If you set the pressure at 100 psi and don't check it, it will have 100 psi in it. When you release the pressure in the hose and open the schrader valve it equalizes pressure between the shock and the hose. You can also lose oil every time you bleed off that extra 50 psi.
Seems like a lot of work just to add 20% nitrogen and given that you did not purge the line of air prior to filling might as well just fill with regular air.
Dam make me curious about my shocks since I’m coming up on a year with my lift and shocks even though I don’t wheel anywhere close to how much y’all do. Awesome information and showing how to do it!
JL LIFE OFFROAD it was pretty bumpy on the trail yesterday. I could’ve lowered the psi a bit more in the tires though. Really need to get the ARB Twin Air compressor. Spent 30-40 mins filling up my tires after the trail other than putting my detachable mudflaps. Pre and post trail is most of the time an hour, but I think I need to see if the shocks are good. When I swapped out the 2.5” coils for the 3.5” coils the shocks were still pretty stiff and that was about 6 months ago I think.
Yea... tht twin arb gets work done fast... so does the power tank... I used to use the viair compressor.... but taking 40-50 minutes to air up was not acceptable to me
Yup! Gotta maintain your stuff!! You're right about buying your own setup being more cost effective in the long run. You'll pay anywhere from 85-100 bucks an hour on labor. Doing this yourself twice, it will pay for itself. Great vid again!!👍🏻👊🏻
No one, who knows anything about compressed gas bottles, would EVER EVER EVER have a bottle standing alone unattached to a post or strapped down in a cart. Look at the high pressure side reading of a full bottle. If the bottle fell and the valve snapped off, you would have missile that could EASILY KILL anyone in its path. Advice from an old welder.
Aahhhh the joys of jeepin ....maintenance is soo very important.... great video ....just remember the bigger you go the more catastrophic the failure... keep the shinny side up.
Where do you get all that equipment and what is it called? What will I be asking for, when I'm looking to purchase my own refill rig? And where do I get my own?
Great info I have the same shocks for my jk I love them. Adam at rock Krawler told me 80 psi all around that’s what they leave factory with I might go a little more psi now
nice man! to save time couldn't have you done that with them installed on the vehicle? i haven't gone out to look at mine, but they're sealed fox 2.0 anyway.
There was no room with the position of the scharder valve. U shouldn’t have to if they are sealed... but rebuilding a shock.... don’t look like fun 😂😂😂
Hey tx for the vid - working on my 97 cr250 rear shock, when I test bladder to 40 psi with just air the shaft doesnt push out, is this an issue? Just put a new seal head inside and re-assembled, it was so bad / zero damping, feels gr8 now-
Can you fill your shocks while the shocks are still on your vehicle? I have easy access to the shocks but not sure that the shock length is going to be out far enough while it's still on the vehicle.
@@JLLIFEOFFROAD I think I would have to take one shock off, pressurize to correct pressure, then reinstall it leaving the valve with gauge on and place back on the ground to see how much the pressure rises. based on that number I could fill the rest? I dont think there is a variance between front and rear shocks? also in the future I would have to make sure the jeep was about the same weight when I refill down the line?
@@johndamico9127 ideally, you want it weighted to your planned purpose. If you are typically weighted heavy for overlanding stuff… you would have a higher psi. @@JLLIFEOFFROAD went to my local welding supply before they closed and was able to pick up a 80 pound tank. I had a tank to use as a core so only $88 for the tank of nitrogen. Reaching the Schrader valve while installed in the jeep may prove extremely challenging... I recommend taking them off for ease of fill ..."softer" ride would mean less psi, but be careful. If you have to little psi, your shock will bottom out and will damage the shock.
Question! Did they clunk when they were low PSI? I've got a clunk from my reservoir shocks and I'm trying to figure out if its low pressure or if the seal has failed.
Silly question, are the mounting bolts tight? Clunking can come from the shock if the psi is to low… the trouble shooting with tht would be checking the psi ….. if it’s low… recharge… check the psi once a week to see if it’s leaking … from there, finding the leak… Also want to make sure you are not bottoming out the shock, tht can damage parts and seals also
Question, how do you know which shocks are for the front vs rear with the rrd’s? The only difference I could notice between the two pairs is the bottom mount hole is different. Does it matter which ones go on front vs rear? Thx!
This might be a dumb question bro but cant you refill the nitrogen into the shocks while they are on the jeep and on a lift with axel droop ? Just asking for a friend ...😆 🤣 😂 as always great video Bro thanks...
Thanks for continuing to educate on so many aspects of the jeep. Information like this is so useful 👍

Thanks bud. Buying a poly performance nitrogen fill kit so I don’t have to wait 6 weeks for my local shop to do it.
Dang, they sound backed up. It’s alwYs nice knowing you can take care of most things in your own garage

The best way to be able to tell if they are bad is the ride comfort of ur jeep... u can feel it when shocks are bad.

Wondering why no one uses plain air like on a motocross bike?
Great video man looking at trying to get a set of these for the XJ 🤙

If in Albuquerque. Can u charge mine??
It's been about 5years since mine have been serviced on my 2500hdtruck.. I know they need this done.
My friends kit, he bought on eBay… was nothing special. We bought on me after this
Or just google shock nitrogen refill kit.
Assuming the same process when using a needle valve?
Can you do this without removing the shock from our jeeps? Not sure if you answered that yet 😊
Not these ones... no room to get the nitrogen fill cave on with the shock mounts on the jeep.

What will do. Buy new or valve/rubber reinstall?

It’s attached to the refill gauge

Wow, so how much Nitrogen Gas do I need to re-fill the tube?
Not much, this tank size will last a few years
hey all you TIG welders out there, you can just use your argon bottle to fill your shocks as well
Are you in Arizona?
Where Can I buy that plug for connecting the hose to the strut?
they can be found on amazon or any 4x4 dealer
