Awesome video, thanks, I’m getting ready to repair my 1983 ATC 250R rear shock, and it has zero pressure in it, and I can hear the squishy noise from the rear shock. Thanks a bunch for sharing your knowledge
The only way to add oil is to open up the shock. To slow down the rebound of any shock there is a knob at the bottom of the shock (if you purchased the rebound option). To slow the rebound down you screw the knob clockwise looking from the bottom. To adjust the compression you do the same with the knob on the top of the shock, clockwise is slower. So in your case if they feel too stiff then you would want to turn the knob counter-clockwise. Your spring rate could be too stiff also though!
Finally an answer to my problem. Was taking apart my rear Showa shock for the first time and let the nitrogen out and was a few steps ahead. Then I watched another vid where the guy said to test the shock action rebound to see if the shock is good. I never thought it was going to be bad and not work so when I tried it and it didn’t work I was worried. I’m assuming it is because I had already let the nitrogen out though correct? Seemed low on oil too because not much came out when I got the other part off. Could be both? Is it possible to have a blown shock that can’t be repaired?
1st of all, great video, very informative. I suspect your response to my question (If I'm fortunate enough to receive one) will be in the negative, but I'm desperate so I'll ask anyway. I own a 1989 Nissan D-21 Hardbody 4x4. I bought it from a guy that was seriously into off road, and ran it over the Baha course 5 times. The front suspension has been radically modified. The original mounts and coil spring suspension were removed, and all custom mounting points were fabricated. It now has three shocks per side. Two gas/oil remote reservoir, and one shorter oil shock down lower. My problem is that the two reservoir shocks (Rancho 7230 -T8041) have finally failed. They are from the early 90s. Rush says that they no longer produce seals/rebuild kits for them (no real surprise there) To buy new shocks to replace these would cost more than the truck is worth, but it's an awesome truck, very clean, in good shape. I want to keep it on the road if I can, if it doesn't become cost prohibitive. Is there any chance that you might know of any after market rebuild kits or seals/O-rings that might work? I know it's a long shot, but thanks either way.
Wondering how much oil is necessary... and pressure. Is there a standard? Or a way to know with how much it cones from factory? Great info thanks for sharing.
Thanks just what i was looking for, One question if the screw in the nitro reservior does not make any change and the shock its to bouncy, its nitrogen problem? Thanks
how do you add more oil? my shocks (pep front and back) pb-1 in front and a pep-8 in the back dont adjust by the knob. the rear shock rebounds way to fast (how do i adjust rebound?) and the front shock has the right rebound just its to firm for me (how do i adjust stiffness if knob doesent work?) im srry for my manu questions just im like the needle in the hay stack im so confused on what could be the problems with them idk thank you so much, please respond !!! thx-nate ( love your vid!)
I’ve done a lot of rear shocks on 90s Mx bikes. How do I fill monobody kyb shocks on rear snowmobile suspensions? There is no Schrader but just a small Phillips. The needle fill? Thanks.
You should service your shocks annually to ensure proper lubrication and proper nitrogen pressure. Along with inspecting all your internal parts for wear
Very good Video!! One question how about once i push shock down and only goes back up half ways? It does not extend all the way. Is that also a problem? They are fox 2.0 please advise thank you
Excellent video with plenty of information! Thanks a lot sir! How you ever heard the RFY SHOCK ABSORBER? chinese absorber but if they any good i mean. Would like to buy a set of those but have sone second thoughts. Thanks for your reply!
They don't have reservoir etc that is just a casting the rfy are just basically a spring and minimal damping not much different to other Chinese shocks used on atvs and monkey bikes better than some but no good if wanted actual rebound and compression items
Ei , Nice imformative vídeo .. I have a question , i have been check my atv shocks , They are like thats you show , I disassembly Them , clean and and new oil.. al parts Seems ok. Put al on the place and now my my question . I charge them with nitrogen (160 psi) Its normal the rod dont come up in totality? I mean it stays a litle beat down of maximum (open) Did i put much oil? I put same amout , and a litle beat more . Any Help are apreciate Thnx
So on my 2003 Honda cr80rb I was out riding and towards the end of the ride the shocks got really really soft, so me being stupid I thought the valve stem was a bleeder valve but it felt like it was sucking in air once I had pushed the valve in it felt stiff again but the next time I took the bike out it felt like there was no dampening at all there is no negative or positive pressure in the nitrogen reservoir so I'm wondering if I have both a nitrogen and oil problem.
The purpose of the nitrogen is to create a pressure on the oil in the shock body. With out this as the shock travels through its up and down motion it will create a air pocket around the piston and valving resulting in a loss of dampening. Most offroad motorcycles need to have 150-175psi of nitrogen in the nitrogen chamber. If it feels like a pogo stick you have air trapped in with the oil. It needs pulled apart bleed properly and refilled with proper amount of nitrogen. Thanks
My front forks on my 2008 WR450F feels very stiff. And as if the rebound setting adjuster and even the compression adjusters make no difference. Can you do this same style video for from dirt bike forks?
most front shocks have an air bleeder, unlike rear shocks you don't want pressure in the forks (when there fully extended, make sure when you open the bleeder screws the bike is on a stand). it sounds like you have pressure build up if the dampening screws aren't doing anything. also this is a very old comment so I'm sure you have a solution by now lol.
my sons xr 250 feels to have no dampening in the rear shock. you can just feel the spring and bounce it.....so im guessing that resembles the same problem in the latter part of this video....oil leaked out due to bad seal most likely correct? Is this something I can rebuild myself, or does it have to be sent to someone for repairs>
how can i tell if some or most of the gas leaked out with the spring still mounted on it, how would the ride feel on a bike with bad mono shock, do i really need to remove it and break it down to know for sure
Hey do you think you can't tell me what the problem is in my rear ATV shock?I seem to have oil leaking but the suspension works just fine and the oil is not coming from the engine.
If it is a bladder style shock then there is more oil in the shock than what is needed. If the shock is leaking then you will eventually loose enough oil and then it will feel springy. Remove the shock from the bike, remove the spring, turn it upside down in a vise and push the shaft into the shock. If you feel air in the shock then it is blown :)
💥💥PLEASE READ AND RESPOND!💥💥 If there isn't a way for me to get nitrogen, am I able to pump it up with an electric pump with normal "air"? If so what psi would you recommend after letting all the nitrogen out. And when I opened the front forks up, I smelled butane?? I'm not quite sure but I thought only fork oil was supposed to go inside? Please help💢💢💢💢💢💢💢💢💢💢💢💢
If my shock has oil in it and on the resovor the screw is all the way tight would it need air to stiffen it up its not really soft i just want to stiffen it a lil pls respond
Hi, i have an issue with my Fox RC3 motocross shock.. in the morning before i use the suspension and ride it , the free sag is within spec, and the top of the range is nice and plush, and then once i ride it and come back in 2 hours , look at my free sag, it has increased dramatically to an inch or 2. the plushness in that upper range is gone as well and it squats a lot lower and the shock is much stiffer.. then next morning when i go to check again , when it has sat for a while, THE RANGE IS RESTORED ! plushness is back haha what do you suppose is the problem, ? thanks for the video btw , i was thinking the nitrogen might be low and might be some bubbles in the oil. .?
The difference is that air expand when it gets hot. The 2 will act the same until it gets hot! Also it's hard to find someone that has an air compressor that goes to 200 psi.
Old comment, but its possible the air bleed screws were opened while the forks were compressed, so now when it tries to go past that point it is drawing a vacuum, otherwise the rebound damping is too far closed.
Hi dear can you tell me how or where I can go to fix my car shocker and how to add oil My car is passacc and is Electric shocker is I need help please Thanks

