Them little bits you pick out are so important to document. I notice you are always picking out the bits n bobs, not just the huge structures. Great job, Gareth. Lee
A lovely wonderful anniversary to you both🙂 thank you for this tremendous video during your travels around the country and it is always so interesting and I learn a lot from it too. You include so much important history in it also. Much appreciated Gareth 💯🙏
Fab video! We'll have to keep an eye out for the viaduct when we travel down home again to the Isle of Wight early next month. Today is a special day for us. Two years ago today my hubby suffered a stroke. Recovering nicely.
I recall seeing the viaduct as a very young child when driving from Southampton northwards. Used to get a good view of it while stopped at the traffic lights that used to exist on the M3 before they built the new section.
It was an interesting walk. I recall we stopped in Winchester to visit the Barracks Museum on our way home from the Isle of Wight. Happy belated Anniversary. I hope you both had an amazing time. It was our 25th anniversary in July.
Glad you had an enjoyable walk; I enjoyed it vicariously. Such beauty and history. What an awesomely engineered viaduct. Don’t think your style is Swampy’s; however, don’t know really what your style was back when you were in your teens ;)
Brilliant video thanks Gareth &. Happy Anniversary to you both. went under Charlestown down some of the clay pit tunnels with the little rails it's only tiny but very Cornish! It's under the ship wreck treasure museum & the Shackleton Antarctic exhibition, worth a visit though to see the history of what it was like ❤
Nice vid Gareth. Also I laughed at your father's joke yesterday in his book Perception Deception where he mentioned that a teacher asked you what's a chameleon and you thought comedian and proceded to explain that it was someone who told jokes
Cool trek! Fun fact: a ticket inspector in Didcot once told me that the word 'Didcot' is the name of the piece of card that is punched out of a train ticket... Not sure if he was having me on, but I’ve often touted that to be true!
Love these videos Gareth. Moved to Australia 32 years ago, now live in Tasmania which is stunning but a part of my heart stays in the UK. Devastated at what is occurring there. I follow you on Telegram so you know how I feel xxx thank you for your hard work and regards to your dad x
Lovely walk Gareth, I didn't know about the plague pits! At 17.29 you're standing in front of a very small car parking space (with a white car in it) , which was once the site of a single locomotive engine shed and coaling stage - I made a vid about this section of the line myself a few years ago. "City of Truro" used to work this line up from Southampton terminus to Didcot frequently, There is even a photograph taken from the footplate just as it is passing St Catherine's hill, and going over one of the bridges.
Also David explained that whenever he hears that strange word hypotenuse that it always triggers memory's to him being bored daydreaming in the classroom lol
Im sure Swampy was living in Tree's around the Old Tott Cutting when the Newbury Bypass was being constructed. Whatever the arguments were it sure did make the Bottle Neck in Newbury dissapeard. So did the M4 interchange. And with the A43 Silverstone etc also getting by passed it certainly sped up the journey down to the South Coast.
Hayup Gareth really enjoyed that proper funny! Ditto the viaduct always wanted to see it myself, Future T-shirt logo perhaps I like beauty but I like railways more! The bridge tunnel debate is there an engineering solution or answer? If it supports more width than a two lane road plus walkways, or two tracks plus maintenance sidewalk if it’s beyond that it’s a tunnel? an if that be the case is there a point in which it’s both, can it be both so a bridge tunnel if on the cusp? who knows I guess. Twyford was a big deal often wonder what they found digging that giant gulley, there’s an energetic connection to Salisbury plain an beyond to that special place love the hillforts. I worked in Winchester fitting out shops with all new wiring lovely old buildings, anyway the southern electricity board turned up an dug a great big hole outside on the street to connect the services, then spent an hour and a half putting up a makeshift barrier so no one fell in to the hole, an just before they left they reversed there giant van in to it! It took nine blokes to lever it out classic! Cheers

Thank you! Yeah, we're not in great shape currently.

Oh that's amazing. I would love to see that image. There was a turntable here wasn't there? Looks like it was a lovely line.

Road knowledge has arrived at the party! Ha.
Great video, and happy Anniversary!
Thank you!

I used to work in that goods yard shed building when it was a scrapyard back in the 80s
Was there more stuff remaining back then?
@@IckeWalks My memory is not very good so maybe there was some stuff remaining back then or stuff i did not see

Thanks mate. It is lovely around there. Bit out my price range unfortunately!
Happy Anniversary. Great to see so many bonus remains. Is it a bridge or a tunnel?
@@bwaynesilva I'm going tunnel!
Cannot get enough of these!!
Is the Swindon Old Town Railway Path on your radar???
Peace
It wasn't! Ha. I used to live in Chippenham and played ice for Swindon for a couple of years. Be nice to go back!
Surprised you never ventured down the Corsham Stone Quarries with living in Chippenham 🤔
I agree on that one. But what would Phil say?
Your Father s new book?Is this also available in german?
It will be. Probably not until the end of the year, though. Currently being translated.
