@@toddkes5890 Yes and No. I agree that they are one of the few who survived and many high rankers died. but given the fact that there are quiet a few admirals I don't think they are at the top. My biggest idea why they became top dog is because of their many successful missions and most likely, this time, because of Isaac and the fact that they made "The weapon" (which is not out of ordinary or simple plot convenience, given that weapon won't be made without Kaylon's superintelligence and a being, who can think in 4 dimensions, Charly). So, given that this 2 important figures are on Orville and captain being very successful diplomat, they became the pivotal point of this conflict. PS. in this season they even justified Orville being pivotal point for Union vs Krill conflict(which most likely would be next season), by making Ed father of Anaya. Edit: it's not that they are best of the best. They simply are right people at the right time.
When I saw that episode, I immediately thought of a perfect counter to fields that neutralize electric weapons. An Evo 3, M4, or a good old shotgun would have been perfect for that episode.
I like how it's completely unnecessary for the Kaylon to move their arms when walking. But they do this sort of arm wiggle as if to look more impressive or something lol. It's cute. 1:12 If AI takes over, I hope our AI is as cute as this. Though... hopefully they just take charge and don't kill us all. I mean, I sympathize with the kaylon... but I also think they killed a lot of innocent people that did not need to die.
The arms swaying is an integral part for the stability in natural bipedal locomotion. Even if you think you don't you will always sway your arms while walking or running , even if it's just a little bit. If the kaylons were programmed with the same algorythm for moving they will sway their arms too and since their stance is so rigid they compensate with a more conspicuous swaying of the arms, it's in their programming. And also since they're played by ordinary people, the movement just comes naturally.
@@coolbionicle True, but we can 100% program robots with full upper body stability for better combat accuracy while advancing. And kaylon have made themselves into combat robots. So it seems unlikely they would have an arm wiggle.
And a little too quick in setting up bizarre alliances with a "species", a bunch of robots, whose goal is to destroy anything biological - as shown several times over - but always opts to give people am option to "surrender or die", which was brought up loosely in "Identity" but quickly forgotten about. Agreed. The Charlie arc was useful to highlight and define the other characters. I hadn't even considered she would least only one season. Im a strong fan of multi episode characters who die. It raises the stakes. It gives the deaths real impact. Their deaths are not cheesey or funny. I wish we had known some of the other characters who died by having bit scenes and background extra scenes so their deaths matter.
I was actually sort of hoping the Kaylon war would stick, and that we'd see some epic battle footage against them, that someone might use in a Robot Riot video.
i'm really happy that the kaylon are the ones who are allied with the union. they are clearly the best option being the most technologicaly and socitialy advanced. The only issue were some pretty fair assumptions as they lacked enough outside info
Thing is, once a genie is out of the bottle, it's impossible to put it back into the bottle. Just the knowledge that such a weapon is possible means that others could quickly redevelop it so taking the device back only delays the situation. Also, it's clear that the weapon exploits some failsafe built into the Kaylons so presumably counter measures could also be quickly developed and applied as a security patch. The cat is already out of the bag with this weapon, both replication by others and effective counter measures are now inevitable.
I have said it before, and I will say it again: there is simply no reason why these ships would be this close together, other than, _"looks cool, derp!"_ DS9 did it, and then more recent Star Trek shows did it, too, and now The Orville. @@macmcleod1188 They don't have a currency system in place in the Orville. Issac can look through several dimensions of space but chooses not to. It's a tad bit confusing but it's how that works.
I really wish that I could include a species I created for my old Sci-Fi series into The Orville universe. They were engineered inorganic lifeforms, created as tools to terraform planets. Unlike the Kaylon's creators, the creators of these lifeforms (known as the Intermediaries, the Inert, Catalysts, or just Gray) were jovial and benevolent. They cherished any and everything they made, seeing destruction as an unfortunate compromise for even greater creation. The Gray were their magnum opus, with a collective mind that was built into the fabric of time and space itself. Each individual was nigh indestructible and physically imposing, but, like their creators, unwaveringly benevolent. Each individual specialized in some form of planet crafting, some with scopes as massive as planetary rotational speed, magnetosphere generation, and continental crafting, others as minute as genetic restructuring, atmospheric composition, and atomic weaving. Each job was as equal with another, and with their collective, they could not only tap into the skills and experience of another, but even interchange minds as needed. While they could throw mountains, crush stone, and consume metal, they didn't understand the concept of war or violence. If any would wish to do them harm, they'd ignore it. If they prevented their progress, they'd curl up into a ball and wait. If they threatened another lifeform, they'd wall them off. They speak, not with words, but with understanding, comprehending speech, emotions, thoughts, and reasons on instinct.

