    peasant mobs is a decent choice in early game if you mainly focus on letting your cavalry do the damage, having them take on the brunt of the first charge, and then your knights do a frontal charge against the enemies ensure massive amount of damage dealt while providing a better survival chance for your knights if you are afraid of being sandwiched while flanking, which happen a lot for new players. Plus, they can be recruited anywhere with a farm, so you don't have to worry much about losing a unit or two. Bretonnia focuses mainly on cavalry, so for me their infantries are only good for delaying at best and be meatshield at worst no matter what type

    From my experience in the campaign, I think its better to ditch out infantry all together in the late game and use melee cavalry as frontline. I don't know if they have been nerfed, but in my campaign with Couronne, I got one of the most OP armies I have ever had in Warhammer I or II. It consisted of 7 Grail guardians in the front, 6 Grail Knigts (3 on each side) , 3 Royal Pegasus, 3
    royal hippogryph knights and Louen in Beaquis. Even in the last battle against chaos I was so overpowered that the chaos armies got destroyed in seconds, like 1 o two charges and they were gone.

    Hi Colonel,
    Bretonnia has always been my favourite faction and this is an excellent guide. Would you always recommend using the ROR's perhaps it is my previous total war experience that I rarely use mercenaries finding them expensive however their upkeep doesn't look that bad.

    • @ColonelDamneders
      @ColonelDamneders  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +johnp4000 I see RoR as always being worth taking as long as you’d have the base unit in your army. They often get great bonuses and are max experience but are rarely better than superior units. For example in the empire the deathjacks are archers but I don’t bother with them if I have crossbows are higher as they just aren’t worth it

    • @leadpaintchips9461
      @leadpaintchips9461 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@ColonelDamneders Deathjacks are fantastic for arty sniping in campaign. Like if I could get more than one of them, I'd throw a unit of them in every army that is going to face arty because they just tear them a new hole.
      There are some RoR that are not just a straight upgrade, but have a different battlefield use. Like regular archers we want to replace asap, but the Deathjacks are good to keep around for said arty sniping regardless of how late the game is. Better to have them tearing into the arty than trying to out flank their cav and *then* dealing with their arty. Better to have the cav part of your army dealing with the front line and just sending this one unit to deal with all of their arty. Bretonnia's RoR though are just straight upgrades, so this really doesn't apply to them.
      Also, most of the time I don't actually recruit the RoR because of them being insta recruitable, so I keep them in reserve for 'oh poop' moments where I need to raise an army super quickly.

    • @ColonelDamneders

    My general all purpose army consists of: lord - occasioly a damsel or paladin - 7-8 men at arms (assorted) - 5-6 cav (usually one mounted bowmen) and the rest bowmen. Standard medievil two army lol peasant bowmen aren't the best but when you focus fire you obliterate anything in your path
    Higher up dukes I confederate with (Bohemond, Chilfroy, Alberic, Adalhard) obviously get a few tastes of flying cav as well but only if they have the corresponding vows unlocked. By the late game I like to get a full stack of paladins too all on pegs... amazing siege battles, especially if you are trapping an army in the settlment too.

    Bretonnia needs a serious buff, its infantry is pretty mediocre, i guess you could buff battle pilgrims so that they have organized lines and more melee defence (the reason why it’s important for organized lines is so because organized lines can absorb cav charges easily. And like add a shielded varient of foot squires. And add longbow unit, with 180 range and armour piercing and is no longer inaccurate.

      @vanlao6367 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      it doesn't have to be micro intensive unless you make it happen yourself. Bretonnia is actually pretty straight forward like the Empires: they have variety of cavalries fit for different roles.
      You see the enemy having lots of armors ? bring knights of the realm and questing knights and see them mowing down those armors.
      You see the enemies having lots of large unit ? bring pegasus knights/gryphine knights and see those large units get melted down.
      Grail knights are the best for every situation: they are immune to stamina, they have magical attack that bypass armor, they hit like a truck, they are immune to psychological horror and they have decent attack/defense stats. If you get access to grail knights, you can forget about other knight units aside from flying cavs.

      use ranged units like pox archers and trebuchets to thin out the melee lines to make it easier for your infantry lads. use cav that is better in sustained melee to fight other cav if you keep getting bogged down. these will be the swords units rather than lances. I'm no pro with the roster but I hope this helps!

    • @vanlao6367
      @vanlao6367 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You'll never win against chaos in infantry battle as Brettonnia, so instead use your infantries to delay enemy as long as possible. Spear men-at-arm (shielded) are the best due to their high defense rating, and if you use them together with blessed trebuchets ( no friendly fire), they can allow the trebuchets to do the killing for you. Questing knights are pretty good against most shock cavalries due to their high attack/defense rating and they have armor-piercing damage which is good against chaos generally. 3 stacks of peasant archers with poison attack can wipe out even the toughest chaos S.O.B. If they have anything bigger than a horseman, use pegasus knights/ gryphine knights to cycle charge that big boy, because those knights are better at killing big enemies than knights of the realm.

