    Thank you sooooo much. I’ve asked so many doctors and vegans on TH-cam how I can get iron if I go vegan. I had a ferritin level of 6 and I was nearing organ failure. I had iron infusion every 3 months. But my levels continued to decrease. So I went back to meat. I had not eaten pork and beef for over 14 years but I begin to eat beef again. It seemed like the only thing that worked. I’m going to try the combinations in ur second video. Thank u again. 🥰

    Thank you for this info. I suffer with severe anemia and I have been trying to get my doctors to listen to me on how to get to the root of WHY my body is suffering from this situation. They're immediate solution is surgery but I'm trying to find out what is causing it to be so severe. I believe I produce excess estrogen but they won't green light the tests to prove it. I will have to resort to my diet to lessen the effects until I can find a proper doctor.

    • @drjoetvMD
      @drjoetvMD  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      What type of surgery is being considered?

    • @trishacollymore4397
      @trishacollymore4397 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@drjoetvMD well first a myomectomy was suggested, now they are urging a hysterectomy. I did some research and I inquired about doing a Uterine Artery Embolization...I thought it would be a less invasive procedure but the thought of having foreign materials in my body is disturbing. I'm told the fibroids are large, and in turn so is my uterus now. I've drastically changed my diet since May of this year. I cut out sugar, I didn't realize the effect it was having on the fibroids, I cut out starches, processed foods. I mainly eat fruit, veggies, and meat sometimes. I drink Burdock Root Tea, Bladderwrack Root sometimes. I've lost 30 pounds, and my cycle has shortened from 10 days to 5 days. My last lab showed that my Hemoglobin level was 5.5. They urged me to get a blood transfusion. I said okay, I'll do a direct donation with my son because we are both B+...they are finding every reason under the sun to not complete the paperwork needed. So apparently, they aren't too worried about my health. I am trying to find natural solutions to this issue, before I choose surgery. It's a last resort for me. I strongly believe what is causing the growth of the fibroids is my overproduction of estrogen. I've had multiple iron infusions sessions (sets of 3 2 weeks apart) for a year and a half, but they don't seem to work thoroughly.

    • @drjoetvMD
      @drjoetvMD  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The reason you are constantly anemic is clearly heavy periods from what you have described and the fibroids are the reason your periods are heavy. I am Gynecologist myself and as much as I believe in Lifestyle Medicine, it does have it's limitations. And one limitation is fibroid management. Yes, you have done well sorting out your nutrition but I can tell you surgery is in my opinion the best approach to dealing with fibroids. They are firm uterine growths and lifestyle medicine does very little to shrink them, if at all. Even the conventional medical options like Zoladex, Prostap, Ryeqo lately may achieve a less than modest fibroid reduction. I am not a fan of uterine artery embolization especially for significant size fibroids. Not worth the hassle. I have seen some near fatal consequences of it. Bottom line: the best approach is surgery sadly. Myomectomy if you still have fertility wishes or hysterectomy if your family is complete. My biased view on the subject.@@trishacollymore4397

      @@drjoetvMD I appreciate your insight on the matter. I tried Oriahnn for 6 months. It was okay. It carries a risk of bone density loss so you can't take it more than that time frame. It lessened my flow but also made it unpredictable...and now my joints hurt (smh). It's a difficult decision to make because any surgery has its risks, and unfortunately being a person of color sometimes you don't always receive the level of care you deserve. I appreciate you sharing your view on UAEs, after I talked with a surgeon on how the procedure was actually done...I realized I don't want to chance one of those beads not going to the proper place.

    • @drjoetvMD
      @drjoetvMD  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Whatever agent they choose to use for uterine artery embolization is fairly safe. Gynecologists don't do it (at least in our hospital anyway). It's done by Interventional Radiologists. Those folks are trained to find small arteries with a very fine catheter and shoot the embolizing agent in. There is very little chance of them introducing the agent into the wrong location given the fact they are already inside the selected artery (unless they get the anatomy wrong). That's not the issue. The real issue is how your body deals with the fibroid after you kill it off by depriving it of its blood supply especially a huge fibroid. That process of breakdown is not always straightforward. For small fibroids, that's not a problem but for a good size fibroid, it's a big task for your body to break it down and that's when the proverbial may hit the fan. That unpredictability is why I am not a fan and like I said before I have seen women become really unwell needing ITU care@@trishacollymore4397

    Hi Dr. Joe when making the oatmeal or milk with cacao powder is it okay to use cows milk or what milk would be best so it doesn’t interfere with the absorption?

    • @drjoetvMD
      @drjoetvMD  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I usually advise plant-based milk as opposed to dairy but one of the best things you can do about iron absorption is to use the boosters that help move the needle further with absorption. Watch this th-cam.com/video/6RVZyXB83ds/w-d-xo.html

    I have a question you said that calcium blocks iron, but a lot of these things that you were saying have iron in them some of them give you calcium, so can you please explain or elaborate a little more thank you

    • @drjoetvMD
      @drjoetvMD  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is where it gets a little tricky because it is difficult to separate dietary calcium from the iron in the same food. It is easy to separate supplementary calcium by spacing it out from iron-rich meals but not so when both minerals are in the same food. So in that scenario, we have to rely on the iron absorption boosters to rescue the iron from the calcium blocker. See my video on how to boost iron absorption th-cam.com/video/6RVZyXB83ds/w-d-xo.html Fortunately only a few of the foods (spinach, figs) with high iron also have high calcium. A lot of them are low calcium foods and some don't have calcium. This is why eating a diet that is varied helps with health promotion. Hope that clarifies the enigma for you because it is a nature's enigma

    • @apinchofsweet
      @apinchofsweet ปีที่แล้ว

      The reason why I was asking is because my daughter has an anemia problem and she hast to get transfusions and I’m trying to figure out a way that she can get her iron and with the smoothie that’ll work but the only issue I had was the calcium because you said it was a calcium blocker, because some foods do have calcium

    • @drjoetvMD

      It's because liver meat and liver products like liver sausages, liver pate have very high levels of vitamin A. In particular a type of vitamin A called retinol which potentially can lead to miscarriage or birth defects in the baby

      Low blood pressure is not necessarily a bad thing especially in pregnancy. We worry about high BP in pregnancy. Not low BP. By the way, your BP is supposed to be at its lowest in the 2nd trimester i.e between 14 weeks and 26 weeks. That's a normal physiological event in pregnancy. Don't fight it

      If you have excess Iron in the body, the best solution is to submit yourself to planned and deliberate bleeding. The doctors will order you to have blood-letting done in a planned and controlled manner to bring your iron levels down over time. See a Haematologist for this. Unlikely food will help you deal with this. You can certainly avoid eating iron-rich foods but it probably won't be enough to solve the problem
