Aegon got roasted 3 times in the same episode.
When? His mother saying him to do nothing and just be a puppet while it was her that put in there to be King is cruel and while he lost his son too. Aegon is right in going to battle
@@MrVictor1227I completely disagree. There are many reasons why, but to give one, he was fucking wasted. And untrained. And untrained. And untrained. Did I say he was untrained?
Real coming down to earth for the King!
@@MrVictor1227only himself to blame.
Look at Aemond. He wasn’t in line to be king but still went and read philosophy, the history books, learned valerian, learned the sword, etc.
Aegon just wasted his life getting drunk and fucking about
@@martincolton32
There is genuine blame that can be put on Alicent and Otto. If you want a claimant to be appealing, you have to train them. Aegon was living his life as he expected to. Being a privileged, carefree royal with no responsibilities. To tell him that his whole life then just expect him to be an expert statesman makes no sense.
I love that this episode actually made me regret wanting to see dragon battles. I’ve been waiting for the dragon action, but now that I saw it, it was devastating.
Same. I had to keep saying to myself “it’s not real” to stop the soul searing pain. 😢
Sunfyres cries in pain had me gutted, tears rolling down my cheeks 😢

Does anyone else wish these were animated again?
why would someone sit there and watch a very basic animation over a podcast? very odd
@cunningflop I think the logic is it's better to have something to look at instead of a static screen. Personally, clips of the scenes they're talking about would work too.
Yes 😅
@@cunningflop idk I liked it 🤷🏽♂️ why judge what I like?
@@cunningflopdude. Go look at the channel history. They dropped an animated episode review then the hour+ deep dive podcast after. We just miss the old double video format
I completely disagree with you wanting Aegon to show up in the battle as a surprise.
The whole first half of episode is the build up & reasoning for him going, but then also the montage is fantastic. How it blends together all 3 settings (dragon stone, rooks nest & kings landing) & the parallel between rhaenys & Aegon getting ready… the music… just everything was near perfect execution. The dragon bonds to riders.. man chefs kiss. Still a a few battles from got I’d put above this but man it was special
Just seeing Nana Vhaegar flying and walking over the battlefield was enough for me. These scaling shots gave me Godzilla 2014 feelings, which I loved.
For me it was a surprise because I was doing other stuff while watching, didn't know I was actually doing a bookreader's pov viewing, but I think it played well that way too. It definitely made Aemond's and Cole's reaction relatable because I also perked up and pause what I was working on to actually pay attention at that moment.
@@quintus920 brother HOTD is not the show to not pay attention too lol. I would definitely finish your stuff when you’re busy, then watch the show whenever you get enough time haha
The Vaegar hate is twisted. Don’t hate the dragon, hate the rider!
I think Vhagar is enjoying her golden years, burning people.
@@ariellann4555getting memories of cooking dornishmen
Riding a dragon without eye protection is also a bit wild. At those speeds the wind and debris would make it pretty rough lol
Very true lol, even riding a motorcycle you need eye protection, not to mention the risk of literal fireballs
These medieval times. They weren't pussies back then
This is where we have to suspend disbelief. Like Dany riding on Drogon’s spines with no saddle lol
Still the best tv show of the year
thank you!! I've been wondering about exactly this for awhile now. like I don't know if it's realistic they could've invented some manner of goggles at that point in "history" (obviously it would be glass, not plastic)
edit: I just looked it up, and granted I'm not sure what the real world equivalent would be for this sort of time period depicted in the show, but history has it as early as the 14th century that goggles were created for swimming
Ironically, the first episode of the season where the dragons fight (and the first episode in general where the dragons REALLY do a proper fight), it tragically reminds you that the dragons aren't just big scary beasts, they're emotionally intelligent creatures who can genuinely feel a connection to their riders
Yea but also Meley's full on squashed a dude who was just doing his job. That guy probably had a family, but Meley's didn't give a shit so either she's a beast or a monster. I won't lie, I did feel kind of sad for her though, because they remind me of dogs.
I really love the way they have handled Aegon. In the first season I thought we would just get another Joffrey 2.0 when they alluded to all of his crazy shenanigans with the childfighting etc. but they have really made him into a sympathetic and tragic character during this season. That dude just can't catch a break lmao.
"Either fight, or get crushed by battling dragons, your choice."
So is this how y’all will do each review of the season? I highkey miss the normal format
Meleys is the largest dragon on team black who has a rider. We saw daemon sing to Vermithor last season, and I’m pretty sure he is larger and older
Thank you😊
Isn't meraxes bigger?