    Sounds ridiculous?
    Well, if you charge into the enemy and then dance around them *just* out of their range, you can get them chasing the cav and ignoring the trebuchets.
    Heavy micro, but pretty much guarantees victories even when massively outnumbered. A single army can take on 3.
    Feels dumb because you're exploiting the AI, but oh well.
    You can have the heroes on pegasi target enemy ranged units while your cav just lead the mass of enemies around and get them all nice and bunched up for the trebuchets to just rinse through them.
    Micro a box so you're charging around in a square and they'll bunch up.

    I feel like your army list doesn't truly play to the faction's strengths. Your army should be basically all cavalry. Try 6 questing knights, 2 grail guardians, 2 grail knights, 4 pegasus knights, 2 hippogryph knights, 2 foot squires or trebuchets, whichever you prefer, and a lord on hippogryph and mounted damsel. You send your qk straight up the middle, grail guardians into any particularly strong units, gks round the side to wipe out enemy cav/monsters, pegasus knights straight into archers, and hippos to focus on any particularly sticky targets or to terror rout trash.

      Patrick Ellis how do you win siege battles with an army like that? Pegasus and hippogrypg knights are good on the walls, but the tend to get tied down and get a lot of damage. Other cav units can’t climb walls and you need to wait for quite a bit until your catapults make holes in the walls and since Bretonnian trebuchets are so bad, you need at least 2 of them to effectively break dowb walls and towers

    Use your generals and heros to lead out and draw enemy fire rather than cav units or any other units. Your heros and generals can take a lot of damage and are single targets so they are hard to hit...NEVER let your Pegasus knights or your Griffons take any fire at all. They should never be used to draw enemy fire. Also use your heros, instead of infantry units, because your heros can be used to attack whole units while your archers focus on the enemy. Your archers will have full view of the enemy with your hero out in front rather than firing OVER your infantry which results in less enemy deaths due to your own men getting hit in the backs. Heros can also outlast any infantry units so its better to have heros out in front. Avoid using infantry at all and just have 3 or 4 heros blocking your enemies access to your archers.

    Wow a balanced army being someone's preferred method within the TW community?! What rare inhuman species are you?!!
    In all seriousness it's awesome to see someone judge the merits of a unit solely rather than basing the merits against the dominant strategy and meta of the game. The game suffers a lot in regards to balancing and I see a lot of complaints. End game, and even some factions mid games, are marred by a horrible lack of unit diversity, not so because there aren't units, but instead because some units are just an unholy level of better even when it might not make sense for them to be. I personally bring a balanced army and try to use actual tactics to win for my own personal enjoyment as it's more fun for me to get into the role of whatever faction I'm playing. Makes it more "real", I guess, for me.
    That being said I fucking love joke doomstacks and army comps regardless of whether they're trash, middling, or fantastic because....well I mean it's hilarious to see. I don't begrudge anyone playing the game they want to and I don't stress myself out enforcing my own rules on myself. I'll goof off when I feel like it.

  • @ArdaUnhail

    I respect it and all but 2 trebs (blessed or not, they do the job) 4 spearmen with shields and rest archers with Fey is probably better then this. How? Well you need lords to accompany you of course! Works nice enough on VH/VH, not necessary to be Fey, any Breton Lord would do fine but i prefer my lord not tanking because of reasons.
    Accompanying 3 lords can also bring paladins and at later game they can also host various damsels. At mid/late game, each 3 lords with 3 paladins is a really, really good tanking force total of 12 cavalry lords at any army you field. They can tank and cause a blob of at least 12, maybe up to 24 units means you can lock at least 24 of the enemy units out of your archer horde. Then trebs and archers can shoot to the blob around your lords and boy they kill. This happen to be not working against Skaven and Woodelves but as Bretonnia, i could never find a way to fight mid and late game rats and woodies.
    By the way, you can throw a unit of cavalry or two to the lords to increase confusing force. They chase the flankers so if you can throw 2 -4 cavalry to flanks, even without attacking much they become the most useful unit of this setup. I really do not like pegasus knights because they are squishy and they cause me to pause and replenish for some turns before they become a power again.
    Most of my games i reach to 1500 chivalry and around before i have the necessary buildings anyway. The only way i can get them before turn 60 is to confederate other factions and their lands, otherwise my growth is really slow to pace up. Griffon knights? what now, should i wait to turn 150 before i start my campaign? No sir. A good breton general must do with peasants and the noble lords and damsels in his court! Only griffons i happen to use are the accompanying lords griffon.
    Lately i started to think VH-VH is too tedious a job though, so i now play at Hard-Hard but then i do not need any strong units at all. What a dilemma.

      Ok well, in my opinion, nothing on TH-cam is truly original. If I'm making an army guide then how else is it possible to make it different? There are stats and facts about how factions and units perform so it's not like I can change that. If I'm making guides for factions then I obviously am not going to leave out battle since its a huge part of the game and I also arent going to just refer to Zerkovich. I've seen some of his guides but I never let it influence my thoughts on each unit. I don't just read stats and facts. I also give opinions and it they tend to be similar to his then that's just coincidence.
      By your logic, if its the structure of videos that are too similar then every single movie review of the same movie is a shameless copy. This is obviously not true as different people have different opinions even if the structure is exactly the same. Yes if the graphics and commentary and pacing were exactly the same then I could understand that but this isn't the case.
      Everyone is entitled to an opinion and you can think what you want but if you want to call me out for a shameless copy then at least offer some further feedback with how its a copy and how it can be changed to not be a copy.
