I love that Jay has not lost his sense of reality that most us common people that watch these videos weekly have. Point being just the simple things Jay brings up about something costing $200. To most working class people that’s an expense we wouldn’t want. Jay still understands that even though he obviously isn’t poor by any means lol. Thank you Jay for bringing these videos to us. I have been watching them for years and love them!

My first car was a 67 Mustang. Always liked the Mustang brand, and I don’t car that they added a different model to the Mustang line. I ordered the MME GTPE last year and have been driving it daily since October 2021. It is amazing. The acceleration from the torque still puts a smile on my face every time. The smooth quiet ride and technology make it a great vehicle for commuting. And as Jay said, zero maintenance (other than tires). I never have to stop at a gas station to refuel. I just plug it in in the garage about 2x a week and charge while I sleep. To me it’s a great combination of performance, style, convenience, economy. And for all you gearheads, which I am, I also have a 68 Camaro convertible in the garage, just so you know I’m not an anti-ICE guy.

But it doesn't even resemble a Mustang. At least for the most part when changed were made to the Corvette it still resembled a Corvette. Same thing with the dodge charger. It doesn't look like the classic charger. And it's a 4 door! Dame thing with this "Mustang". It's a 4 door SUV.

Really good review. I'm 55 and getting my first Mustang in a few months. It's the I.C.E. version of the GT. I'm not ready to jump on the E-revolution for a variety of reasons. While I don't really mind that Ford has an E-version of a Mustang, I'm confused of an SUV version, if that makes sense. While there's a lot of good to say about progress, there's also a lot to say about those things that people can make and feel. Gone will be the days of working on your own car. While I know that many people will gravitate to this new generation, I'm still liking when people say that their Mustang (or whatever ICE car they have) is 'built, not bought." Now, the car is plugged it into a computer/charger, hit the 'enter' button and complete an upgrade. I'm probably romanticizing too much. Thanks, Jay and Ford-guy.

Appreciate how Jay was willing to describe things he didn't like, but did it in a kindly manner. E.g., the lack of a spare tire. The need to look down at the gearshift knob (and screen) rather than grabbing a big shifter. The cues to gas powered cars that don't make sense for electric (but are probably needed to coax folks to accept it).
Re: the pointless front grille, one other possibility: the grille has always been a big part of the "face" of a car. Maybe even the most distinctive part. So, what happens if it only has "eyes," no "mouth"? Especially in these days when huge mouths are the fashion. Can they make that look good?
An idea for the frunk: make a gas generator, or extra battery pack, that can drop into that space for long distance driving. True it would add a lot of weight and probably make a mess out of driving dynamics, but might be worth it if it increases range by at least 100 miles.

Very nice informative video, Jay. Thanks. BTW, you may have already implied it earlier in this video, but I suspect one of the reasons Ford chose to name it a Mustang was to also show Ford's commitment to the new EV. Quite possibly, if they named it anything else, many might have considered it more of a joke. Naming it a Mustang showed their followers that Ford is dead serious about their commitment to the technology and to this model in particular. And so it seems. Risky? Apparently not from Ford's perspective. At least not anymore. :) Thanks again. I'm awaiting delivery of my 2nd Mach E Gt which should arrive in 1 week.

The biggest issue with EV Mustang vs a Tesla is not the car itself (although Tesla gets better range), it is the fact the Tesla has the best and dedicated charging network in America. Not only do they charge faster, but within your car you can see on the screen where the available stations are but more importantly real on the spot information as to how many units are being used, how many are available and so on. They are also owned and maintained by Tesla.
Ford or any other company for that matter does not have this and your are sort of at the mercy of these third-party charging stations, many of which are a franchise and often attached to regular gas stations. And often they may not be operating, or not have a fast-charger, etc.
A TH-cam channel I follow, MKBHD (tech related with over 15 million subs) last October did a great comparison. He took his Tesla Plaid, a Mustang EV (I forget what trim level) and an Audi with a standard V8. They went on a 1,000 mile trip in the upstate New York area, stopping as needed to charge or fill with gas. Long story short, the Audi made the route in the quickest, Tesla a very close second, and the Mustang a distant third. Why? The available charging station information the Mustang was getting was woefully inaccurate and often they would pull up only to find the station closed or the charging units not working.
The other point is with Tesla you have one account, one payment system, etc. and get detailed information constantly. But with Ford or others you may have to have several accounts with all these several third-party operators, using their apps, relying on their payment systems and so on.
And there is the biggest rub with anything other than a Tesla. The Mustang is doing great because heck… It has the Mustang name and it was smart of Ford to capitalize on that. But no other brand can come close to Tesla. Again, not the car itself, but it’s the infrastructure that is the key!

