Thanks man, I'm absorbing these tips. I'm a guitar player first but I'm sick of waiting for "the singer" to show up and have decided to do it myself. Something I noticed about my self is that instead of singing from a point where I can hear myself sing with my ears, I sing from a point of what I 'imagine' I sound like In my head instead of actually hearing what I sound like with my ears, I imagine what I sound like in my head which is probably why I've made no progression in my singing voice. So instead of focusing all my attention on what I 'think' I sound like, I should be focusin all my attention on what sound like in my ears. I know what you mean when you say a lot of it is mental. Cuz when I try to imagine or think about what I sound like, I'm not actually hearing the sound of my own voice with my ears, I only hear what I'm imagining or thinking about what I sound like instead of actually focusing and hearing what I actually sound like. Does this make sense? I hear the sound of my voice as what I imagine it sounds like but I'm notw hearing my voice for what it really sounds like. You are 150% correct when you say there is a mental part of singing not just a physical. Please keep the vids coming-out
Same. But of it may be related to a fear (insecurity) as well, so you suppress your full voice because you want to sing but don't really want to be heard.
I actually realized this fact not long before watching the video, because I tried to copy my favorite artist's voice like many others. But then I gave up at that after a few weeks because I couldn't quite make it sound as good. That made me feel like I was just simply a worse singer and worse than her. And I just let that go, I used my own voice the second my failed attempts made me feel despondent, and it surprised me how I instantly fucking sounded so much better at the song. I realized I'm _not_ worse, different≠worse. I can be their different equal. So, you may not sound like your favorite artist. You may sound bad when you really try and practice to sound like them. But it can absolutely sound equally and differently awesome at the same time when you sing someone else's song, if you stop putting effort into imitating their voice. If you only give up and use your own. It won't sound the same, but it can sound just as great. Imagine if one of your favorite artists sang another artist's song. They won't sound the same at all, but you might know they'd still make it sound *awesome.* By them adding their own twist to the song, by using their own voice to their advantage. It isn't a weakness at all if you can't copy someone else. Sorry if too much paraphrasing. Great tips in the video.

Thank you for this video. I've always struggled with my voice because I thought it was bad to sound different, I mean my speaking voice is very different, I was always insecure because for a female it's rather masculine. I've even gotten complimented because of my uniqueness by a coach, and he said it was beautiful, but for some reason, I still feel insecure about it to this day. I listen to it on recording and objectively it's not even bad, but I have this personal hatred towards it. Apparently many singers struggle with this, but I'm just having trouble seeing the light.

Love how you broke this down! Using my diaphragm in a relaxed, natural manner still seems unnatural most of the time but when I hit that flow state from time to time it yields such a rich sound 👌🏼
I’m basically tone deaf, have a very flat talking voice, and have a hard time hearing pitch. Luckily, my band director taught us pitch to tune our instruments and made us sing to tune and learn music pieces. So now, even though I’m still awfully flat, I can listen to music and hear the tones and pitches and work on singing them better. Slowly getting better, and trying to use videos like this to learn new things!

All of the other singing tutorials made no sense to me (esp. the part where you remark about how some teachers tell you to lock your abdomen). I followed through the video and I could actually here a slight/faint vibrato in my voice and I was very surprised. All of the other videos didn't teach me anything but only made it more complicated. Thank you for helping me find "my voice" as this video taught me well and gave me an advice I could comprehend and perform it myself.

You know one of the things I love the most, is singing. I have many siblings and many of us have different artistic capabilities. My brother is an amazing drawer and painter. My sister finds passion in home remodeling and renovation. And my passion is music. I know how to play many instruments from guitar to drums to even piano. But I never learned how to play my own instrument (that being my voice) so currently I am practicing everyday trying to find my voice and use it to create a sound unique to the ones around me and those I listen to. And I have lost motivation many times but for some reason the way this dude here explains everything just encourages me a lot to continue trying.
I am so impressed by your knowledge. As someone who has sang in church all of her life, I have not encountered many people who can sing well. I'm thankful that you took the opportunity to share this knowledge so that we can be better singers!

I watched your video about 2 hours or so ago. I play guitar and sing while I play. I cannot genuinely thanks you enough. Your instruction has already so greatly improved my singing and more importantly moving forward the way I approach my vocals. Thank you for this video. I've always struggled with my voice because I thought it was bad to sound different, I mean my speaking voice is very different, I was always insecure because for a female it's rather masculine. I've even gotten complimented because of my uniqueness by a coach, and he said it was beautiful, but for some reason, I still feel insecure about it to this day. I listen to it on recording and objectively it's not even bad, but I have this personal hatred towards it. Apparently many singers struggle with this, but I'm just having trouble seeing the light.
I mean I listen to my voice all the time and my voice is no stranger to me, but it's so frustrating dealing with this personal indifference.

Love how you broke this down! Using my diaphragm in a relaxed, natural manner still seems unnatural most of the time but when I hit that flow state from time to time it yields such a rich sound 👌🏼
I’m basically tone deaf, have a very flat talking voice, and have a hard time hearing pitch. Luckily, my band director taught us pitch to tune our instruments and made us sing to tune and learn music pieces. So now, even though I’m still awfully flat, I can listen to music and hear the tones and pitches and work on singing them better. Slowly getting better, and trying to use videos like this to learn new things!

All of the other singing tutorials made no sense to me (esp. the part where you remark about how some teachers tell you to lock your abdomen). I followed through the video and I could actually here a slight/faint vibrato in my voice and I was very surprised. All of the other videos didn't teach me anything but only made it more complicated. Thank you for helping me find "my voice" as this video taught me well and gave me an advice I could comprehend and perform it myself.

You know one of the things I love the most, is singing. I have many siblings and many of us have different artistic capabilities. My brother is an amazing drawer and painter. My sister finds passion in home remodeling and renovation. And my passion is music. I know how to play many instruments from guitar to drums to even piano. But I never learned how to play my own instrument (that being my voice) so currently I am practicing everyday trying to find my voice and use it to create a sound unique to the ones around me and those I listen to. And I have lost motivation many times but for some reason the way this dude here explains everything just encourages me a lot to continue trying.

I watched your video about 2 hours or so ago. I play guitar and sing while I play. I cannot genuinely thanks you enough. Your instruction has already so greatly improved my singing and more importantly moving forward the way I approach my vocals. I have a big hill to climb before I am anywhere near where I want to be, but today thanks to this video I have taken such a huge step. I am having so much fun rite now playing songs I could hardly put my guitar down long enough to write this comment. My most sincere thanks for you making such an easy to understand and apply lesson.
