He was replaced by Aurius in Cataclysm, after Baron Rivendare got upgraded to the Four Horsemen with the level 80 version of Naxxramas. (He was in both Naxxramas and Stratholme for the duration of WotLK, I believe, as the Stratholme version was only removed in patch 4.0.3a.)
Hiru started to play in WoTLK, that may be the reazon he dosen't know that Baron Rivendare was the original boss, even tho i'm sure the tool tip of the item mentions Baron Rivendare specificaly. He also did not know that this mount is the 1st rare boss mount drop, and not the ZG ones....

I saw an Icy Veins article on the Bengal Tiger mount. There’s one player in game who has it. Amara, the Make-A-Wish recipient behind the Jenafur secret. It was another gift to her as part of her Wish. She was seen in game on the mount during the Icecrown Shadowlands pre-patch event

She also had a song she made added ingame, and an NPC of her made ingame. Blizz has done tons with make a wish, who cares if its just pixels. Being on your death bed in a hospital for months, pixels on a screen mean a lot more to you then 20 minutes in a sports car.

It was definitely because he was selling the mount, I distinctly remember seeing the thread for it, with a bunch of people questioning if it was him, and was later confirmed to be the mount owner Very, very shortly after the auction was closed and the thread locked, mentioning that the mount had been taken from his inventory, and I even personally checked the armory to see it was gone

i've been playing wow since the end of vanilla and ever since i've first seen someone on the zul gurub tiger i wanted to get one. i spent the bc and wotlk years farming zul gurub and then on the 6th of september 2009 i finally managed to get the tiger and the raptor, both in the same run. probably still the best moment i ever had in the game up until now.
There is also a couple other mounts that MAY be considered rare. The original pvp mounts because originaly, you only needed level 55 and 75 riding skill to use them, and of course Commander rank to buy it, but these were 100% speed mounts. And they were the ONLY epic speed mounts for level 55+ ever in the game and also the only epic speed mounts that did not require epic riding skill AAAAAND also the only mounts that did not need the specific racial training, like tiger riding...Yeah folks, you NEEDED to get exalted with Darnasus if you wanted to ride a tiger in vanilla, so you could learn tiger riding. The only 2 mounts that did not require tiger riding were the black war tiger and the zulian tiger. With the death of the previous pvp system, the mounts were reworked to be just like any other epic mount.

7:04 you forgot the Blue Qiraj Mount you can get via Archaeology added in Cataslysm. It's usable outdoors (ground only) and kinda rare. I know it is not a 'rare classic' Mount but you mentioned the revamped ZG mounts answell =)
I think it would be cool to see this for the rest of the expansions just to see how the game has changed when it comes to mounts that you can find and how to get them
Ahh the memories, I got the Zulian Tiger on my 30th run and Death Charger Reins on my 54th run in BC. I also bought the Riding Turtle for like 500g in game..

Not to be that kind of person, but in classic, 1 guy in the Guild APES got the winterspring frostsaber like first week or something crazy. And again, The black Qiraji battle tank, Maitoz Guild leader of APES did it from start to finish on his stream in 23 hours
Nahh, exclusive items are nice to have and are a thing to be proud of. If everything would be able to get at all times, why would you want to play for several years if a newcomer can have all the same things? Exclusive items separate old players from new ones and I think that’s good.

Proud owner of Swift Razzashi Raptor and yes RNG was nuts to get one, as per Rivendare's Deathcharger I got that mount farming for a few hours (like 5 a day) in 6 months with another two of my friends of mine.
I am *STILL* to this day SO pissed that the devs for whatever reason pulled the epic white raptor from availability the literal DAY I was planning on buying it. I had farmed up my 5,000 gold across my characters, and the game gave the notice that servers were coming down in 15 minutes. I didn't have enough time to move all my gold to my troll hunter to go buy the mount and I had been playing for like 12 hours that day anyway, so I thought, I'll get it when the servers come back up. Turns out that was a BIG MISTAKE. The patch notes said that it had been removed. No explanation, just a basic screw you to me. My keyboard paid the price for Blizzard's insolence. Edit: You were wrong in the video... It wasn't 1,000 gold for the epic mount, it was *5,000* gold!
I was in a guild with a guy on the Warsong server, his name was Minielf.. I cannot verify, but I do believe he was a blizzard employee with some inside information. He was a gnome mage, he saved up the money and bought the pure white wintersaber before you could turn in TONS of runecloth for other factions reputation. So he couldn't even use it until a future patch that was AFTER they changed them to armored. I still remember him to this day so that says something about the impact it had.
Ive played on and off since about 4 months after launch and a whole lot from classic to MoP and man that swift zullian tiger is still such a sore spot lol. Its one of those I farmed religiously on multiple characters every single week and never got it to drop and with it getting removed its one of just a couple mounts or titles that ive missed out on over the years that it still bums me out to this day lol. Ive occasionally looked to try and get it off the black market AH but no luck.
I feel like that first mount something is off with your description because I don't remember a quest so much as endlessly farming those furry guys for their drops to turn in. I never got the mount, just the little summon-able pet that could do a little bit of damage.