Meleys was the largest available at the time, caraxes is a little bigger.
The bronze fury will get his chance.

So I’m the only one who seen Sunfire falling to the ground belly up which means Aegon should be a pancake ?
From what I could see, he flipped over right before they went behind the trees.
Sunfyre eats Rhaenyra so... not a pancake.
Was there not a line from GoT about "when dragons enter the battle nobody wins" i cant remember the exact quote or who said it but i felt that this episode.
Is there? If there is, I definitely don’t remember it. Maybe in the books
@@stopculture tbh the more I think about it, it might have just been something I heard in a GoT wrap up vid similar to this and just applied it to the show itself lol. Either way it still a powerful statement that was realized in this episode.
There is a line in season one by Rhaenyra where she says “when Dragons fly/go to war, everything burns” which harkens back to Deanarys’ line about not wanting to rule over ashes.
I think you were remembering Cersei’s line, “If you play the game of thrones, you win or you die…”.
I think Rhaenys saw Aemond burn his own brother and thought “this guy is gonna be a problem, I gotta go back and get him out the paint” I was hoping the second time that the show runners loved Eve Best so much they wanted to keep her alive but nah she went back AGAIN!!!😢😢😢
I love the subtle Kendrick v Drake references in all of these lmao
"Dragonstone's about to get raided" 😅
Jace and Aemond serving face are every other hotd account tweet😭
3 Dragons having a proper dog fight
Daemon off a perc
I listen to a few other people do this same commentary, and you guys are still the funniest (while still insightful). Love you guys! And I don't even understand sports!
Trope alert? No other character at Harrenhall acknowledges Miz Rivers other than Daemon. I’m wondering if they’re going to go the 6th Sense route to make it all a vision or weirwood inception. Thoughts?
Watching these dragons die is going to kill me.
Why send one dragon when you could send more? Why fly so low when you could stay high? Why turn around and fight Veghar when you could retreat a short distance and come back with backup? Kings landing is much farther.
the blacks had no reason to think they would let vhagar leave kings landing undefended since the greens have so few dragons, if she kills vhagar or injures them after aegon falls the war is just over.
They said for three episodes in a row that Vhagar is guarding the capital, the King will not fly alone. Baela's patrols showed that there was no dragon flying after Cole. Criston has already captured 2 castles and 1 city without the participation of dragons. Why should they think that Vhagar will fly to storm a small castle instead of guarding the iron chair?
Soon as aegon and sunfyre was down rheanys should have fly back to dragon Stone and sent dragon to kingslanding and have rheanyra and rheanys jump vheagar together in his was down the capital
@@funnypuy So if Vhagar dies, the war is over...but let's not stay together in case Vhagar emerges... No, let's split up and not retreat and regroup so Vhagar can be ganged up on and killed. I can tolerate a small amount of irrationality because bad decisions get made irl all the time but this is just so stupid it's insane. These experienced characters would never act like this, it's the classic case of losing 40 IQ points to move the story along.
@@beden653 Why leave all your dragons guarding dragonstone if youre certain Vhagar and the rest are defending Kings Landing? There's no scenario where what they did makes strategic sense, and tactically it's completely indefensible. Send all your dragons at once, maybe minus one to scout the dragon pit, and share the risk. Keep half high, they will have total situational awareness and can dive on enemy dragons who try to defend the siegers. It's much more interesting when characters die because their enemies are smart, not because they are drooling mongoloids.
Ya man Daemon just casually dropping acid tabs with the Woods Witch at Harrenhal. Meanwhile, Westeros is on fire.
He's being a real fuckboi to R right now but I get it its a mess out there.
I watch for the Dragons. I weep for the Dragons.
Since I first saw a dragon, I've been with the Dragons.
Hell yes. Iguana man and Monkie talk about the great battle
Everyone drinking moon tea cuz no one wants mini coles running around.... worst part of the episode is my poor baby sunfyre crying in pain, that poor baby!
They boys are back 🟩🟨⚔️⬛️🟥
I know Rhaenys is probably kicking herself in the afterlife for not taking out team Green when she had the chance last season 😂😂
I think it's also fascinating how Alicent is looking into all the history books for anything eluding to 'Aegon's dream', when all she needs to know is on that dagger. I wonder if Aemond will be the one to figure it out now that he has it!
Fear and loathing in harrenhall.
I thought the bats were in the previous episode😂😂😂
@@ruthbennett7563😂😂😂😂 foreshadowing
Aegon is now a shopping cart. 🛒 From here on out. Like Beansie.
