- The past week has been a weird one for Michigan football, losing many backup linebackers to the transfer portal, and a few others. But with the transfer portal now closed for undergrads (for the time being) we discuss how the Wolverines have ended up to this point. Yes, Michigan has lost 17 transfers, but maybe only two or three were expected to be contributors in 2024.
With that in mind, we then look to the 2023 class and why it's starting to resemble that of 2018 and its insane hit rate on high-quality players. How that class could determine this year's success.
Finally, Michigan did get an incoming transfer, with former Youngstown State wide receiver C.J. Charleston opting to come from Ohio to Ann Arbor.

Just a fan. Do not know any background info or anything. Never saw him interviewed, but I really liked Amir's HS Highlights. Did a lot well, Battled, Looked like a future Michigan Lineman to me? Sad to see it didn't work out.

The impact to 2024 was covered in-depth but not so much the impact to 2025 and 2026. We have lost several potential future starters. Depth will be a bigger problem in the future as players like Beasley, who wasn't going to contribute this year but certainly would be expected to be in the two-deep next year. We can only replace these players through the Portal. If we replace them as future commits they won't be make an impact for at least two years.
Michigan added a starting offensive guard, a starting linebacker, a starting kicker, a rotational depth player at receiver, and brought back Amorion Walker to help with depth at both receiver and cornerback. Other than a rotational player at safety, the best players to leave through the portal so far have been a backup guard who got posterized in the spring game and a guy who just got beat out for the starting #2 cornerback spot and the nickelback spot. None of the linebackers that left were considered among the top six linebackers on the team.
If you want to see a real portal meltdown just go follow Colorado.
Also, if I were to project what a game day depth chart would look with the roster they've got right now, it would look something like this:

Bridgeman was a 4 star but fell all cycle. Beasley was a higher rated guy generally.

I throughly understand your indignation regarding all things NIL, but if you truly have direct access (non gatekeeper) to Mrs. BR or Mr. SM, then it would behoove you to make the connection happen between them and my firm, sooner rather than later.
As we can easily double the current athletic department's projected surplus at no net cost to them, whatsoever!
What throughly grinds my gears, is having to listen to all the pundits who cover my beloved team, constantly drone on about the current NIL issues.
