I think the main reason people say BTS isn't a "boy band" is because there tends to be a negative connotation to it and we don't want people to misunderstand the level of artistry. As for not being k-pop, they have even said they're k-pop, but a lot of ARMY are only fans of BTS, not other groups considered k-pop. Also k-pop is a label that again feels a little restrictive, and BTS are global artists. Personally, I don't take offense to either unless it's used in a negative, stereotypical, sort of way.

Well said. They are just labels used to classify certain types of bands, or style of music from a particular country of origin.
As for Rolling Stone's list of "The Greatest Boy Band Songs Of All Time", in includes song by the likes of Metellica, and The Rolling Stones- not groups you would normally associate with the term 'boy band'. There I think they are simply referring to groups that solely have males in their lineups. In that case the term is accurate, and doesn't bear the negative connotations.💜🤔
And considering the other groups on that list, number 5 is an incredible achievement. Nor is it the only BTS song to make the list, there are several others; but moon is definitely the highest.💜

always turn on CC as you will get so much in the lyrics. Plus, Suga and RM rap REALLY fast @times, you will have to pause. Another tip, most of the bigger videos have explanation videos too. Important must watch are Idol, and Spring Day. In fact watch the explanation video for Spring Day first as I have seen many people get in trouble if they don't know what the song is for.

@555Vibes I'm right there with you hun. Most of us are nice, but we do protect our guys. I've had a few that said this video was copyrighted so they Had to put on patreon...which is BS....those are the ones we call Out and spread the word on ,as they are using the guys to make money and that's all...
What you might have missed, many do, is the guys were just kids theirselfs at the time.
12,14,15,16 when they started in 2011 training. JK was really the youngest, from 2011 when he went to the dorm to start training till debuted in 2013 at 15 so yeah, they are family and RM, Jin, Jhope and Suga raised him, Taehyung and Jimin. While they were just teens.
People get all up about they are too physical with each other, it's a different culture, they don't touch the opposite sex, don't make out ,hold hands, kiss like in the USA...yes they are multi talented. Their culture is Education and being the Best in everything you can. It's a big difference than Western ways.
Thank you for your kind reaction, while your watching BTS, Army's will be around. Any question just ask, you'll get an answer.

Don't worry too much about calling them kpop or a boy band. Even BTS has referred to themselves as a kpop boy band. I think what fans mean when they say don't refer to them as both these things is that can be a limiting description for BTS as a group. Even RM has stated he doesn't want to limit their hearts and their music to the term kpop. Like a lot of the stereotypes applied to western boy bands don't necessarily apply to BTS and the same goes for a lot of the stereotypes about kpop in general. Both Jimin and Jungkook are from Busan and it's actually where they performed their last concert with all 7 members before they started to enlist in the military. And fun fact the concert was completely free to attend.
And yes I made it to the end. Trust me ARMY don't care how long BTS reaction videos are. We've watched much longer videos than this one before. I've probably watched this introduction to BTS video at least 50 times (if not more) due to all the reactions I've watched to it. The longest BTS reaction video I've watched was 7 hours long (yes I took breaks), it was a reaction to all their music videos in order.

They are a phenomenon. The right man put together the right boys at the right time and gave them the right platform to shoot to stardom. Their concerts are amazing. They are humble brothers, each unique and enormously multi-talented. If you started watching all their content online you'd still be here next years. While other entertainers "hide" away for their privacy, BTS has put themselves on full display and invited Army into their lives on a near daily basis.. the result is fans (of all ages, from all over the world) consider them friends and love them... it is an interesting concept from start to now. They will be fulfilling their military service obligations through 2025 and intend to come back together!