I backed off bensie.... then I put it in drive 🚗
Been waiting.
If they just had Jon epically ride his dragon for the first time and turbo nuke the night king, they would had fulfilled the prophecy enough to be satisfying. Dani’s heel turn could have been just slightly more built up more with her being a bit more ruthless a few seasons earlier. It all could have been great. How the fuck do you abandon Jon’s legacy and story like they did. It’s so unforgivable I hope Dan and Dave never live this down because they truly destroyed the greatest fantasy that so many people loved and cherished
Dragons in GoT verse can change sex in order to reproduce.
Does it say that? I thought the dragons are just assumed male until they lay an egg, then they are confirmed female. (used to be how people would determine the sexes of some birds too)
They cant
How do two things so huge bump uglies? Always wondered lmao
@@mischr13In fire and blood there is mention that one maester theoriezes they can change gender but that theory was met with skepticism within the universe. So George being coy about it
I have a theory that Alys Rivers is actually working for Larys Strong as a spy/assassin at Harrenhal. I think she was the one who killed Lyonel and Harwin and is messing with Daemon on Larys’ behalf.
I think that’s why Larys sounds so confident when talking about Harrenhal/Daemon not being an issue for the Greens and how he knows that Daemon is going through hell. Him and Alys could be some freaky power couple
When Vhaegar huffed and puffed after Aemond said wait, after the horn signals, might show that she was upset she wasn’t going into battle just yet
Or she’s just a tired old lady
Love you boys, if you go to TIFF do another vlog like that one time, it was awesome!
Let’s go been waiting for this
is it just me or after 2 years wait the hype kind of died out? i'm still watchimg, but honestly not that interested anymore. I guess that's what happens when u have to wait 10 episodes 2 years...

Who wrote your ExpressVPN script? 😅
I’ve not read the book. But considering it’s going to be 4 years until the finale and it’s pretty hard avoiding all spoilers shall I just read the book?! Maybe when this series is over…
I am convinced Alys is a stark and half wolf because I saw her as Sheila the She-Wolf in GLOW.
Usually when the title is "The A and the B", one of the two is GOING to die in the episode.
The only exception I can recall is "The Dragon and the Wolf"...
Looking very forward to your 2nd hald of "Shogun" and "The Bear" season 3 reviews!!!
Where’d the Ep5 review go?
“Vhagar’s House of Pancakes”
Ah yes, those captivating 2009 LeBron highlights that I don’t want anyone to know I watch
Wait you thought she survived that fall? Thats cray bro
It’s always the last few minutes with you guys 😂😂😂. I’d dine a chez Vhaegar though
I'm sad to see Tom Glynn Carney leave I really enjoyed watching him this season
Septon Barth (who is generally right about things) insisted that all dragons are sequential hermaphrodites, who can change back and forth between male and female on a whim.
SOUP SOUP SOUP SOUP
The bit about last words reminds me of Janos Slynt 😅. I'm sure he'd want a redo. Try to go out like Rickard Karstark or Rodrik Cassel.
Meleys is also referred to in Fire & Blood as a she-dragon. Dreamfyre and Syrax have both laid eggs, which means they are considered to be female as well. Silverwing and Vermithor seem like they are a mated pair. Although I never have heard an indication of the sex of either one of those two dragons. Those are all the ones that I know have been identified as females, although I wouldn’t be surprised if Moondancer is female as well.
Someone get Eve Best an Emmy
How do people keep losing sight of that huge dragon 🤷🏾
Definitely didn’t like/understand how the biggest dragon snuck around so quickly. And how did Aemond even time that strike?
The Dragons originated in Old Valyria, why would they think being spoken to in Valyrian strange?
Because many were hatched in Westeros
@@wisdommanari6701and looked after by the dragon keeper blokes who all speak valerian
Did New York really just get bins?
Although a 9.6/10 is way too high in my opinion, this was the best episode of the season so far. I think an 8-8.5 is more fair. The whole season is around 7.5 imo. A little underwhelming but not terrible.
Can someone explain the "Reuben who used to go by bo Oliver" joke?
I completely forgot this dragon fight happened this early.
One thing I wonder about is if Aegon remembers what Aemond did, what can he really do about it? That battle proved Aemond is absolutely necessary in the battle of dragons. I can kind of see Aegon just stewing on the fact that his brother tried to kill him and wants maybe wants the throne and he can’t really do anything about it because he needs him or at least needs Vhaegar to win this war.