I started soloing Baron Rivendare with my mage during the first week of Feb 2008, did a total of 3 runs and got the deathcharger at the last run. I still remember the moment I saw that mount dropped for me.
Guaranteed drop mounts from hard modes started in WotLK (OS 3D mounts, Mimirons Head...) 4:40. In Cata, there were first changes to 1% drop chance of those mounts, as they would be too easy to obtain.
I was never patient enough to farm rare mounts. I spent all my RNG luck when, in WotLK, I got a Sea Turtle and the Turtles All the Way Down achievement the very day they released the mount, on the second school I fished in within just an hour or two of the servers coming back up after the patch. Didn't get a server first, though, so either someone else got just as insanely lucky as I did, or there wasn't a server first achievement for it.
Based on casual gold gains I feel like 1000g in vanilla is more around 10k in shadowlands prepatch 500k? Imagine doing blackrock foundry for half a year to save up for that (222 weeks in shadowlands gold nerfs) 1000g you can casually make 100g a day just by running dungeons without even trying to goldfarm in classic
Guaranteed 100% for hard tasks wasnt that added in wotlk and not cata? I remember that Mimirons head and Invincible had a 100% drop rate with hard mode fight 25 on Yogg and 25HC for LK and changed to a low drop in 4.0
IMO they should have kept mounts that rare. They could have added new ones, but I would have liked them all to be hard to obtain. Like every mount I have I really have done something for.
One thing about the Vanilla Wintersaber grind... You bought the mount from a vendor that is on Darnassus rep. You either had to be a Night Elf or be Exalted with Darnassus to buy it. If I remember right, it was the normal mount vendor.

I was a human in vanilla and when I hit 60 I was still saving up for my epic mount. Then I found out you could grind NE rep to get a nightsaber mount. I spent about a month running morrowgrain back and forth until exalted. So my first epic mount was the nightsaber. I think the wintersaber was my second mount grind.
The player with the mechanostrider mount tried selling his account. Blizzard caught wind and banned his account thus sending this mount to the twisting nether.
The reason undead had armored mounts from the beginning is most likely because they already had the model for it. Vanilla WoW release was a pretty rushed affair which is why it had so many hidden stuff in it.
Even though it was a name change (though I'm sure there's lore implications to use in future I suspect)...It was Baron Rivendare in classic / vanilla, I think the change in name was in WotLK when Naxx was re-introduced. Side note, the sentence in brackets, I only say lore implications because I suspect at some point the boss will be used in some way for DK's or something, but cos it's a classic dungeon, I doubt he will be given the whole "secure Aurius cos he's the barons son" thing.
What's special about Rivendare's Deathcharger is that it is the exact same appearance as Arthas' mount in WarCraft 3. It's the only ground mount my DK's use, and they're the only ones that use it, for that reason.
Oh man that idea about Taurens to run as fast a mount instead of riding them was in my opinion awesome! Ah Chris Metzen and others...those were the days.

I still remember getting the swift Razzashi Raptor on my nelf hunter. It was in a pug group, my first ever kill on mandokir and i rolled 100.

Guaranteed drop mounts from hard modes started in WotLK (OS 3D mounts, Mimirons Head...) 4:40. In Cata, there were first changes to 1% drop chance of those mounts, as they would be too easy to obtain.

I was never patient enough to farm rare mounts. I spent all my RNG luck when, in WotLK, I got a Sea Turtle and the Turtles All the Way Down achievement the very day they released the mount, on the second school I fished in within just an hour or two of the servers coming back up after the patch. Didn't get a server first, though, so either someone else got just as insanely lucky as I did, or there wasn't a server first achievement for it.
Based on casual gold gains I feel like 1000g in vanilla is more around 10k in shadowlands prepatch
500k? Imagine doing blackrock foundry for half a year to save up for that (222 weeks in shadowlands gold nerfs)
1000g you can casually make 100g a day just by running dungeons without even trying to goldfarm in classic

Guaranteed 100% for hard tasks wasnt that added in wotlk and not cata? I remember that Mimirons head and Invincible had a 100% drop rate with hard mode fight 25 on Yogg and 25HC for LK and changed to a low drop in 4.0
IMO they should have kept mounts that rare. They could have added new ones, but I would have liked them all to be hard to obtain. Like every mount I have I really have done something for.
One thing about the Vanilla Wintersaber grind... You bought the mount from a vendor that is on Darnassus rep. You either had to be a Night Elf or be Exalted with Darnassus to buy it. If I remember right, it was the normal mount vendor.

I was a human in vanilla and when I hit 60 I was still saving up for my epic mount. Then I found out you could grind NE rep to get a nightsaber mount. I spent about a month running morrowgrain back and forth until exalted. So my first epic mount was the nightsaber. I think the wintersaber was my second mount grind.
The player with the mechanostrider mount tried selling his account. Blizzard caught wind and banned his account thus sending this mount to the twisting nether.

The reason undead had armored mounts from the beginning is most likely because they already had the model for it. Vanilla WoW release was a pretty rushed affair which is why it had so many hidden stuff in it.

Hello there! Can anyone tell me what piece of music starts playing at 2:52? I've heard it before and I've been trying to track it down for ages!
Even though it was a name change (though I'm sure there's lore implications to use in future I suspect)...It was Baron Rivendare in classic / vanilla, I think the change in name was in WotLK when Naxx was re-introduced.
Side note, the sentence in brackets, I only say lore implications because I suspect at some point the boss will be used in some way for DK's or something, but cos it's a classic dungeon, I doubt he will be given the whole "secure Aurius cos he's the barons son" thing.
What's special about Rivendare's Deathcharger is that it is the exact same appearance as Arthas' mount in WarCraft 3. It's the only ground mount my DK's use, and they're the only ones that use it, for that reason.

Oh man that idea about Taurens to run as fast a mount instead of riding them was in my opinion awesome! Ah Chris Metzen and others...those were the days.
