      I think that form of interaction is more subtle than Isaac can readily grasp. But he did eventually perceive the crux of the matter, that the benefit to their relationship of letting Charly assist him outweighed the transitory reduction in efficiency.

    Theory: Kaylons DO have emotions, but they exist in a way that they can't express or recognize the way humans can. Timmis (and later Isaac) wasn't really given emotions; he was given the ability to recognize and express his feelings.

      In fairness, her always being destined to die gives writers a lot more freedom to develop her character. A character intended to last the duration of a long series can only develop in minor ways without making them unrecognizable and robbing them of the charm that made them interesting in the first place. Picard only develops slightly during the original seven seasons, and we love him for it. Worf only develops slightly in Next Gen and Deep Space Nine combined, and we love him for the combination of badass warrior and funny grouch that makes him.

    When I first saw this scene I new there was potential to make Charly a great supporting character who's starting to get along with Isaac. But sadly they chose to kill her off at the end of the season.

    • @bluejays25
      @bluejays25 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I was gutted that she died but I think it was the right decision. We got a character who is angry because the Kaylon destroyed her chance of happiness and she (understandably and perhaps, justifiably) projected that onto Isaac. Burke goes on to save his life, apologizes for her behaviour while helping Isaac understand why she felt that way, and eventually is able to trust him. The line "we trust Isaac, we don't trust you" showed how much she had grown. For her to go on and sacrifice her life to stop the genocide of the Kaylon is another example of that and it led to massive consequences for the Kaylon.

      I think because of the uncertainty of a 4th season, they wanted to finish her story as intended.
      Imagine though if there was a 4th season, and there's one of those "Yesterday's Enterprise" type episodes where Charly Burke never sacrifices her life, and thus the Kaylon don't join the PU. And when they "fix" the timeline, she somehow ends up in the main timeline as well (a la Tasha Yar).

But she is also enlightened enough to understand her feelings, process and analyze them for what they are, and then when she learns more SHE CHANGES HER MIND and apologizes to his face.

      But that would change and ruin the timeline. without Charly’s death, The Kaylon would have no reason to join the union which would leave union defenceless against the kaylon and the moclan/krill alliance leaving them having to fight a war on two front. Also the union is very strict when it come to changing the timeline. Even Gordon having a family was enough to them to course correct, so as soon as the Orville found out about the time travel. They would immediately course correct it.