Aemond's role is "big dragon" 😂
Watching hotd gives me hope that hbo will fix the ending of got. Cant keep trying to tie in the cats paw and it doesnt matter in the end. Ruins everything for me...
I did matter. You just didn't like it. They will absolutely never remake the last season.
@@Blinkptx currently it's the song of ice and ice🤷♂️
@@geodude12y😂👍🏻agree
2 times people in the episode spoke in high valerian and the other person who should and do know the language cant comprehend it.
This reminded me of every time they dumbed down the smart characters on GoT for the sake of wowing the audience. Rhaenys knew she and Meleys were two of Rhaenyra's greatest assets but she chose to take the massive risk of attacking Aemond and Vhagar instead of getting to safety. They should have stuck to the way GRRM wrote this, that is, Rhaenys getting ambushed with no choice but to fight.
Also that scene where she dropped the dragon just seems like a metaphor for her causing them to be wiped out both the Targaryen dynasty and the dragons themselves
This some good soup 🙏🏽
Funny you guys mention you "didn't understand kpop stan culture until..."
Last season, I literally did create a fake Twitter account and just retweeted all Ser Harwin Strong gifs
❤ ser harwin
I’m pretty sure there are male and female dragons because the black dread was always referred to with male pronouns
Reuben we love you I mean Beau are you ok ❤
Aegon has become my favorite character. He's so effortlessly funny
Too bad Rhaenys died without learning that Laenor was alive. I know she talked about in season 1 why she was siding with Rhaenyra but it seemed a bit weird for her to support Rhaenyra as much as she did.
I may not be on team.green, but I cannot lie, that trap was smart. I even said "Send a dragon" only to realize I played into Cole/Aemond hand. My only tini tiny complaint is.......how the hell did Team Black not spot Godzilla?!?!? Seriously, they've been keeping track of their army, Im surprised they let that huge thing slip past them.
Daemon inhaled some scarecrow fear toxin
Probably thinking vhagar guarding kings landing, king won’t be risked if she retreats that looks bad for the blacks running from the battlefield after already losing many castles hearing that make more go to aegon without a fight plus aegon down thought perfect chance to injury or kill vhagar no one else is strong enough Daemon is not answering ravens
We’re fucking back
would it be fair to say if goggles could've been invented by now? because as much as it's great they've embraced the practicality of saddles for dragon riding, it seems just as ridiculous they have no eye protection. you ain't seeing shit flying that hard thru wind
The monkey absolutely gave that horse a spring roll.
I think showing aegon getting sunfyre instead of just showing up was a good choice. I’ve read fire and blood so I knew it was coming, but my brother who hasn’t, was going oh my god he’s actually going the whole time. so we still got the this fucking guy moment
The show has finally found its footing
Aegon, on the other hand, could definitely be alive. They let you know this with Sunfire breathing and Aemond putting away his sword.
Loved the episode but even in the books it was confusing why none of the Blacks considered that Vhagar might be at Rooke’s rest so it’s a huge risk to send Rhaenys
Daemon is tripping balls
Jace has got some good strong genes 😂
There is zero chance that the grand maester doesn’t know high valaryian
Did Tywinn say it was 32 hearths in the 100 hearths great hall. Tywinn knew it wasnt 100 just like its not 1000 blades in the iron throne.
Loved this episode
All Dragons are not female. Vheagar is a female, amongst a bunch of other dragons like Cyrax, Dreamfyre, and Melles - but there's also a bunch of dragons that are classified as male, such as Vermax, Vermithor, and Arrax. I'm not sure which sex Sunfyre is, but I'm almost positive Sunfyre's a male. No one knows for sure how to tell the sex of a dragon, so the only way they can confirm are by finding out which ones lay eggs and which ones don't. Some maesters even theorize that dragons can choose their gender/are both. But yeah, not all dragons are girls. Although I did enjoy hearing your guys's banter about it, it was quite funny. As I always enjoy hearing your banter, thoughts, opinions, and input you both give in your videos.
Thank you. Sunfyre is male, that is canon.
Dragons go BOOM
Aemond better read that damn dagger!!!!
42:55 you did not cut that part out lmao
What's up with the name change?
Probably trying to appeal to a different demographic
Every video I watch said maylese is the biggest team black dragon. Why do they forget vermithor and caraxes?
Vermithor has no rider and Caraxys is longer but I don't think it's bigger in terms of body size. That long neck is a major vulnerability
@@wisdommanari6701 vermithor is still their dragon.
