  • Hi, in this video I look at a Ford Ranger with a 2.2L diesel, it has a misfire under load. The truck has no fault codes so I used a scope with amp clamps and a pulse sensor to figure out what is wrong with this engine.
    thanks for watching.

Hi , I seen a diesel tech use a small ball bearing between the injector and supply pipe to block off fuel to each injector until he found the faulty one low tech i know but it worked a treat , thanks for the uploading the video always learn something when watching your channel . John

Hi John, the ball bearing method is a very effective way of doing it. I find it helps when there is too much leak off going back to the tank that the common rail can't reach enough pressure to start the engine.
Thanks for watching and your comment.

Thanks Dave, the garage didn't want to send the injectors away for testing if the scope could point out the injector that misfires under load. I just had to get my head around how I was going to do the test. Thanks mate

I have one on my other laptop and every time I use this one I remember that I haven't downloaded it. I really should get it on there. Using a synch from the companion cylinder helps with the exhaust pulse for now. Thanks

I think it was 200 mS when cranking and 50 ms running. The pulse sensor was 2 volts AC, the amp clamps I used the drop down menus although for the relative compression I used a hantec 650 amp clamps and I chose the Pico 600 amp clamps on the screen so it will be slightly higher amperage than it looked on the screen.
