the point of Free Company Militias is for when you need additional units in upmost urgency, which is why a Free Company unit can be raised in a single turn in the campaign.
Also they are pretty neat if you can place the min an enemy flank and let them rip with their pistols before helping breaking them with a charge.

Free company militia can do a good job if you have two to a flank and spears to cover. Can quickly get a flank on enemies front line and chase of AI ranged. With general buffs to missile damage they dont shred but they can whittle. At high difficulty when even gobbo spears shred empire basic infantry, a melee unit that has a ranged option can be much more effective. Still need a back line of damage dealing ranged though.
I think Great Swords and Demigryph so good cause they avenge the poor performance of the Gothic Knights in Medieval 2 Total War. For Kaiser!
A way to make the Free Company Milita viable at least in campaign ... make them the unit u can recruit without recruitment bulding instead of spearmen, would make MUCH more sense :D

I started playing mass Handgunners: use Spears to protect your flank and heros like Captain or Warpriest as frontline.
The AI will blob around your 3 or 4 Heros and u can just let your Handunners (and Hellstorm) target them. Well, you will hit your own guy, but heyy, its just one dude on his own, so you will deal ways more damage to the enemy...
and, of course: Light Wizzard and some spare units help to keep your Gunners safe
Or line the front lines in 35 angle. Make straight holes between your front line allowing protection and free damage for handgunners

They're a unit that defines "I've lost control of my life."
It's funny the level of disparity when it comes to Free Company's usefulness in campaign vs Multiplayer. Campaign they're kinda unnecessary but in MP they can be useful in a number of matchups especially against light armored factions like the Vamps, GS, and Skaven. Wonder what other peoples opinions of having units being more useful in one game mode vs another.
+Ricardo Valdes a few people have told me this but I was focusing on campaign as a pretty much never play multiplayer. Of course a lot of units can work if you use the right strat but for this video I’m trying to go for a beginners guide. Hope you enjoyed the video!
I didn't use to get militia in the past as I thought they were crap but I must say I chose to give them a try during a campaign and they did surprisingly well.
Of course they become shit late game but they are quite efficient early/mid game. I've honestly won battles I thought I would lose with them eventually having one of the best kills count.
However I agree to say that they are very situational and their efficiency strongly depends on the enemy/the terrain.
@@Casimir2811 FCM being good at melee makes them one of the best flanking infantry units early on in the campaign. They also take down monsters quickly and have enough punching power to severely damage enemies if they get around the lines.
Why do my greatswords get less kills against orc boys than swordsman?

Honestly, it's always been the same for me, especially in the first Total War: Warhammer game.
I use greatsword units as reinforcers for lines that are breaking. ie; Four groups of spearmen beside each other, one on the far right is being thinned out, I would send over the greatswords to help them.
A good tip i've always used, is to have two "elite", or your "best" on standby, to either reinforce the standard units like spearmen and swordsmen, or to flank and attack the enemy from the side or back.
Horseback grenade launchers are such an insane idea, I love this universe
Seeing your preference for melee armies indeed the choice of greatswords makes sense. Putting more hellstorm rockets would make your life easier though, since 4 of them can snipe any late game infantry and most cavalry units. Also, since melee armies suffer more casualties, try pairing a battle priest for more regen.
My pick for a melee imperial army:
4 greatswords;
2 halberdiers;
2 handgunners;
2 steamtanks;
3 hellstorm rockets;
2 hellblasters volley guns;
2 outriders;
Lord;
Battlepriest (disciplined);
Wizard of your choosing(disciplined).
P.S.: may change the handgunners for demigriphs of your choosing if you prefer more melee and shock cav, I usually go for a more ranged army

Great vid!. Just to add you do not have to have handgunners to go around. If you line up your front line in sideways like / / / / this handgunners can fire between the front lines easily.
Tbh we need an updated version of this guide considering how much has changed with the Empire.

SO a little trick with the Free company. They are amazing in the very early game due to the high weight giving to them in early Auto resolve battles. Other then that they are useless.