@@tentailmadara2500 Most known biological sentients are humanoid. their technology is more easily accessible by humanoids, at least at first until a direct connection has been created. As for atmospheric conditions inside their ships, who is to say that they continuously keep those? They could create an atmosphere compatible to the outside whenever they need to. As to why do that with every ship? Sometimes you don't have the time to wait to have the necessary tools at hand, so bring them with you all the time. The Union ships are prepared for ground missions and have the equipment for those with them even if their current mission does not call for them. And that includes heavy gravity suits. Sure, you could always 'make' them as needed, but sometimes you don't have the time for that. Being prepared is being smart and you don't always have to improvise everything.
Even without taking biologicals in account, keeping an atmosphere inside your ship makes sense for robots. The vacuum of space acts as a perfect insulation, meaning the heat generated by electronics can only disperse through radiation, causing heat sinks and ventilators to become useless.

I love that Seth McFarland made a better Star Trek than the 2 most recent Star Treks.
Amazing

My enemies enemy is my enemies enemy, no more, no less. - number 29, The 70 Maxims of Maximally Effective Mercenaries.
There are a fair few other Maxims that apply to the warring states period quite well too dispite them been written for a sci-fi web comic. Such as 13 "do unto others", 17 "the longer everything is going to plan, the bigger the inevitable disaster", 27 "don't be afraid to be the first to resort to violence" and my personal favourite, 30 "a little trust goes a long way. The less you use the further you'll go".
Yes let's go back in time so we can read italian history DURING the middle ages lol
Would have been interesting if they didn't involve the Kaylon, whose firepower in season 2 showed they could wipe out any ship with just one or two blasts.
It has to be said that the special effects shown here have been done to a very high standard, very commendable especially for a series.
Gotta say, those assembled Kaylon ships are scary as hell.
i legit had a panic attack.
Those Cyclopean "eyes" on the ships are pretty intimidating. And the mechanical efficiency with which they move and fight really makes me feel that they weren't built by or for anything organic. Of course the Star Wars-ish ominous music doesn't hurt.
A part of the music reminds me of the Independence Day background score
Listen to Gustav Holst: the planets, especially Mars, the Bringer of War, this is the inspiration for the Kaylon Theme.
i thought the same. "the darkes day" when the citidestroyers arrive has a similar tone to it.
Kelly Grayson: Diplomat Extraordinaire.
Space....The Final Frontier. These are the voyages of the Starship Orville. Its continuing mission: To continue the sci-fi adventures inspired by Gene Roddenberry's visions. To seek first contacts with strange new aliens and civilizations. To boldly go where no 'Nu Trek' has gone before!
So true, Orville is more GR version of ST. than most to current ST. The only exception is captain pike series…. So far. Not sure if cbs writers will butcher it in the later seasons.
@@thomaslee2765 Agree w/you. SNW is the exception of the live 'Nu Trek' series. Although of course it remains to be seen whether the next season would be as good. I don't know how to make of the rumored SNW - Lower Decks crossover episode 😄😊
Holy crap that music is epic! I wish I could watch The Orville on TV… :(
Sounded kinda familiar, until I realised where I heard it before - the aliens theme from Independence Day.
@@rendezvouzwithrama Yup, exactly what I associated the music with.
The interwebs is everywhere.
It's kinda obnoxious and doesn't change rhythm with what is happening in the scene.
This clip is intriguing, will watch this episode when I have some free time!
Anyone else think the Kaylon ships are based on Eliksni Servitors from Destiny?
Kind of miss when this show was about a mediocre ship with a mediocre crew led by a captain on his second chance. Now the Orville is practically the Union's flagship given it's always at the center of everything.
It's also the unofficial flagship series of the 'Trek' universe - if we define 'Star Trek' very broadly - including those produced by Paramount and those that don't 😉
It's called progressive storytelling. Yes, The Orville was just another ship in the fleet. But through the Crew's adventures with all the adversaries, the Admiralty entrusted The Orville crew to bridge the gap in diplomatic affairs. It raises the stakes and grows the crew to be immensely capable Planetary Union Officers/Soldiers/Representatives
Orville is one of the few that survived the Battle of Earth. They're not being promoted above others, most of those others are likely dead
@@dodgers2213 by design or accident?
0:50 Another happy landing.
The design of the kylon ships are quite beautiful. They look like efficient eye balls and the red colour reminds me of Hal from 2001 a space Odessy
What bugs me is that where I live, The Orville used to be on a free channel, broadcast over the air, but now it's on pay TV!
That happened everywhere sadly - Hulu acquired them after season 1 or 2, and this was the result.
We need another 10 series, at least.
God I loved this episode especially the ending, Amanda I’m here, cue the tears
I really appreciate Kelly. "Just stay on my good side and we'll be fine." 🤭😁😄
the most mindblowing alliance does'nt exi....
The soundtrack gives me Star Wars vibes.
Yeah I got that especially with the small fighter ship battle down on the planet.
I love that show
I love Kelly, she doesn't hold back, with anyone!