They are very unique not only in their music, but in the impact they have had on so many people. I have been ARMY since they debuted, first discovering them through their pre-debut vlogs on TH-cam. I had been into Kpop for some years but these guys just intrigued me. Their honesty and openness is unparalleled. They share so much with their fans. I really hope you dive more into their diverse discography as well as watching some of the videos that show their personalities. You mentioned at one point that they are “family” and you are correct. Until very recently all the guys still lived together and have likened themselves to brothers. There is a ton of content out there to watch so I am looking forward to going on this journey with you. Made it to the end, like always, we love watching new people fall for them and realize they are so so much more than your typical boy band. Haven't read through the other comments, but they are currently dropping their solo works as they start trickling into mandatory military service. So far J-Hope, Joon, Jimin, & Yoongi have dropped complete albums, JK & Jin have dropped singles with JK saying a full album is coming later in the year, & Tae is fixing to drop a full album next month. The truth is, a lot of people react to Dynamite or Butter first because those are their most popular, easy to digest songs for new viewers who are not used to K-pop yet.
Even so, most ARMYs are just excited to introduce you to their favorite group and show you why BTS is so important to us, so I hope you don’t take any rude or pushy comments to heart. We’re mostly just excited and happy that you’re interested!

The Most Beautiful Life Goes On: A Story of BTS ( this is about their journey from beginning to present, how they are formed, from their first album to the latest), 2. Xceleste Introduction to BTS (as a group). Continue what you’re doing. You’re doing a good job. See you soon on your next BTS reaction.

71 year old Army here. I think some Armys say that it's not Kpop because BTS has moved beyond Kpop and has become a global phenomenon. They have pretty much left Kpop in the dust and no one in Kpop has come even close to their achievements. Also, their music is very heavy and deep compared to the common superficial poppy stuff. They are on another level and have an very close connection to Army. 💜

They started as a K-POP group and still technically are, but they transcended beyond that and are now worldwide famous. There songs have topped charts all over the world. They have really created a genre all to themselves. Labeling them K-POP should not bother anyone. These seven artistic geniuses began as K-POP artists. I’m sure they are proud of their roots and no doubt their country is proud of them. 💜

Helpful hint for the guide: Not sure if you know.... Korean people used to count age differently to others...
Korean Age vs International Age - difference is 1-2 years depending on if their birthday has been.... In most older videos, including this guide, they are giving Korean ages so you will need to adjust.
So, The members were only 13-18 years old when they became trainees and 15-20 yo when they debuted.
In Korea when you were born you were considered 1 year old. Then on Korean new year every year you added another year to your age, no matter what your birthdate is. ....
Year of birth - International age at Debut on 13June13 (Year and age became trainee)
    Jin 1992 - 20 yo (2011 - 18yo)
    Suga 1993- 20 yo (2011 - 17yo) Suga started with MIDI at 11
    JHope 1994 - 19 yo (2011 - 17yo)JHope started dancing at 8
RM 1994 - 18 yo (2010 - 15yo) RM started rapping at 11 and was well known in the underground scene at 13
    Jimin 1995 - 17 yo (2012 - 16yo)
    V 1995 - 17 yo (2011 - 15yo)
    JK 1997 - 15 yo (2011 - 13yo) JK signed with big hit at 13yo
Rule of thumb for older videos - if it's before their birthday - subtract 2 years to get international age. if it's after their birthday - subtract 1 year to get their international age.
    EG: TaeHyung (V) born 30 Dec 1995 ...... current International Age 27 (Korean Age 29). ... 2 years difference
So Tae born 30 Dec 95 is 1 year old, then on 01 Jan 96 he is 1 more year older (so they would say he is 2 years old, when we would say he is 2 days old.)
So he was considered 29 in Korea since 01 January, we would say he is 27 turning 28 in Dec.
It's a different way of looking at age, from new years day - Tae is living his 29th year (since conception) - instead of - he turned 27 (since birth)....
The Korean Government has recently (June28) brought in international age as the standard in Korea, but all older videos/ interviews/ shows, will be referencing Korean age.
💜Have a great day... sending greetings from Australia.

Made it to the end. We actually do like long videos. We enjoy watching people learn about BTS and become Army.
BTS is family. The brothers lived together for almost 10 years until they finally got their own place in 2020/2021. The youngest is JK and he was 13 years old when he joined. He was basically raised by the older brothers. I personally believe JK is a manifestation of the 6 brothers. He has all their skills.
Here is two links to Army singing Young Forever to BTS. Both have different views but you can hear Army singing. Enjoy.