  • @michaelramsey82

Unpopular opinion: yes, it does look like a Mustang. Look at the silhouette as it comes into focus at 0:18. In the first few seconds, you can absolutely see the outline of the Mustang coupe. Yes, the proportions have been tweaked a little to raise it up and fit four doors, but the basic Mustang shape is still there. It's about as good as a modern four-door Mustang could possibly have looked. And the idea of a four-door Mustang goes back to the original 1964 concept cars - a four-door version was an option they considered from the beginning, but in the '60s, it made more sense to just do a two-door body style. The Mustang was advertised as a jack of all trades, and early ads even pitched it as a family car. At the time, 2 doors on a family car wasn't unusual. Now, 4 doors and a higher ride height on a sports car isn't unusual. It could be said that the Mach-E is closer in design philosophy to the original Mustang than the current coupe is. I just wish the car's fan base wasn't so narrow-minded about it.

    • @benlogicfactsshapiro
      @benlogicfactsshapiro 2 ปีที่แล้ว

The Mustang was never the jack of all trades family car, it was a pony car made to be an affordable muscle car. This is an overpriced grocery getter that is targeted toward the lowest common denominator forgetting it’s main demographic, just like that concept you mentioned that thank god never took off. And the mustang Mach-E being good looking is an opinion but saying this thing looks more like a mustang than it’s predecessor is just a strait lie. I could say more but I don’t want to write an essay.

We're putting the cart before the horse, if you'll pardon the pun. There's also the issues of the government having total control over your vehicle and car theft by hacking. @@ismaelcarrillo3956 I have two cars, both twenty + years old. My problem with some electric cars is that when the battery needs replacing - owners won't, because the cost of the new battery will be more than the car is worth - therefore what in the UK insurers would call a 'write-off'. If this proves to be true in the future, then electric cars will not last as long on the road as petrol / diesel cars. You could have a situation where in the lifetime of a petrol/ diesel car, two or three electric cars have to be made - therefore overall the total environmental issues caused per each electric car built could be more than per petrol/ diesel car.
I may be proven wrong, but I don't like the way we are all being encouraged to dash headlong towards electric cars - after all this is what happened with diesel cars - and look how that turned out! I have nothing against electric cars, but believe we should still keep our eyes open on other alternatives - fuel cell, bio-fuel and hydrogen cars for example.

few thing about electric cars is
1- amount of money you save in ten years is less than how much more you pay to purchase the car
so you save $7000 on gas in ten years for example but the car cost you $12000 more to buy ,and that's if you keep the car that long, if you keep it 3 or 5 years it's even worst
2- how much the battery pack cost and how long they last is equal or more than regular maintenance of gas cars
3- parts that needs to be changed are way more expensive than gas cars, like the gas pedal wires and labor
that's why Jay or the Ford guy never mentioned the battery life, the price and labor cost!!
how long does it take to charge on charging station or regular 110 volt at home
those clean electricity that we are talking about are also produced by coal power plant or other fuel plant, so it's not so clean ,it's just you don't see it in the city like pollution over LA or NY, that brown haze
BY THE WAY THIS IS STILL SUV NOT A MUSTANG!😂😂

I recently drove the Mach-e GT performance. the acceleration is insane but so linear that it wasn’t exciting after a while, the brakes are perfect and have a great pedal feel. I didn't find the steering very communicative, the car feels downright heavy in sharp bends. On short bumps I also found the car restless and not very pleasant (seems like a huge challenge to make such a heavy SUV sporty and comfy at the same time). I also found the finish and materials to be substandard. There were quite some squeaks and rattles and the B&O system was a let down. I was impressed with the grip the car has and I thought the “fake engine noise” was nicely done.

95% of people are not going to BE driving 300 miles at a time except during summer vacation or something, most people will be driving to/from work, shopping, the dentist, taking kids to school, etc., like th egas tank, you "fill" the batteries and drive for days or longer before having to refill again.
In my case I live 1/2 mile from work, I come home for lunch, so I put on 2 miles a day on a moped that gets 80 mpg and uses 1/2 a quart of oil for oil changes. If I had an EV one charge would easily last many weeks and then I could charge it at home. On occasion I drive to a city 35 miles away for a Menards, or another city that is 18 miles away, neither trip would need any kind of additional charging.
