  • I really like this technique as it enables you to draw freely, loosely and expressively.

I find the blurred and varying shade of the trace monotype lines help me visualise abstract compositions.
I am currently researching colour theory and am very into creating colour fields, which these shapes are perfect for.
I have created a few paintings from this technique using soft pastels, oil pastels and a poor attempt with water mixable oil paints.
I used plexiglass from a picture frame, brayer and water soluble block printing ink.
    I hope you enjoy.

    Thank you, Kirsten.
Trace monotype is new to me.
Your initial pronunciation of Bauhaus was correct: Bau rhymes with haus.

Hi Sonya, thank you! I’ve watched so many documentaries on it, yet I couldn’t be sure.
The block printing ink is new to me, so I’m sure I was wasting a lot of it with the method I chose. I’ve read quite a few blogs from Pinterest on it. I’ve seen some lovely work, I just need to get the method more consistent before I can do some nice prints.
But I like the freeness of it.
Dan Tirels TH-cam channel does a lot of monotypes with plastic bags and paint. He’s very good.

Good evening Kirsten 🥰, I enjoyed your video, because it reminded me of playing around with this method with a friend: Each of us drew lines on a piece of paper. Then we exchanged them and each of us started to fill the inner spaces with a color (We used colored pencils), the thick ones for children). When one of us had completed a field, we changed back (no matter, if the other had filled her space already. After that each of us could decide to complete the field with the same color or blend it with another one.We got some very special pictures.
The way you used the plexiglass really stunned me, because of the quality of the lines.( It´s not easy for me to describe that in english) Could I say they lose their sharpness? That´s inspiring for the next steps. The color could grow from the outlines into the centre of each field. i must try that some time. But right now my garden keeps me really busy ... Have a nice time with further experiments, Kirsten 🤩. XO Briita

Good evening to you too Britta, your garden must be beautiful. I remember my nanas garden, it was full of fruit, veg and flowers. She lived in wales, it was her priority too. I really should do some gardening, our weathers still wintry unfortunately.
I like this passing around of the artwork. I’m going on a family holiday in September with kids, their husbands and grandkids (ages 1-31). This gives me good ideas for then.
I hope you’re enjoying the gardening Britta ❤️

@@quirkyqueens Here´s another game for your holiday: Two people. Both, sitting side by side, with one hand at the same!!! pencil. 😧 😂 The challenge: No talking. On the same!! sheet of paper: First draw a house, a sun, then a tree, then an animal. Remember: No talking! The first try is usually a "fight" and the result hilarious. The second try turns out more civilized 🤣 It´s a wonderful way to learn social "behaviour". Have lots of fun my dear 😘🥰 Concerning gardening: I will mail you a photo, when there are more leaves on the bushes... Britta

I’m not familiar with the surface your using? What is it? Also, are Lino inks dif from acrylic?

    • @quirkyqueens
      @quirkyqueens  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

Yes they are. The surface is called a gel plate. You can use Lino inks and acrylics on it.

Thank you for reminding me of this gentle technique that I haven't used for several years. This afternoon I got out my glass worktop saver and some ink and had a lovely hour of creating some papers for collage.

Hi Diana, apologies for the late reply. This is the perfect description for trace monotype. I’d like to create a little sketchbook of trace monotypes, using a glass plate that is smaller to give a nice frame around it.
I think, even if you drew quite aggressively, it would still look gentle.