BTS is incredible. I’m a 40 year old mother who has never been a fan of any boy groups, even back in my teens. In fact, I’ve never been a “fan” of anyone before. I have music I like, of course, but I wasn’t particularly interested in the artist behind it. My husband and I looked up BTS about a year and a half ago because we kept hearing references to them but didn’t know who they were. I can’t even recall what video(s) I watched but I know I watched a few then a few more and then a few more and here I am 😂 Their performances, their lyrics, their personalities, just something about all of it…it’s just FUN. I wish I could remember what my first videos were or knew what my reactions were but I don’t remember anything at all. I just fell down the rabbit hole without even knowing that’s what I was doing.

Hi there you will find the Army will watch anything until the end no matter how long it is.... I would suggest using "enjoy BTS more" if you're interested in watching some of their clips from performances at cetera that will help you avoid copyright issues. Watching official MV from Big Hit is usually no problem as long as you play it from the beginning credits....and please always watch to the end so many reactors cut off and miss the point😢....if you look up lyrics you will find that there is often so much more to their message than meets the eye....and some of their songs have background discussions to explain the Korean meanings and references which add so much.....enjoy going down the rabbit hole💜💜💜💜💜

Here to the end 😊 Enjoyed your reaction and your genuine nature. There's alot of guys in the Army, although majority Wimen. This really a bottom to the top story about 7 humble dudes and their company Big Hit. They did alot of things outside the Idol kpop box that helped to them, which has now become the standard for new Kpop groups (like vlogs from trainee days before debut). Recommend group: Black Swan, On- Kinetic Manifesto, Mic Drop, 1st MV- No More Dream (think some gave the link w/subtitles). They all have Official solo albums if you'd like a list of MV recommendations. 💜

32:00 from 2011 to around 2021 they lived together starting from one room to big house, but they lived 10 years together, they themselves say that they feel like family more than with their own families, thay they spend 360 days a year together. They don't have any sort of jealousy towards eachother and success, cause god knows they have enough fame among eachother they don't need to be envious if someone has a bit more of it. They are the first to support when someone has successful project, or top 1 single or else. Cause in their mind success of one is reflected in success of a group

Thank you for watching and reacting to the Guide! Yes, most ARMYs will make it to the end, as did I. I learned about BTS in March 2022, and have been a 53 year old ARMY ever since then. These young men are each amazingly talented on their own and bring about an unsurpassed level of excellence when put together in this group. I was never into rap, boy bands, or any particular group until I found out about BTS. Now, I just love watching their dance and listening to their music and it has helped to calm me and brought me through some tough times already this year, while healing from A-Fib ablation surgery and from a broken leg surgery. I am so thankful for their sweet music while I was unable to work for a couple months. I hope you will continue this journey and react to more BTS songs.💜Borahae💜

At the end of each of your videos, you could let us know which video/performance you'll react to next, so we can give some suggestions on which version (MV, Live, Mix Stage, etc.) we prefer, or we can give you some background information regarding the song. 💜💜💜

Listening to and watching BTS will always leave you smiling! They are just amazing! Not only are their sound and vocals crazy good but also their choreography and dance skills! It always starts with one or two videos then you are hooked! I recommend Tiny desk concert next then maybe check out some live shows! The energy they give off on stage is ridiculous! I look forward to your next reaction!

There are some upsetting things that werent mentioned in this guide, but im not surprised since it would have been even longer. In 2013, RM used to wear glasses (specifically sunglasses where you couldnt see his eyes) because he used to be ashamed of his eyes and "fans" often made fun of them. Also in 2013, J-Hope also used to wear a mask to cover his lower face because "fans" would make fun of how his face looked. In the end, there was nothing wrong RM's eyes nor Jhopes face. I felt so bad for them during that time, its expected to have hate but that kind of hate was never deserved (hate in general is never deserved). There is more and more than that, if youre planning on reacting to more, you should react to "BTS Hardships 2013-2021" by xCeleste! Love your reactions!

I am new ARMY. I liked the songs I had heard from them but last month, I ended up having a freak infection that was shutting down my organs. I ended up taking a deeper dive into some BTS videos and it became the thing that kept my mind off the pain I was in. Every single song I have heard is incredibly thoughtful and the videos are absolute masterpieces when you get to the ones that all tie together. I feel so dumb for thinking their fanbase only really liked them because they are cute. They are so much more than just their looks. They are all incredible on their own but together, there are really no words to explain the magic they make. PLEASE watch more. They will change you for the better.

