      Tony & Chelsea Northrup hello Sir, I am currently looking into buying a used D610(3k clicks) for $630usd($800cdn).
      Do you think its worth buying this over d750(price wise)?Is d610 still relevant in 2017?
      Currently, I use my t3i to take my sons picture.

      @@Lofirider - I reply to this if this is okay as new people might join the trail, therefore it could be helpful for them as well. Yes, 610 is still relevant even in 2020, no issue/recalls have been identified thus far (not that I know of), d750 might have a slight advantage in a few areas, but not significant. I do have them both, 750 is great, so is the 610. No issue with any of them. By the way, some 750 have been recalled for shutter issue, Nikon should be fixing them for free. Run the serial number on Nikon's website first. For the money and performance, I would be happy to go with either of them, combines with some great lenses, non of them will disappoint you.

    Tony recommends Nikon D610 for portrait shooters or D810 if you have the money. Tony recommends D750 for sports and wildlife photography because it has the focusing system of D810 and sensor of D610. Tony also says you could buy D610 and spend the difference you would have paid for D810 on studio lights, a trip to someplace exciting, or to buy Tamron 70-200mm f/2.8 lens.

    After watching many videos I feel that Nikon's cameras seem to be catering to specific segments. D610 for amateurs moving into FX; D750 for photo-journalists to shoot over the heads of others with a flip screen and quickly send photos to their editors with Wi-Fi; D810 for high end professionals, landscapes, commercial photographers etc. and D5 for sports and action photographers. D500 is for wildlife and bird photography. D610 does not qualify for Nikon's NPS which is a clear indication that it is aimed at enthusiasts. So choose your camera based on your needs.

    I bought the D610. Used, with an accessory bundle and wi fi adaptor for $500.00. (Amazon) A no brainer for me, the flat out best value I will refer to your book for lenses, which I bought along with, "Stunning digital photography"....years ago.
    They collect dust because my wife is so..not into all that. But I am now, so they will be used!

    On your next videos, you might include good close shots of the MENU setup as a user would see it, and discuss what is faster and easier to use as such - as in button improvements on the outside and what's the best to read and view on the camera's screen such as in sunlight, etc. Talk about the feel, and ease of handling, etc. and maybe your favorite lens or lenses and uses for a particular camera.

    For the street and portrait photography that I'm currently enjoying, the D610 + the 35mm & 85mm 1.8G lenses will do EVERYTHING I need and more. In addition, I usually center recompose so the extra focus points aren't a deal breaker for me. The money saved will be used to travel to Europe to take some pics 🤭

    • @vantoth6674
      @vantoth6674 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Totally agree Alex. That is what we have. Just not long ago, we've added an AI Nikon 105mm f2.5 and a Samyang 135mm f2. Just could not resist the temptation for the price and reputation. Probably you know them, if not check them out. The Nikon 105mm f2.5 is an Icon on its own (Afgan Girl) and the Samyang is almost unbeatable for its clarity and boke, etc. Both are manual focus, however, if/when you get it right, you will be thrilled with the outcome. Buying any of those you will not regret. The Nikon goes for about £150 or so, the Samyang for about 270-300 (both used in mint to excellent condition). I ordered my Nikon from Japan, the Samyang from a UK reputable shop with 6 months warranty.

    When comparing the d750 and d810 did you find the grip better on either? also other than 1/8000 shutter speed and mp do you feel that the d750 is about the same and if you don't have loads of cash to spend it's worth saving?

      Vernon Nash This and the D750 preview are probably all you'll see from us about the D750; we're not planning a full review. Sorry! A review like this takes us about a full week, so we have to be selective, but I do feel like we know the D750 pretty well at this point.

    Hi, what would be the recommendation for travel (and landscape)? I really torn between the D810 and D750. True the extra Mpix may be a difference worth while for that category... but so is the weight (and size to a lesser degree), IMHO.
    You just carry the gear a lot longer/further then when you do almost any other kind of photography.

    Hello
    I am upgrading to a full frame and considering three combos : D750+85mm1.8G vs D610+Tamron70-200f2.8 Di VC (or Nikon70-200f4) vs 6D+Canon135mmf2L. The reason I am comparing these is that I am into portrait and each of these three combos would cost me the same and I cannot afford more at this moment. Apart from the fact that 135mm is very different from 85mm or a zoom is more versatile, I'd like to know which combo is better for portrait. I'd like to have reliable peripheral focus points because the focus and recompose technique wouldn't be reliable with a medium-long focal length wide open. I would really appreciate it if you could share with me your view on my choices.