Exactly the info I was looking for, thanks! Just need to hit up my welding buddy for the nitrogen and the manual for how much pressure.
Nitrogen pressures vary depending on the piston design and histirisis. Most use 150-200
Hey man u are deadly and informative the most ive found so far. I cant find any info on Fox Zero Pro XC shocks front or back ....can u make a video
That clunking noise when my shock rebounds make sense now after discovering my oil leak.
Where does one get a nitro charge? Amazon? Small cans?

Whats the body tube size really only thing need to know. Bless
dose the shock have to be off of the dirtbike to fill it up
What hapens when you put regular sir grom compressor

can I put 150psi air in my rear shock?
can you just go to a air pump like the ones for your car tyres???

Nice demo and clear explanation.
I'm thinking of getting a nitrogen performance shock. Do they need periodic refilling or do they just sometimes leak?
You should service your shocks annually to ensure proper lubrication and proper nitrogen pressure. Along with inspecting all your internal parts for wear

Thank you man..appriciate you share your kwoledge ..
What’s the difference of running nitrogen compared to normal air?
Normal air contains 78% nitrogen. If that helps
@@TRC91 even more reason for my question if it’s 78% nitrogen already
Moisture. Air in shock bodies is bad news.
can the gas be release out of a kyb shock?
how much nitrogen does the shock take?
Probably just going to have to replace it.
How hard would it be to out new seals in a fox zero pro shock?for a 2010 sno pro 500.

So if my elka stage 4 rear shock is soft with a pogo stick rebound is it oil or nitrogen?
Can we fill the type pressure gas on shock??
Thx for this vid nice to see visual comparison
Obviously I wouldn't be able to get up to 200 PSI but could I use regular air at say 50 psi to help troubleshoot the problem
If my shock has oil in it and on the resovor the screw is all the way tight would it need air to stiffen it up its not really soft i just want to stiffen it a lil pls respond
@@Nickk.amador I love it when people use reasoning to overcome problems, that's how man evolves, trial and error
How much air u put in them
what if the rear end is jus soft
My rm needs sum can i put air tho?
thx, just the common n2 pressure would have been nice. thumbs up anyway.
Hai m8, how to fill the oil ?
Perfect ... thanks bro ✌👏👏

MaulTechATV
Does it mean that air cannot be use for the job?
1876 UNLOCKER He just told you. It can but it gets hot even if someone has a compressor that goes up to 200 psi.
what could it be when my shock doesnt rebound fully and feels kinda springy and makes a hard knocking noise when reboounding?
so u dont measure how much nitrogen u put in it?
So if my shock is really bouncy I need oil?
My shock does it to bad
My front forks on my 2008 yz250f go down but dont come back up whats wrong
Old comment, but its possible the air bleed screws were opened while the forks were compressed, so now when it tries to go past that point it is drawing a vacuum, otherwise the rebound damping is too far closed.

thank you!! very helpful when i get Home ill try it out, thx - nate
could you use air?
You could use air but the pressure will increase as the shocks heat up
k, thanks
No way
I use air and have never seen a difference or had a problem.
Great video

waths the Nitrogen pressure?
It all depends on the manufacturer and brand of shock you have?
Hi dear can you tell me how or where I can go to fix my car shocker and how to add oil
My car is passacc and is Electric shocker is
I need help please
Thanks
so if pull hard pull hard just need gas nite
Thanks, my BC shit coils are dead
Ask fox about not using air
hey dummies air is 80 percent nitrogen
No it's not. Nitrogen is flammable and explosive.
dose the shock have to be off of the dirtbike to fill it up
