Thank you Dr. for explaining that you do not want to consume your high Calcium foods together with your High iron foods. I grew up in Israel because my father worked there. Everyone back in the 1970's eat Kosher . Even if they did not have a Kosher kitchen set up in their tiny apartment the majority of people just never combined any Dairy ( High Calcium ) with any Meat ( High Iron) . Even I followed the guidelines of eating Dairy : Yogurt with honey or fruit and granola . Cheese with eggs in an omlet or cheese sandwich ( Rye bread ) with butter or cream cheese sandwich with red peppers or cucumber For Meat dishes spices like cumin and tumeric were used to slow cook meats and tomatoes and Articokes ( when in season ) were thrown whole on top of the stewing meat. fresh salads of diced tomatoes and cucumbers dressed with fresh lemon juice and Olive oil or red peppers seared over the gas stove flame and peeled and dressed with the same ( Vitamin C ) lemon juice and olive oil were always served with the meat dish. So the lemon juice based salads helped absorb the Iron with the beef and lamb stews. Everyone was very slim back in the 1970s !!! No one ate Pork except the American tourists. No one back then would think of eating a Cheese Burger ! No one ate bacon - though your could buy it. Everything back then was made from scratch. The dairy and eggs were of a high quality. I do not feel that is the case today in Israel as too many packaged foods have flooded all stores internationally. I am going back to eating th Kosher style of Not Combining Meat with Dairy as this is the biggigest mistake I made when returning to the Standard American Diet : SAD. Thank you for explaining how Iron absorption really works. God Bless you.

Thank you. Your presentation was straightforward and easy to understand. I appreciate your explanation of what to avoid and what to consume with iron rich food in order to enhance absorption.
Thank you Dr. Joe 👍 I have low iron at 6 and supplement constipate me so will try yours tips ! Did not know about coffe 😳👍 Sorry to ask here, but my husband has really bad psoriasis, you have a video on that ? And where are you located. Thanks from bottom of my heart for helping peoples 🙏
No, I don't have a video on psoriasis. For a start, your husband should avoid dairy of all types - one tip for him. I'm actually located a little bit of a distance from you. The UK. Sorry about that
Thanks for sharing this. I'm adding all of those to my list!!! I've had low iron for 2 years now(I've only known for 2), it dropped to barely above anaemic. I'm desperately trying to increase it as I feel it effects my general health and fitness. Especially my vo2max.
As usual...this is profound Dr Joe👍. I have moderate anaemia and i depend on iron supplements. So this presentation speaks to me...very valuable informatiom, thank you.
Looking forward to boosting my iron level up with his video. It popped up for a reason because I've been iron deficient now for a year for the first time in my life. Was taking iron pills but stopped due to constipation. I will now began again with the help of this video. Thank you Dr.
I fall because of vertigo. I was told iron helps that. And I get constipated too. Then it feels like get buggy butt syndrome. Or today I did as a result. Like delirium. Like my eyeballies are marbles spinning like coins. Water with some vinegar helped.
Thank you Dr. Joe for all your wonderful teaching. I love greens like amaranth and kale etc. I always eat them together with my beans and other iron rich foods. Do you think the calcium in the green inhibits the absorption of iron. My iron levels are always low to the point that I had to have iron infusion done. Now the doctor is saying I need another one. The second question is if one implements the points you have stated how quickly does it take for the iron to go up to normal levels?
It's difficult to say how quickly you can get your iron levels up as everyone is different and absorption issues play a big part in all of this even with oral supplements. Iron replenishment is a slow process generally speaking. You just can't rush it unfortunately. The quickest route is the iron infusion as it bypasses absorption barrier. The other thing you need to look into is why do your iron levels keep dropping perpetually? Apart from dietary issues which of course is tied to absorption, there could be other reasons. For instance, women having heavy periods monthly is an often ignored cause. Something like that needs to be sorted out too
He should make merch with “how about??” Cuz I’m mind blown 🤯 at these food pairings and I look forward to eliminating my anemia once and for all. Too many years of the struggle linked to the female cycles.
