Rules: -You're allowed to catch any Pokemon you want *before* you challenge the first gym. -You may catch dupes, but you must release all but one of any species you have in your party or boxes before challenging the first gym. -If you use Pokemon with evolution trees (Wurmple, Ralts, etc.) you may catch and keep as many variants as you expect to evolve during the run without using duplicate final evos. You could catch and keep a male and female Burmy, for instance, since they evolve into Mothim and Wormadam, but you couldn't keep three or more Burmy. -You may not catch any Pokemon, complete trades, revive fossils, or accept gift Pokemon after you defeat the first gym. Forced Legendaries should be fainted immediately. -No saving and resetting catches to optimize natures and stats. -No overleveling past the gym leader’s ace. -Battle mode on set. -No items in battle. -If a Pokemon faints, it's released or permaboxed. This type of run really helps you understand team planning for an entire run, since your type options are limited and the early route Pokemon usually require creativity to remain viable into the late game. And with a limited number of Pokeballs and money you can acquire before the first gym, it also demands good item management, planning order of operations (which Pokemon to prioritize), and budgeting in the early game. Waste a bunch of Pokeballs on that low catch rate Riolu? Better have a backup plan. Would love you see you try a run. I don't think it would amount to much of a challenge in Galar or Paldea, but I've had a ton of fun with it in games up to Gen 7. To me, Gen 6 has proven the most fun for this type of run.

this is easily one of your best videos so far! the storytelling was impeccable and had me on the edge of my seat the entire time!! another common flygonHG banger
I love your story for this because it reminds me of the Pokémon Rom Rocket Edition where you play as a new Grunt and work your way through Rocket missions.
Excellent video as always. I, too, enjoy doing crime. That said, your storytelling skills are phenomenal, and you had me giggling in public not even thirty seconds into the video. Seeing a different team theme was also fun, and I agree with others that this with the other organizations' grunts would be great to see! Thanks for the fun run, and looking forward to what you do next!
Man, the Furies were really looking out for this team, the sheer emotional rollercoaster leading to the perfect finale of final vengeance was absolutely amazing.
@TheGhostFart salty, are you? I suppose you're the type who would insist on grinding in thr johto games. Anyway this was perfect and it's called taking advantage of the game- just like the ai.
You could totally follow up this run with a nuzlocke of the romhack "FireRed Rocket Edition." It's a hack where you play as Team Rocket and actually steal your encounters from other trainers. Super cool, conceptually!
This has to be my favorite run of yours so far! The drama, the suspense, the crime! Great work! It might be fun to have a "reincarnated" run in Ultra Sun/Moon where you transcend time and space to try and join Team Rocket again. I don't know if it could top this run, though.
Beyond having a lot of engaging fights in this run I just wanna say that Lagging Tail plus U-Turn for a safe switch (even if you didn't get to pull it off) is absolutely genius and would never have occurred to me, that's some good stuff

Arbok puttin in work warms my heart since this thing put up all star numbers for me when i nuzlocked ultra moon and fire red. Its grown on me alot and ill never slander the goat again
Right ! I’ve already been a fan of team rocket over any other evil team because of the mons they choose to use . If they would actually train , evolve , and give them a real move set , they’d actually be a threat . Especially vileplume , used correctly it’s always an overlooked powerhouse
This is such a fun and creative video! As someone who loves the Pokemon Team Rocket typically catches, I love that they got some time to shine! You really knock it out of the park with the running jokes, editing, and inserts. RAT POWER. Hope your new romhack playthrough is going well!
Oh, the joy of finding a PokéTuber with whom I share Flygon as favourite Pokémon, and who also happens to come up with fun narratives for his Nuzlocke challenges! I enjoyed how you justified helping Lance in the Rocket hideout (fear of being killed), and how you framed your EF challenge as revenge for Team Rocket's defeat and disbandment :D
A healthy amount of Rat Power in this one. I think my favorite thing is Gastro Acid Arbok enabling Black Sludge. There's nothing better than the nuzlockes that just squeak through.
