- Ayup - We're back in Yorkshire.
Phil, Ande, Nikita, Jake, and myself are trudging through the stinging nettles to take a look at the beautiful Crigglestone Viaduct.
The stunning twenty one arch masterpiece was opened in 1905 and with the exception of a twelve year period between world wars, when it hosted passenger trains, was solely a goods line, until its closure in 1968.
The area is an absolute mishmash of different railway lines, colliery branches, and canals, so this one is a bit of a mixed back of embedded tracks, bridges, tunnels, and all sorts of other railway remains, with Crigglestine viaduct being the blue brick centrepiece.
I'll get my apology in early. I have no idea why, but both me and Phil refer to it as 'Grigglestone', which sounds like a Harry Potter character, throughout.

Your videos are an absolute blessing🙂So enjoyable to watch 💯 Thank you gareth🙏
@@CosmoComo-k7p thank you
Well done all! Felt those stingers, and I'm sure they're super-charged this year!
Nice one Gaz, I enjoyed that. These viaducts are monuments of those who came before us that deserve to be celebrated.

What an amazing structure....great vid guys...
Thanks, guys, Phil was on one, wasn't he? It was interesting artwork, and I was thinking that. Shame you couldn't get on top of the viaduct.
Hayup Gareth what a great tunnel I love seeing stuff you’d be hard pushed to do today!
I was wondering whether the viaduct was open at the other end? probably not, one gate stops it being a thoroughfare, can you put in a request for the keys an do a survey of the pointing for the local viaduct commission. Let em know of problem saplings growing out of the sides an all that. Then send in a big bill.
Them nettles perhaps carry an old hessian coal sack if you thread a rope through the base it’s an apron! not a bad look an its railway connected.
Cheers
Fantastic video of another ( nearly) lost masterpiece of engineering Thanks for all you do . I'd love to know how all the bricks and mortar and all the other building needs were transported to the site in 1905 , basically a horse and car era , its nothing short of a miracle really .
@@IZingari it's incredible what they did back them. People were tough.
I was thinking is there any songs about Ballast? That could be used as an intro, errr there is a tune called The Gravel Walk played by Nina Permina, aka Alina Gingertail, an of course Pulp did, This is Hardcore, but I think that was about something else.
Cheers
Only SOMEtimes stickers are worth it, right? Nice architecture
What an absolute disappointment! Especially after getting stung to bits trying to get there. Take a tube if anthisan next time.