Thank you, Veronica. I'm also thinking you are referring to heavy menstrual loss monthly. If that's the case, then you need to fix that too please. I talk about turning that faucet off. You have to if you want to win because it would appear you have been suffering a good number of years
Thank you Dr Joe This video is so helpful to me since my iron been low for a long time now but I will try your remedies...you are like a breath of frezh air
Hello, I agree with all the plant based suggestions . Shell fish are unclean and also high in contaminates . I wouldn’t recommend . Everything else was A+++😊
Some people cannot assimilate iron from taking supplements. I tried everything and gave up because iron supplements was causing constipation. What worked for me is brewer’s yeast. My anemia is gone since I take brewer’s yeast but not just anemia but also weakness in my joints, brain fog, fatigue.
This video helps a lot😢. I've been diagnosed with severe anaemia, I've been given pills to supplement this condition along with vitamin c but i also wanted to do my part and eat right😢
The same principles apply to ferritin, Jane. Ferritin is simply the storage form of Iron in the body. Whatever you do to restore Iron levels will restore ferritin as well
Hello doctor Thankyou so much for this video 🙏 very useful information and I have a question What is different between iron level and ferritin level? Because my overall iron level is okay but ferritin level is too low
Ferritin refers the storage level of iron in your body (how good your iron stores are) and iron level refers to how much iron you have in your red blood cells
Thank you so much dr Joe,I have to daughters and a friend with iron problem,I'm grateful for this video just on time when I need it...I'm sharing it to them ...
I saw one of Yr vids about 2 year's ago, I found it very helpful along with this one so I'm a new subscriber. Thanks for sharing Yr great work with us Brother. All the very best.
I had two different nurses and one doctor insist that orange juice is the best way to get vitamin c with high iron foods. When I asked if there was a lower carbohydrate way to get vitamin c they all looked at me like I was crazy. No wonder everybody is diabetic nowadays. One doctor I saw recently suggested that it wouldn't make a difference if I give up blood donations until I get my ferritin back up. Thank you for your informative video Dr. Joe
A lot of my colleagues are fairly ignorant about nutrition, so your story doesn't surprise me one bit, Judy. The ignorance out there is staggering and I am not being disrespectful, just stating the facts. But it's not their fault though, it's our training in medical school that is to blame.
Thanks for this Dr. Joe.. Very helpful. Could you please do a series of videos on 1. UTI ...my family member had it without knowing it..it got bad to the point of pressure drop/ shock. I Didn't know UTIs can be dangerous. Please help us and do a video on this.. 2. Brain tumours.. One I am interested in understanding is the one on the brain stem. As I have a family member with it.. Thanks
@@dinydgeraldine3254 Diny, I am not a big fan of supplements with combined nutrients. Prefer stand-alone nutrient supplements. If combined, it shouldn't be more than 2 nutrients. 27mg of iron should be fine as some of that iron may not be absorbed and you should get some iron from your foods too
@@dinydgeraldine3254 By the way, I just realized you have calcium in that preparation. Like I said in the video, calcium blocks iron absorption. So the iron in that supplement is probably not getting absorbed. It underscores my point about combination supplements. I will dump that supplement if you ask me
Thank you! My iron, ferritin and hemoglobin levels are very low due to low iron levels. I am scheduled for more infusions but they don't seem to last more than a few months. I am going to be using this information moving forward in my diet, and hopefully the weakness and dizziness can be minimized.
Has your doctor made any attempt to find out why your iron level is consistently low? I know someone who had low iron levels, low enough to require regular iron infusions, that turned out to be caused by low grade internal bleeding that was the result of gluten intolerance. Once this person went gluten free, they had no more problems with low iron.
@@jennyfreemantle1925 Beyond standard testing, no. They found I do have a hiatal hernia but I also have high pulmonary BP so they are afraid to proceed with surgery. Numerous tests have found no internal bleeding. I asked about an h. pylori infection but they won't even consider it. I will ask about gluten intolerance, I was not aware that could be an issue, thank you!
Thank you dr. Very well said and very well combined the food combinations cuz you don't think about that when you taking supplements or combinations of food❤😊
I don't take iron sulphates, i don't do metal. I don't use lemons, i use burdock, yellow dock, real plant base akaline iron. I have never felt better. I sleep well, i wake up not stiff, i wake up alive. I also use minerals.