Thanks a lot mate! Probably not as I dont really play multiplayer and (IMO) its much harder to build a stat against real people as they're a lot less predicatable than AI. I'd also consider MP to be a more advanced thing than campaign and these guides are more for beginners to the series.

Swordsman as a holder? I use them as a flankers and use spearmen and halbadiers as holders due to defensive bonus. That works at least in campaing on normal difficulty
I always found the Free Company to be excellent early game Orc and Vampire killers. Gobbos and Zombies have zero hope of catching them and they make absolute mincemeat of them. I like to send them into VC territory and just wipe out their early game zombie and skeleton stacks. Plus they make for a fun change to the usual spears, swords and crossbows early game armies. Definitely worth considering for a cheap army.

Use knoghts of the bpazing sun against wood elf, undead units, and units with regeneration they apply fire damage. This does bonus damage
you said it right the first time 'Fla - gel - ants' (think of hair gel). They are also a bit better and cheaper if you take them with Volkmar as your LL choice in the campaign. Btw hellblasters are actually really good, they are best used against heavily armoured units like heavy cav. or black orcs. They are limited by terrain however, as they can only shoot in straight lines. They are much better following a series of improvements in recent patches..

I'm going to completely disagree about your Hellblaster Volley Gun assessment. Not only do they do more damage than the Helstorm Rocket Battery, but they are also many times more accurate.
The inaccuracy of the hellstorm is a strength
I have zero idea how to win battles with the empire. Spearmen have an attack 20 and defense 42 while orc boys have attack 28 and defense 28 and still every time they destroy my frontline no matter how much I bring, If i bring too much infantry I dont have enough missiles units and if I bring too much missile then I dont have enough infantry and the front breaks before my crossbows can do any damage.
The computer does the same thing every time starts their formations in one long line and then sends all its flying monsters and cav towards my missile units, my archers dont have enough to stop them and if I send my infantry to stop them then the front line breaks. Ive had this game for like 3 years and cannot successfully play as the empire.
Then I play Rome 2 on Legendary and think "ah this is what a real total war is like"
seriously I have zere how to win battles there is zero room for RP in this game its all these units beat these units but this unit beats that units and this unit beats this one like rock paper scissors.

I still have no idea how to build an empire army. I keep getting my ass kicked in campaign and without access to the higher tier units, I'm not sure what to use.
I'm using the SFO mod but the helblaster volley guns seem to get much more kills than the other artillery, I'd recommend them over great cannons against large due to their accuracy. Bonus Vs large isn't necessary with the damage and armour piercing values tbh.

Don't use Calveley on higher difficulty is all im going to say, and the inaccuracy of hellstorms area strength
When it comes to steam tanks i replace them with war wagons. 2-3 units along with 2 mortars worked well placing steam tanks on left , right and if there is third one then in middle just behind infantry units, then mortars further away from lines between gaps
I have 2 questions. Is the graphics for the game changed in warhammer 2, since my empire units doesn´t look this good and doesn´t have these colors, (that are true to the table top versions), in warhammer 1. And in warhammer 1the Hellstorm Rocket Battery is not armour piercing, did they change this for warhammer 2 as well?

@@ColonelDamneders But seriously, I've read comments about people wanting to play as individual units in Warhammer. Customizing equipments only available in PvE Co-Op. In PvP, "standard weapons" from each classes only. I'll add Warframe on the PvE part.

Free Company Militia chew through other State Troops, especially when micro'd.
Early game I put one unit on each flank, the first to curl in and shoot enemies.
Knights of the Blazing Sun are _really_ good against Wood Elf Treemen. And of course the Vampires but by the time you unlock them the Vampires should be dead already.
The Tomb kings get their power from their constructs, anything can deal with the skelly chaff.
I really want to like these but I can't get over how fast you talk. Slow down! It destroys any usefulness these videos can offer.

+Finest Fellaz early game empire I’d probably go a butt load of swords and cross bows, a couple spears then some cav either ranged or melee depending on your preference. If you can get mortars then do because they’re super good for when you unlock them
