Imo bug monotype runs are consistently the most fun. A decent selection from the early game, and you get to use pokemon you likely didn't use in the late game. Bugs also tend to have (relatively) good utility options, so you often have to come up with big brain strategies instead of clicking earthquake!
i gotta agree, i just came off of a sword monotype run with bug types and it was incredible. i never imagined myself actually struggling in areas of that game i previously thought were easy xD it really taught me me to think more critically about the pokemon i keep on my team and what kind of strategies i should use in battles beyond just spamming the hardest hitting moves! only took me about 25 years to learn it lmao!
Because heracross is a demon, in the anime it's criminal that tobias darkrai beat it, bug fighting should have done darkrai in. That megahorn would leave darkrai with nightmares
its a shame entire jotho dex is almost all trash 4 me, only good mons in jotho dex that can be found in jotho in gen 2 besides starters are: Crobat, Ampharos, Quagsire, Espeon and Umbreon, Slowking, Scizor and Kingdra. from them, Crobat, Espeon, Umbreon, Slowking, Scizor and Kingdra are ALL Kanto evolutions.

HG's right in that the odds are tricky and wouldn't be exact, but using the numbers he shows, that set of events has about a... ...0.124% chance of happening. Utterly wild. (To say nothing of the rest of the luck at hand, or lack thereof)

So that would be: (0.2^2) * 0.25 * (0.75^3) * 0.5625 * 0.525 = 0.001245… This doesn’t take into account the turn that Bread broke through or the turns where paralysis and flinch were both options that produce the same outcome (that being Bread not being able to move). So realistically the odds are probably closer to about 0.5% but I can’t be bothered to figure out how to calculate that exactly so less than 1% is good enough

Yeah, there were only a handful of good ones. Scyther, Scizor, Heracross & Pinsir are really the only ones that come to mind off the bat. Gen 5 did WONDERS for them

The only good ones are Volcarona which lets be real gets hard carried by Quiver Dance otherwise too much stuff would easily outspeed and tank hits (Quiver Dance is so busted it made Venomoth really good) and Scolipede which sucked very hard until it got one of the most broken abilities in the game. Seriously, speed boost? Imagine an actual good pokemon getting that, we saw that with Blaziken
@@dntremad8290 Galvantula is a great Pokemon with a good type and movepool. It evolves fairly soon after catching it in many of the games you can find wild Joltik. Crustle has solid bulk and can Shell Smash sweep without too much trouble. Even Leavanny can pop off in the right circumstances. It's still not great but it's considerably better than any of the early-game Bugs of prior generations.

And all the bugs you mentioned do not do much in competitive or playthrough teams. I like galvantula but unfortunately its terrible despite having decent stats at first glance Edit: Also forretress. Forretress was very good between gens 2-5. It wasn't practical to use in playthroughs but it was a competitive star

You’re also just never getting Volcarona in a playthrough of BW1 because Larvesta evolves so late; at least BW2 lets you catch a free one with no extra caveats. Even then, Galvantula gives you a basically free Skyla and Marlon and can be good in the Plasma and League battles.
I am having the saddest Thanksgiving ever right now and this really helped cheer me up. In college on the other side of the country from my family, small college, dining hall open once all break between 10-2 today to serve some to-go thanksgiving meals. Only they miswrote it, it closed at 1, i got there at 1:10. I got handed a pre pakaged "salad," no car to get groceries, im eating lettuce with parmesan cheese in my dorm room, no family or freinds in the state. But i do love some bug types and im sure ill laugh about this in a few years from now haha, thanks Flygon HG!

I did a Bug run of this game, and it felt a lot like Dr. Oneball’s experience. I will say that if you also have a Yanmega with speed boost, LEAVE DETECT ON YOUR SET! It lets you get a free speed boost on Crobat and Dragonite.

I don’t know if FlygonHG knows this, but by the time you defeat Falkner you can potentially get Sitrus Berries and even some of the powerful items like Choice Scarf from Mom thanks to getting access to Rock Smash early. You use Rock Smash the rock in Violet City which gives access to the Shards which you can trade with the Juggler, and you can then sell items like the Revives and Star Pieces which can allow you to get the items from Mom sooner.
I was just rewatching your SoulSilver Smeargle only nuzlocke, which to this day must be one of your most impressive runs. Any chance of getting a Smeargle nuzlocke in a more recent gen? Anyway great video as always

I just wanna see my three favorite types absolutely go crazy on like US/UM or a high-quality rom hack of your choice. You should have used detect with Yanmega to get the speed boost and then used ancient power. You either could have lived and killed dragonite or made it a guarantee kill with heracross.

Hey Flygon, great upload as per usual. Kind of anticlimactic thanks to Heracross - blessing and a curse. I’d like to suggest trying a “Fearless” Nuzlocke. Usual hardcore rules apply, but after each Gym battle all your Pokemon “die.” Really grindy without candies, but it adds a nice spin - lots more thought when team building, but still punishes you for careless deaths. Am currently running one on FRLG :)
Personally I don't see the point either in locking your encounters when doing a Hard-core nuzlocke. The point of the once per route on a nuzloche is because you have a large amount of encounters in any given route. If you mono-locking your already lowering your encounter rates to a fraction of the run.

The weasel refers to your Sunday best. Pop goes the weasel is pawning off your Sunday best to make ends meet during the week, before buying it back for church on Sunday. So Clair is probably the weasel in this scenario

I tried this in 2010 back when the game was new ( besides how Hardcore Nuzlocke rules didn’t exist yet). It was a fun time with a decent number of encounters, but I remember being stumped at parts.

Hey Flygon, great upload as per usual. Kind of anticlimactic thanks to Heracross - blessing and a curse.
I’d like to suggest trying a “Fearless” Nuzlocke. Usual hardcore rules apply, but after each Gym battle all your Pokemon “die.” Really grindy without candies, but it adds a nice spin - lots more thought when team building, but still punishes you for careless deaths. Am currently running one on FRLG :)

Personally I don't see the point either in locking your encounters when doing a Hard-core nuzlocke. The point of the once per route on a nuzloche is because you have a large amount of encounters in any given route. If you mono-locking your already lowering your encounter rates to a fraction of the run.

The weasel refers to your Sunday best. Pop goes the weasel is pawning off your Sunday best to make ends meet during the week, before buying it back for church on Sunday. So Clair is probably the weasel in this scenario

I tried this in 2010 back when the game was new ( besides how Hardcore Nuzlocke rules didn’t exist yet). It was a fun time with a decent number of encounters, but I remember being stumped at parts.