Ideally fresh tomatoes, Evelyn. It's difficult to say tomato paste has its vitamin C content intact because don't forget it is a processed food item, so no guarantees there
Thanks Doc. I like this video. Cannot eat soy products ( tofu and edamame) they make me feel sick. I like the combinations and thank you for showing us how caffeine stops iron absorption in the body. Coffee on its own in my body makes me feel sick, however when I consume coffee with protein ( eggs) , I feel great! Why would this be?

You're very welcome, Said
Thank you so much for such a well informed clear and precise video ... Will put this into practice immediately 😊
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you. Your presentation was straightforward and easy to understand. I appreciate your explanation of what to avoid and what to consume with iron rich food in order to enhance absorption.
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you Dr. Joe 👍
I have low iron at 6 and supplement constipate me so will try yours tips ! Did not know about coffe 😳👍
Sorry to ask here, but my husband has really bad psoriasis, you have a video on that ?
And where are you located.
Thanks from bottom of my heart for helping peoples 🙏
No, I don't have a video on psoriasis. For a start, your husband should avoid dairy of all types - one tip for him. I'm actually located a little bit of a distance from you. The UK. Sorry about that
@@drjoetvMD Thanks again 👍
Thanks for sharing this. I'm adding all of those to my list!!!
I've had low iron for 2 years now(I've only known for 2), it dropped to barely above anaemic. I'm desperately trying to increase it as I feel it effects my general health and fitness. Especially my vo2max.
You're welcome
WOW - literally the best video I have seen on this topic, thank you 🙏 this is wonderful.
You're very welcome, Claudia
I loved how you put the foods together to make a complete meal! This helps a lot 😊
Thank you for appreciating
Thank you Dr. Joe for another very informative video. You are so appreciated!
You're welcome, Gerri
As usual...this is profound Dr Joe👍. I have moderate anaemia and i depend on iron supplements. So this presentation speaks to me...very valuable informatiom, thank you.
You're welcome, Bernadene
I was prescribed iron tablets and it prolonged my period so now i will focus on food@drjoetvMD
Looking forward to boosting my iron level up with his video. It popped up for a reason because I've been iron deficient now for a year for the first time in my life. Was taking iron pills but stopped due to constipation. I will now began again with the help of this video. Thank you Dr.
You're welcome
take your iron tablets at night with lots of water or orange juice
I fall because of vertigo. I was told iron helps that. And I get constipated too. Then it feels like get buggy butt syndrome. Or today I did as a result. Like delirium. Like my eyeballies are marbles spinning like coins. Water with some vinegar helped.
@@lindathompson8389 thank you, I will
@@yolandagrabowski6043what u did drink water with vinigar
Something like that needs to be sorted out too
i can’t live with out white beans it all over my house. combining with guinness..Thanks again Dr Joe🌹
You're welcome, Riziki
He should make merch with “how about??” Cuz I’m mind blown 🤯 at these food pairings and I look forward to eliminating my anemia once and for all. Too many years of the struggle linked to the female cycles.
Thank you, Veronica. I'm also thinking you are referring to heavy menstrual loss monthly. If that's the case, then you need to fix that too please. I talk about turning that faucet off. You have to if you want to win because it would appear you have been suffering a good number of years
Thank you Dr Joe
This video is so helpful to me since my iron been low for a long time now but I will try your remedies...you are like a breath of frezh air
Glad it was helpful! Anna

Hello, I agree with all the plant based suggestions . Shell fish are unclean and also high in contaminates . I wouldn’t recommend .
Everything else was A+++😊
Thank you, Rachelle
good morning Dr Joe . Thank you for sharing 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
You're welcome, Bertine
Thanks, was suffering severe anemia. This is educating and uplifting. Tools to help me not get back in that unpleasant position again.
Awesome. Glad to be of help, Jane
@@veronical3135 I didn’t knew that joint pain, brain fog can also be caused because of anemia. I have all this symptoms and I am anemic
how do you use brewer yeast?
Thanks so much Dr Joe. Very helpful and informative.
You're welcome
I had to laugh at the end when you were signing OUT!!! So cute❣️
It's my usual closure phrase in all my videos sadly. When folks hear that, they know it's over. Thank you for appreciating it
This was so helpful! I appreciate the practicality of the food combination examples. Easy to execute immediately. Thank you so much.

Thank you
Thank you Dr. for those practical examples ... 👍🏽
Glad you like them!
