    when I was a little boy living in a small mining town in Arizona, I used to day dream of flying in a big airplane all over the world. When I became a C-5 flight engineer my dreams became reality. I flew for 17 years an over 10,000 hours. I still miss the wild blue younder.

    Love the C-5 and I love the awesome sound of the TF-39 engines. You could hear it from several miles away. Will miss them with the transition to the new engines on the Super Galaxy's.

    I enjoy watching these videos
    It brings back great memories when my Wife was active duty in the US Navy during the entire decade of the 1990's and we were station in California Washington State and Lasty Japan.. And we were always living in the US Air Force Bases and 👂 hearing those GE engines warming up I would grab my kids and park and see them take off as you see these vids... But , unfortunately When we were station in Japan I had to come back to Texas for a Funeral and I Hope on a C5 Galaxy to Travis AF base than to San Antonio Kelly AF base and omg !! What Power ! And awesome flight ! As you can there's no window to look out and enjoy the Arial View 😬 and for those wondering the seats are literally at the top considering the payloads these C5 can transport... Really Miss these C5 flights over the yrs... And know watching these vids you only Apprieciate our Military active duty personal world wide.. So next time you see one take off or landing seeing the US Air Force on the C5 gives you chills and proud to Be Americans and Free 👍🇺🇸🇺🇸

    Much like the UH-1, the "banshee howl" of those engines are so very distinctive. I had the luxury of living at 2 different Air Bases in West Germany that had a constant stream of C-5's coming and going over a 10 year period. I was able to hop a Space Available flight from Dover AFB to Rota NAS in Spain in the fall of '87 trying to get to Ramstein AB to visit my parents while on leave. Getting into Rhein Main AB or Ramstein AB was impossible as REFORGER '87 was in full swing. That trip from MCAGCC 29 Palms to Rhein Main via Space "A" was a journey for the ages. I ended up taking at least one leg on every larger aircraft that the, then, Military Airlift Command was operating. C-141B from March AFB to Andrews AFB, C-130E from Andrews to Dover, C-5B from Dover to Rota, Navy C-9 Medevac (exact same model as the MAC C-9's flying out of Rhein Main) to Sigonella NAS in Sicily another Navy C-9 from Sigonella to Athens AB in Greece, hopped a C-130E from Athens back to Rhein Main via Torrejon AB in Spain. Took me 8 days in all and ended up costing me more than flying civilian from LAX to Frankfurt would have... To quote The Grateful Dead, when I got into dad's car at the Rhein Main AB MAC Passenger Terminal, I could not help but start humming a few bars of "What a Long, Strange Trip It Has Been"... lol

      I'm impressed at the size of the C-5 (the thing can carry six AH-64 Apache attack helicopters), but even more impressed that it's capable of flying

    Great Engine Sounds The Best!!!

  • @MrZlodeus
    @MrZlodeus 8 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    What a sound! The engine acceleration from ground idle to take-off power is incredibly fast for such a big engine.
    BTW, the correct serial is 70-0461, there's one zero too many. Five digits after the fiscal year would make it an Army Aviation serial, which it isn't.

      @@dreaded_pegasus6578 - the engines don't have to be big...BUT they are very powerful, especially when you consider the size of the aircraft and the load it carries!!! Impressive! Most impressive!