Fun run!!! Seemed decently challenging without being a total nightmare. I would love to see other "Evil Grunt" Runs in the future, but I wonder if starting gym type will be a strong factor in if its even possible. Rock type first gyms seem pretty rough at a glance for most evil grunt pokemon.
In emerald it may be possible because poochyena is dark type which is neutral to rock types and is special so bite will bypass the typically high defense of rocktypes. (It gets bite at lv13, cap is 15) Although without checking further it would be a rough run because i believe the only options are the poochyena, zubat, numel, and carvanha lines. (Surprisingly strong for grunts but very limited selection and slow to gain new team members. I don't know if poochyena can solo Roxanne even using sand attack and bite.)
I tell you what though, I did a TR run of FireRed, and the only option available before Brock is Rattata. My boy Tony was Adamant/Guts and I made sure to go pester Weedle in the forest until one got the poison off, so I was going in with maximum RAT POWER possible for the level cap. The Geodude ended up being an absolute joke, easily going down after a couple Hyper Fangs. That said, with a level cap, I still needed two Potions (so, not a full Hardcore Nuzlocke ruleset) to get through Onix. Onix's offensive output is pitiful, thankfully, so two Tail Whips into Guts-boosted Hyper Fangs did the trick. Maybe with better IVs the battle would be do-able without Potions. I actually seldom use items in battle even when I'm not _technically_ doing a "Hardcore" Nuzlocke, so I figure that's as good as someone like me is gonna get, and I'm not bothered about refining the strategy.
It would be cool to do a nuzlocke where you can only use the mons used by one of the dexholders from the Pokémon Adventures manga. For example a Leaf Green Nuzlocke using mons Green used. I haven't start reading the Adventures manga yet, but I've ordered the Red & Blue boxset, should be arriving in about 1 to 2 weeks. Excited, I hope it's gonna be great!
1:28 haven't even finished the video and I'm already laughing at this whole list. Also Koffing hits differently after what it did to my baby. Rip Togepi "Jeppi"
A truly awesome video. I would have given myself a houndoom for the final fight. You've done so well, you deserved to be an executive, but it's amazing that you were able to win without one.
Real talk though, I do think that making Team Rocket- who were the Pokemon equivalent of the Yakuza in the original Japanese- the Pokemon equivalent of the mob in the English release was pretty brilliant. The Yakuza is more widely-known internationally now, but everyone knows what the mob is. It's a good shorthand.
This is probably one of your best videos yet: great theme, challenging run, great narrative, great jokes, great pacing, you name it. Kept me on the edge of my seat numerous times. It really shows how good you are at what you do, never a dull moment
spoilers for the ending Damn that was crazy luck against Red's blastoise with Juno! Probably now one of my favorite battles in your nuzlockes! Juno mvp for sure. Also, pretty cool story, I really like the more story focused nuzlockes.
This is one of my fav playthroughs so far, very epic ending! Great storyline told throughout and a very creative Nuzlocke team. I think more Nuzlocke team type challenges like this one might be a fun way to add more flavor to the playthroughs. +1
My headcannon is that Lance is secretly the Secret leader of Team Rocket after Giovanni, which is why a literal Crime Lord was allowed to be a gym leader and Team Rocket was able to move around Kanto without the pokemon league even attempting to stop them. And the reason he destroys the base in Mahogany town is that after the Red Gyarados, they were too reckless. Plus, Lance is also nowhere to be seen when they take over Goldenrod.
Prepare for trouble, FlygonHG is here And make it double, a nuzlocke has come again this year To protect the world from devestation To unite the people within our nation To denounce the evils of truth and love And extend our reach to the stars above Team Rocket blasts off at the speed of light Surrender now or prepare to fight
I would love to see this recreated in XY if only to see what insane outfits Matti comes up with to try and impress Team Flare. Change after every gym/story battle maybe?