    I'm getting my 70D replaced under warranty as the outer AF points were causing blurred images compared to the centre AF point. Anyway I had the choice to add more money and upgrade to a 6D or a D610 with 50mm 1.4 but I ended up choosing another 70D. I'm wishing I chose the d610 after watching this as it looks a good upgrade to the 70D although it doesn't seem to have the same bells and whistles as the 70D but I'm betting the image quality is superior?

    If I had the cash and willingness to switch to Nikon, I would choose either the D610 or the D750. D810 might be a little too much for me, and I like more affordable options. These Nikons sure are sublime.

    Can anyone help me on this one. , I just purchased the D610 , IQ is amazing, quick question , do you use your AEL/AFL button on the rear of the camera for focusing and have tested the setting on page 221 of the Manual, AF-S focus priority set to Focus (not releas) where the shutter should only fire when subject is in focus?
    If so can you tell me if it works, because my D610 set up this way , always fires the shutter even if subject is not in focus. I can even set the focus completely out of focus then hit the shutter button on the front of the camera and it still fires the shutter regardless.
    Mine only does this however when I set back button focus (Ael/AFLbutton set to AF ON in camera settings menu)
    Is this normal as with my D7200 I can focus with back button focus then hit the shutter button on the front and it will only take the photo if it's in focus.
    Any ideas if your D610 behaves like mine?
    Thanks

    Hey guys, I have the D610 with the Nikon 16-35mm F4 and I shoot only astrophotography. I've been trying to get more detail in my milky way shots. I want that tracked milky way look but without the tracker and the pain that comes with setting one up in the field. Should I get the D810 that has more megapixels or the 20mm F/1.8G ED prime lens and just stack a few photos of the sky for more detail?

    • @appleshampoo324
      @appleshampoo324 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Naruto AMVs you can photograph the milky way with a d3000 and a 18-55mm kitlens. Every camera can do it. Fast glass is way more important for night scapes then camerabodies. Get something wide with f/ 2.8 or less and you're more than good.

    A deciding factor for me which wasn't covered in this is the video frame rates. I do lots of real estate and people love the video. The D610 only shoots 30 at 1080 whereas the D810 shoots 60 at 1080. The D750, however, does shoot 60 at 1080 which is right in the middle of the price range between the other two. The thing that draws me towards to D810 is the fact that it has the highest megapixels of any dslr, at least between Nikon and Canon, but is it really worth the money?

    Hi Tony and Chelsea,
    Thanks for providing great contents, love the reviews. I have started watching your reviews recently because I am interested in getting myself a DSLR, last time I had an SLR was in 1994 yes that long ago! I’m going to go to an Air Show in Feb 2015 and it’s meant to be 100 Years of aviation. “Supersonic jet fighters and attack helicopters plus historic warbirds” and I want the camera & lens to handle that type of shooting (In the Air). If you don’t mind can you please share your opinion with all of us?
    I’m looking to buy the Nikon D810 Body... Plus a Tamron 150-600mm f5-6.3 lens (Don’t want to get a fixed telescopic lens) or is there a better one to do this type of work?
    And also ether a Sigma 24-105 f4 OR the Nikon 28-300mm f3.5-5.6 for closer shooting (which one do you think is better and versatile?) i'm leaning towards the Nikon cause it's a 28-300 lens.
    PLUS would also like to know if while videoing at 1080 60p can I shoot FX Raw/Jpeg continues or single photos? (At the same time)
    PS. Had a look at your book “How to Create Stunning Digital Photography” on amazon.com, I’m going to buy one. Cheers

    nice review, but when you say the speed tests 810/610 the 810 has two DIFFERENT types of card in each slot(s d / c f), d 610 has 2 s d's; on the 810 as the buffer fills, it dumps at different rates depending on which slot it is dumping to, so it is card speed dependent, not a fair comparison unless you tell us what cards/speeds are in each slot, of each body!