This video helps a lot😢. I've been diagnosed with severe anaemia, I've been given pills to supplement this condition along with vitamin c but i also wanted to do my part and eat right😢
And yes, you should do that too
Great video. What about a video on low ferritin?
The same principles apply to ferritin, Jane. Ferritin is simply the storage form of Iron in the body. Whatever you do to restore Iron levels will restore ferritin as well
Hello doctor Thankyou so much for this video 🙏 very useful information
and I have a question
What is different between iron level and ferritin level? Because my overall iron level is okay but ferritin level is too low
Ferritin refers the storage level of iron in your body (how good your iron stores are) and iron level refers to how much iron you have in your red blood cells
Thank you so much dr Joe,I have to daughters and a friend with iron problem,I'm grateful for this video just on time when I need it...I'm sharing it to them ...
And also be on the look out for next week's video. I've got some more stuff on the topic
Excellent video with practical suggesstions 👍
Thank you

I do enjoy all your videos, was wondering if you could do one how to treat acid reflux.
Maybe at some point
@@drjoetvMD thank you, cant wait because.

You are a life saver. I am glad I found your channel
Thank you
I had two different nurses and one doctor insist that orange juice is the best way to get vitamin c with high iron foods.
Thanks Dr Joe Gods blessings I learned a lot of how to incorporate my foods
You're welcome, Veronica
Thank you Dr Joe - crystal clear and easy to follow and understand.. thank you so much and God bless you richly
You're welcome
Thanks for this Dr. Joe.. Very helpful.
Could you please do a series of videos on
Thanks
Okay.
Research on cranberry capsules, good for UTI
How can you have a UTI without knowing it, what kinda dumb dumb are they 😭
That’s mean
D-Mannose
Wonderfully explained...straight to the point !
Thank you
👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👍🏽❤️tons of information in just one video: thank you Dr Joe!
Please Dr Joe! What do you think about a supplement that has: iron-27mg, calcium-400mg and vitamin C 120mg? Thanks!
You're welcome, Diny
@@dinydgeraldine3254 Diny, I am not a big fan of supplements with combined nutrients. Prefer stand-alone nutrient supplements. If combined, it shouldn't be more than 2 nutrients. 27mg of iron should be fine as some of that iron may not be absorbed and you should get some iron from your foods too
@@drjoetvMD Really! thank you Dr Joe.
@@dinydgeraldine3254 By the way, I just realized you have calcium in that preparation. Like I said in the video, calcium blocks iron absorption. So the iron in that supplement is probably not getting absorbed. It underscores my point about combination supplements. I will dump that supplement if you ask me
Love the examples of how to apply practically.
Glad it was helpful!
Creat video thanks for the tips on iron absorption Doc
You're welcome
Very informative. Wished I had seen this two years ago. ❤
Thank you
Thank you Doctor Joe,very informative,I learn something new
You're welcome, Elvina
Thank you! My iron, ferritin and hemoglobin levels are very low due to low iron levels. I am scheduled for more infusions but they don't seem to last more than a few months. I am going to be using this information moving forward in my diet, and hopefully the weakness and dizziness can be minimized.
You're welcome
You're most welcome
I don't take iron sulphates, i don't do metal. I don't use lemons, i use burdock, yellow dock, real plant base akaline iron. I have never felt better. I sleep well, i wake up not stiff, i wake up alive. I also use minerals.
Thank you
Dr. Joe, is it ok to use tomato paste (lycopene) to vegetable dishes to boost iron absorption? Thanks.
Ideally fresh tomatoes, Evelyn. It's difficult to say tomato paste has its vitamin C content intact because don't forget it is a processed food item, so no guarantees there
An enlightening tutorial, Dr. Joe. I keep most of those combinations, now to put them together. 👍😊🌴
Good idea
Hi Dr Joe ..what can we include with Nettles as they are high in iron ..would lemons do? Thank you for this highly educative video
Yes, lemon has vitamin C, so it's fine.
I can't explain except to say maybe the protein dampens down the side effects of the coffee on your body
Thank you doc best explanation I found 🥰
My pleasure
This should be discussed and talked about with women especially by our primary care.,
True
Thank you very much for the information dr Joe ❤❤
You're welcome