Love the naming! I spent a lot of time learning about the history of space exploration over the past couple years and was very happy to see all the names, even the bumperwac which really doesn’t have a direct lasting legacy

this is easily one of your best videos so far! the storytelling was impeccable and had me on the edge of my seat the entire time!! another common flygonHG banger
That's a really cool idea! Hope you'll use this idea in other game (such as Magma/Aqua grunt, Galactic grunt etc.)
Team Aqua and Magma only have zubat, mityana, numal, and carvanna
@@cyberdarkturtle6971 That's probably one way to spell those Pokémon names
@@Theauu you get my point
@@cyberdarkturtle6971 I think they also have wailmer/baltoy for whatever reason, and grimer/koffing in the remakes
I knew this would turn into a revenge story! Loved it.
Without a doubt, this is the most inventive WRITING I've ever seen in a nuzlocke video. Bravo. Seriously.
This is the best Nuzlocke I’ve ever seen, man. Really well written and the voice over was incredible!! All hail Juno, Bumper and Vostok!!
I love your story for this because it reminds me of the Pokémon Rom Rocket Edition where you play as a new Grunt and work your way through Rocket missions.
Flygon exploring his villain arc with hilarious inner monologues made my week lmao. Plus the return of rat power is alwasy a welcome treat
Man, the Furies were really looking out for this team, the sheer emotional rollercoaster leading to the perfect finale of final vengeance was absolutely amazing.
he nullified the run by not boxing a dead mon and changing the weather
@TheGhostFart salty, are you? I suppose you're the type who would insist on grinding in thr johto games.
Anyway this was perfect and it's called taking advantage of the game- just like the ai.
@@TheGhostFart Nobody cares, stop crying. Imagine leaving dozens of comments on the same video about freaking weather.
You could totally follow up this run with a nuzlocke of the romhack "FireRed Rocket Edition." It's a hack where you play as Team Rocket and actually steal your encounters from other trainers. Super cool, conceptually!
literally one of the best teams you’ve worked with and awesome vid
This has to be my favorite run of yours so far! The drama, the suspense, the crime! Great work! It might be fun to have a "reincarnated" run in Ultra Sun/Moon where you transcend time and space to try and join Team Rocket again. I don't know if it could top this run, though.
LMAO, team rocket grunt stealing items from elite four member's pokemon. Incredibly fitting. I love your storytelling in this video!!
i love the story telling in this, i hope you do more videos like these
Beyond having a lot of engaging fights in this run I just wanna say that Lagging Tail plus U-Turn for a safe switch (even if you didn't get to pull it off) is absolutely genius and would never have occurred to me, that's some good stuff
You’re storytelling and narration of these nuzlockes truly sets you apart from all the other nuzlocke channels. Another awesome run.
I like to imagine "Sputnik" getting the U-Turn off is the would-be Rocket Grunt just throwing its dead body at Pidgeot.
19:27 vostok being able to underspeed really brought this play-through home
I did this same challenge in emerald. Only using team magma and aqua Pokémon. It was fun and worth trying!
What an AMAZING start to the new year!! This has quickly become one of my fave videos of yours, love the story, what insane battles, keep doing you FlygonHG
I really appreciate the extra effort you go through for these. The small things like the news paper articles or letters from Steven.
i think this is a strong contender for my new favorite video of yours, between the incredible editing, nerve-wracking battles, fun concept, and fantastic script, it's definitely one of your best. you love to see it
What a crazy playthorough. They aren't the same, BUT to think you almost reset Ren Plat because you didn't get poison heal glyscar and then have playthroughs like this that go against all odds. The joy of nuzlockes
I’m only 5 minutes in so far and can already tell your writing for this one is going straight at the top of S-tier
Update: really enjoy how much you fully committed to the bit during the storytelling and battle explanations the whole way through on this one
The last couple lines of the video caused an involuntary laugh that legitimately would have been a spit-take if I was drinking something lol
You should definitely do a video of your top 10 best pokemon performance you've ever had. Bumper and Juno gotta be there! lol. AMAZING VIDEO💯
Muk is my favorite pokemon, so seeing Juno win it all was so rewarding to me!