      Hi Edwin, depends what you are using it for, but overall, I would say the D750 or D610. The 750 would be the winner for me, given it is not under recall for shutter issue. Check the serial number and run it on Nikon's website. However, Nikon will fix it for free as far as I know. My wife and I own both, 610 and 750 and at time I see just a bit of difference only (perhaps when doing portraits). However, it is worth noting the lens my wife uses (85 mm 1.8G) that makes a difference. Now we just bought a 105mm Nikon f2 and the quality (using 610) just as good, even better at time (bokeh, colors, etc.) . Hope I was helpful.

      Mark Pitsilos That was one of the modes we tested (we tested all the modes). We didn't find significantly different results from the different groupings. For me, group AF is more useful with extreme telephoto lenses when it's difficult to keep the focusing point on the subject.

    Why so little love for the D750? It's the best choice. almost just as good as the D810 just without the insane amount of megapixels, much less expensive than the D810, only a few hundred more expensive than the D610 ($300 at the moment).

    • @youknowwho9247
      @youknowwho9247 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Watching this in 2019, and by now there's no reason anymore to buy any of these but the D810 since they all cost nearly the same. :D

    • @youknowwho9247
      @youknowwho9247 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Koalakunkku First of all, I would never buy a pro grade camera like these new. It's a waste of money. A used one does the same job and these bodies are build to last. They don't break after two years like cheap consumer electronics. I look for one with a shutter count around or below 50000 and in good condition.
      Why do I think the D750 isn't a good buy anymore? Because a D810 costs virtually the same (both used) and takes much sharper pictures. The only upside to the D750 is the tilting screen and slightly faster frame rate. So faced with that decision, I think the D810 is much better value for nearly everyone.
      There are other options, too. Say you want the faster frame rate for example, because you're an action shooter. Well, in that case a used D500 is also around the same price and does everything better than a D750, except for sensor size - but that doesn't matter as much for action.
      Or you could go for a used a7 series camera. Although I'd be careful with that - the bodies seem cheap, but the lenses are very expensive.

      @Koalakunkku The D810 goes to 7 fps in dx mode if you've got the battery grip attached. Not as convenient as what the D750 does, but for a nature shooter like myself it's still good. I like the 36 mpix for landscapes a lot. Then again, I usually use a D500 for wildlife.

    "Chelsea & I compare the Nikon D610 and D810" (using a ZOOM lens that is supposed to give you an effective ~21 Megapixels in Sharpness on the D810 and less on the D610)
    Tony, it would be nice to show the people what a D810 can do with a Sigma 35 1.4 or some of the brilliant Zeiss lenses
    We all know that generally and in this case Prime > Zoom when it comes to Performance so why compare the "detail" of the images when you took a shot with a a Zoom. Yes, Zoom can be convenient when standing away from subject, but I don't think that was the intend of your video

    Nikon D810 Excellent

  • @Razor2048
    @Razor2048 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    The issue is that with only 24.2 megapixels, you will not be able to upload many high resolution web sized photos. Now 36 megapixels is still pretty low, but if if you have a good sharp lens on it, you can get some decently detailed images that will work well when sharing photos on the web and allowing for people to pan around the image. Nikon or sony needs to develop a sensor that can still offer good high ISO performance but at around 50-100 megapixels, or for still life, add the sensor shift function (common in some medium format cameras) to allow the camera to effectively capture 4 times the sensor resolution if there is no movement.

    • @Thalestin
      @Thalestin 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      What web applications require photos of that resolution? Very few people shoot with 20 thousand dollar medium format camera...

    • @Razor2048
      @Razor2048 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      PTGearGuy I am thinking more of sites like flickr, as well as general photo sharing. A high resolution allows the photo to better explored. For example if someone takes a nice architectural photo and then uploaded at a resolution of about 2048 x 1536, then you will have people struggling to see the detail in the image. e.g., they may see a building with solar panels, and then wonder which model of solar panel is being used, but due to the low res upload, they will not be able to zoom into the image to see it.
      Or someone will take a nice picture of a tree, and upload a low res 2K image, and in the image, you notice a squirrel holding an MP3 player, but due to the low res, you cannot zoom in to see which song the squirrel was listening to.
      With web use, we have a virtually unlimited ability to pan around an image, so the goal must be to upload the highest resolution images possible. (that means if you used a 80 megapixel medium format camera, then be sure to share the full res photos, anything less and people will feel that they are not getting to experience the entire image.