25:11 BTS started as part of Kpop but a lot of ARMY’s believe that now they are bigger than kpop for many different reasons. E.g. they release music in many different genres, they produce and write their own music etc. these things are uncommon in kpop. I would say they are a musical band

Stayed right to the end of your video.... 💜💜💜Borahae.
Easiest to think in these terms. K-Pop is an industry . It covers most genres and includes soloists and groups and is a term used mostly in the west to indicate that the artist is from Korea and has music that is popular. In Korea they don't really use the term K-Pop. They call them Idols (or Idol groups). It is not common for Idol groups to write their own music or be so involved in their art. BTS has broken thru the barriers that come with being called "KPop Idols" and have become "Global Artists" instead. That said they are extremely proud towards their country of birth so being referred to as KPop stars does not bother them..
The reason so many ARMY get upset is that it is usually used in a derogatory manner when people just dismiss BTS as some little KPop boyband. As you will find most (not all) of KPop is innane lyrics to boppy tunes and no real substance.
BTS bridges generational boundaries - for instance 5 generations of my family adore these 7 humble young men (from 90 yo grandma to my 2yo grandson)... I've been ARMY since 2016 (I'm 52)
(Mamamoo is another "KPop" group that are incredible "Artists".... 4 woman powerhouse of vocals and visuals - check out their video AYA)

As an ARMY we watch, and love long videos especially if the reactor is paying attention.
Trust me a long video is your least concern.
If you continue this rabbit hole, just know that most of their songs that are Korean are very deep so please turn on the captions, there are even songs that needs explanation videos.
Because there's a lot to decode, the context of the song, the cultural reference, movie reference, psychology books reference, and theories linked in their other music video.
Unlike most songs we hear today, their songs and MV's has an arching story, for example map of the soul which is based on Carl Jung concept of self, which is comprised of PERSONA (the person who you want to be perceived as), SHADOW ( the you you want to hide) and ego (Who you are). And the love yourself album series which composed of HER(Illusion of love), tear (realizing it's fake), and answer (realizing you need to love yourself first).
Take note most their songs may be perceived as typical love songs for a girl but it's actually not.
As an ARMY when hearing a song the first thing I need to do is determine who they are referring to, it could be to an imaginary love interest but it's mostly fans, or society, or themselves, or other members, or haters, etc.
They even impersonate haters sometimes, they like being sarcastic in their songs too. They very rarely flex but when they do, they go hard.
Their works is massive they have a lot of different genre and have a lot of songs.
My favorite ones are their social commentary songs such as strange, Bapsae, am I wrong, ugh, spine breaker, go go and spring day.

Of course I made it to the end. There is nothing we love more than spreading and encouraging the love. I think that BTS has transcended the definition of K pop with all their different genres and talents. In the same way they have outgrown the definition of a boy band. I always say BTS is a boy band like the Beatles were a boy band.....they are more than that.

Won’t even mention how many times we will happily watch people react to this because of how much we love very seeing people learn a bit about the guys. They are humble talented hard working. In a world full of toxic mess and superficial media they offer depth and meaningful wholesome content. They have saved and improved lol cds inspiring their fans to be better and give back to the world. It’s the worst biggest secret why they are popular and it’s not for the usual boy and K-pop reasons. They are needed and unique enjoy the rabbit hole to learn more it’s deep. 😂 💜💜💜

I think the confusion with the terms boy band and K-pop are because BTS breaks the normal stereotypes that we have come to expect when hearing those terms. In literal terms, they are a group of artists who are men in a band but, normally, when we hear boy band we think of singers who don’t have much input into the choices of the songs, visuals, and over-all art of the group. We expect that they have just been given a song and been told what to do. This same association comes to mind when the term k-pop is used. This is not the case for BTS. While they do have, producers, song writers, choreographers on staff, you will find they normally have a large portion if not all of the credit for song creation. They get to pick the direction and subject matter of their art and actually compose and produce songs. You also will see that their albums and songs have a deeper meaning then you would normally expect from a boy band. Mental health, social commentary, anti hate, self love are all common topics.