I love the narrative of this one. It's so charming.
My favourite part was when he said "It's Rocking Time" and rocked all over the place
I always loved muk and arbok so much and it gives me so much pleasure to see them carrying the run
Not gonna lie, had a rough day and this comes just at the right time. Thank you, my man. Keep up the great work!
A healthy amount of Rat Power in this one. I think my favorite thing is Gastro Acid Arbok enabling Black Sludge. There's nothing better than the nuzlockes that just squeak through.
This vid absolutely reignited my love for your content
Doing rocket runs in pokemon games is one of my favorite ways to play, so I'm happy to see my favorite nuzlocker do it grunt mode!
The ending commentary actually had me laughing out loud. I hope you know we appreciate your amazing scripts!
21:15 using gastro acid to be able to steal muk's item was my favorite crime you committed in this video!
(It gets bite at lv13, cap is 15)
Although without checking further it would be a rough run because i believe the only options are the poochyena, zubat, numel, and carvanha lines. (Surprisingly strong for grunts but very limited selection and slow to gain new team members. I don't know if poochyena can solo Roxanne even using sand attack and bite.)
@@jasonreed7522 You could go on a limb and allow Muk/Weezing because Maxie/Archie use them. Kind of cheating but then you get a full viable team
The Pokemon Adventures manga is phenomenal! You'll love it.
Ohhh enjoy the rabbit hole
Honestly this might be some of your finest storytelling
Thank handbook is great.
Venonat: for the grunt that wants to feel special!
Matti what a great video. It's so easy to see how much work you put into each one of these
I was deeply amused when I noticed that the "hardcore, crime-loving Rocket Grunt" was still sending money home to Mommy after every fight.
1:28 haven't even finished the video and I'm already laughing at this whole list.
Also Koffing hits differently after what it did to my baby. Rip Togepi "Jeppi"
15:48 this whole section. I'm not sure if it's the lack of sleep but *man*
A truly awesome video.
Thanks , Martin Scorsese
Unironically the the most beautiful performance of a nuzlocke
I love your content man! You’ve inspired me to try the same ever since I watched your first fire red hardcore nuzlocke. Thank you for be you!❤
I totally agree! FlygonHG you’re amazing, best of luck!
This is probably one of your best videos yet: great theme, challenging run, great narrative, great jokes, great pacing, you name it. Kept me on the edge of my seat numerous times. It really shows how good you are at what you do, never a dull moment
spoilers for the ending
Damn that was crazy luck against Red's blastoise with Juno!
Lance was very much Team Rocket in the manga
great video, awesome run, I really enjoy the little stories you create and roleplaying you do throughout
Best
Nuzlocke
Ever
That final fight was incredible!
I'd love to see you so a Galactic Grunt run in Platinum. These bad guy runs are so fun!
Prepare for trouble, FlygonHG is here
And make it double, a nuzlocke has come again this year
To protect the world from devestation
To unite the people within our nation
To denounce the evils of truth and love
And extend our reach to the stars above
Team Rocket blasts off at the speed of light
Surrender now or prepare to fight
Flygon, dats right!
i really love this kind of roleplaying script i hope there's more videos like this :)
I would love to see this recreated in XY if only to see what insane outfits Matti comes up with to try and impress Team Flare. Change after every gym/story battle maybe?
That final battle was the performance of a lifetime! I could play 100 runs and never have luck that good haha
Stealing the Item of an Elite 4 Member, now that is a smooth move
Love the naming! I spent a lot of time learning about the history of space exploration over the past couple years and was very happy to see all the names, even the bumperwac which really doesn’t have a direct lasting legacy
That Red battle was legendary.
This may be your best video yet lmao. The story. The Pokémon selection. The drama. It was terrific.
I LOVE CRIME💀💀💀💀
Be gay, do crime
I absolutely loved the narrative you came up with for this run. Excellent video and an incredible fight against Red.
Grunty Boi would love this playthrough
it would be fun to see him react!
0:39 Flygon HG respecting team rocket for their upcoming farewell
