  • A faster electric Mustang? That’s about the size of it, yep. Welcome to the Mustang Mach-E GT. Instead of the 360bhp you got in the previous quickest Mach-E, the GT generates 480bhp. That makes it considerably more powerful than the 5.0-litre V8 plumbed into the nose of the Mustang Mach 1 coupe, which is currently the most powerful ‘Stang on sale in the United Kingland of Engdom-on-sea. But how does this £65k EV stack up? Click play and Top Gear Magazine’s Senior Road Test Editor Ollie Kew reveals all.

    The extended range Mach E has over 300 miles of range in RWD trim. And Ford's predicted range is much closer to real world than Tesla's.

      @didiermejia780 2 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Yes, but don't say that to any tesla fanboys, you won't hear the end of it.

    • @abhinavcj1
      @abhinavcj1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Being closer to the real world doesn't make it the bigger range.
      This is the most absurd argument. 5/10 is still worse than 7-9/10 even if you were to go by the lower range number.
      Plus in the real world, the whole charging experience and infrastructure/practicality is what matters. Not pure range. But don't go telling the Tesla haters that.

      @jghall00 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@abhinavcj1 being closer to the real world matters because Teslas frequently don't hit their range estimates, so you have to take their numbers with a grain of salt. I've not seen the same said about the Mustang. You're correct about the charging network, but that calculus is different for everyone depending on how they use the car. For some people it's a big deal, for others not so much. Tesla is not the only manufacturer that achieves 300 mile range so consumers now have a choice.

    • @timmie2k3
      @timmie2k3 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@abhinavcj1 the general consensus seems to be that Ford claims around 270 miles and usually overperforms in the real world while Tesla claims 300 miles but usually underperforms in the real world. All the other testing I've seen done shows the Mach E has more real world range than the Model Y (comparing performance versions), albeit very close. The charging networks do make a big difference if you're dependent on them, the ones Ford uses sound like they're just a terrible experience. But if you can just charge at home then it's all kind of moot anyway.

    This channel would benefit from putting up actual numbers and mileage achieved, rather than just stating your experience with no numbers to bolster your opinion. I say this partly because I've seen other long range tests against the model y, where the Mach E actually got better range. It wasn't the GT, but the model Y wasn't the Performance either. Basically, it seems like you're going off of manufacturer stated numbers and maybe you're a Tesla owner. Basically, this was rather boring and lacks personality.

    2. Why doesn't anyone hoot about passing times? The time to get from 30 to 60 mph, this is really where EV's shine (along with launching).
    3. The nose rising on launch is simple mechanics. The bottom of the tires put a huge forward force on the car, the center of gravity is above the acceleration force, so the nose rises.

      @@sailingandsomejokes oh as a Tesla model 3 owner I know but as for i interior the biggest place where BMW falls short compared to Tesla is seats and seat quality. All the BMW seats are just so stiff. I wouldn't mind a little more color than the Tesla interior but I did that aftermarket for about $150 with interior lighting and dash pieces. I think while you do get more bright work and more interior options that doesn't necessarily justify the $30,000 price Gap

However, in true fast Ford fashion, I think this is one of the most exciting EV’s on sale ( only completion in my opinion is the Kia EV6 GT). And of course, none technically match the Tesla, for charging (250kw/h) or performance or range, however the styling is a bit boring for my taste.

    I don't like performance crossovers. I don't like coupe crossovers either. And I only like regular crossovers if people use the space a good amount of time. But maybe this looks more like a coupe than it is due to how the roof is painted. This isn't a Mustang, it's an electric crossover. I believe in electric cars due to how they run and move and their smoothness. But we're way too carried away with all this nonsense of zero to 60 and "launching" cars. Who "launches" their car from a standstill in normal driving? I don't know about England, but in the USA the parking lots are full of people driving these things around as daily drivers and most people aren't using the performance. I rarely see a Tesla accelerating at any great speeds even entering the highway (I've been stuck behind many that don't know how to accelerate to highway speeds). So, yeah, there are some who go on and on about acceleration that own them, but these high performance crossovers are a flavor of the day thing that so many manufacturers are doing because so many people want crossovers and they want to be competitive. The amount of people using the performance is slim. And I'm thankful for that because the vehicles have way too much power for the driving skills of most people.

    • @pigeonpoo1823
      @pigeonpoo1823 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Absolutely. These are still very expensive cars bought by people with lots of money mainly of an older generation and (see c19) scared of their own shadow, so they drive everywhere slowly, not using the performance available cos they're afraid they'll run out of battery before they get to the safety of Waitroses free charger..... 3 miles away. Utterly tragic. Also, these older people don't like the intense feeling of huge acceleration, so put the the thing in 'pansy' mode. My uncle only puts his Tesla in stupid mode to make me giggle like a child. Tragic.

    OK obviously Ford messed up with this. The Mustang Mach E should have been an actual Mustang, not a completely different platform (crossover). Imagine an electric Mustang that is as fast or faster than a Tesla. Would have been a big hit, and really paved the way for EV.
    This thing should have been called the Ford Edge EV. Wouldn't be able to leach off the Mustang for slightly increased sales tho.
