaaaazing voice.;-)
AAYYY my boy! I'm an immigrant from NOLA too. Thanks for the tutorials man, I love your style.