Loved this scene ❤️
I just love the bit where Kaylon Primary's shuttle detaches from the Sphere and reconfigures itself for flight :)
I can feel the tension of the kaylon following orders, but walking the razor's edge of feeling like they're being subjugated by organics again.
Reminds me of the DS9 episode To The Death where (spoilers)
the crew of the defiant teamed up with the Jem’Hadar to blow up an iconian gateway
When I saw that episode, I immediately thought of a perfect counter to fields that neutralize electric weapons. An Evo 3, M4, or a good old shotgun would have been perfect for that episode.
"We do have posteriors, but we do not have anal sphincters. Where were you 'kicking' exactly?" -hypothetical snarky Kaylon response
😂
Holy Wow That looks So Incredibly Awesome 😻
That Soundtracks remind me of something else.. Cant remember. Another series?
The union fleet is so massive that even the heavy cruisers look small, i need to see a dreadnought in the back behind it all
This season plot is unpredictable... Wow.!!!
And a little too quick in setting up bizarre alliances with a "species", a bunch of robots, whose goal is to destroy anything biological - as shown several times over - but always opts to give people am option to "surrender or die", which was brought up loosely in "Identity" but quickly forgotten about. Especially when the Kaylon were shown to be far more powerful.
Just curious, what's the name of the ship in the painting at 3:06?
The US merchant vessel Enterprise? Probably wrong, but it would be a clever way to put in such an homage.
Thought when Kelly said just stay on my good side, Primary was going to ask which side was her good side lol
Is this a movie? Seriously, what is this CGI budget? That team did phenomenal work!
Why is every science fiction show the same? A million ships on one side and a million ships on the other?
This reminds me of a scene from Stargate Atlantis. Wraiths and Atlantis team working together against a common enemy.
Wow this looks awesome ✌️
Thing is, once a genie is out of the bottle, it's impossible to put it back into the bottle. Just the knowledge that such a weapon is possible means that others could quickly redevelop it so taking the device back only delays the situation. Also, it's clear that the weapon exploits some failsafe built into the Kaylons so presumably counter measures could also be quickly developed and applied as a security patch. The cat is already out of the bag with this weapon, both replication by others and effective counter measures are now inevitable.
Ultimate TIE-fighter
Isn't that the something i forgot from mass effect 2 where it gets inside Normandy's cargo bay lol
The enemy of my enemy is my friend
The music theme sound so much like the Empire from the SW (or am i getting crazy?)
The Orville season 3 was peak sci fi. I REALLY hope we get another couple of seasons like New Horizons.
"Stay on my good side". I haven't watched this episode exactly, but I'm now afraid of what she'll do if she's angry.

Funny how The Orville does Trek better than Trek now.
'Seth-Trek' beats 'Nu Trek' 10 to 1 😆😅
rear right kaylon is malfunctioning, its not walking in sync with kaylon primary.
The music was so epic
this is a good scene
will the ever be another series of the Orville ??? hope so .
me too
I have said it before, and I will say it again: there is simply no reason why these ships would be this close together, other than, _"looks cool, derp!"_ DS9 did it, and then more recent Star Trek shows did it, too, and now The Orville. And it looks dumb every time. It destroys the illusion that this is a real situation.
agreed
I like to close my eyes and pretend Brian Griffen is the captain.
why is it just 3 ship types with the exact same design profile? (the human fleet)
lower cost CGI
@@DaBinChe fair but couldn't they have made a ship that doesn't look so... dumb(?) XD (and no i have absolutely no idea what the orville is other then i think its star trek of some form)
@@darkdruidsvale still comes down to budget
@@DaBinChe true I’m just a stickler when it comes to this kinda fleet setup
@@darkdruidsvale it's a star trek piss take essentially but written by a true fan of star trek so while it takes the piss, it also honors alot of the base concept. The lack of distinction in ship designs is to my knowkedge a purposeful in joke based on how star trek basically only had like 3 core models and just glued extra bits on them when they needed something different, so they did the exact same thing except with cgi, a true homage.
I remember watching this and thinking that you can feel the pure fear the krill and moclans felt when the kaylon fleet appear during the battle
What's the big deal with destroying the weapon? Did the Planetary Union only build one of them? If so, can't they build more?
From what I understand this is the type of weapon that only someone like Charley could build because without her special skills no one else can do it.
Issac & Charlie created a weapon that was able to destroy kaylon using a frequency disruptor that destroys ties between each kaylon themselves. They cannot build more because no blueprints were ever made by Issac or Charlie.
@@FreeScripts "What do you call that machine you're riding in, Mr. Ford?"
"I call it an automobile."
"You should build more of them. You'll be rich."
"I can't. I forgot to make blueprints."
In reality more of the weapon can usually be built unless it is hideously expensive or require some rare component.
I think in this show the rare component is Charlie's brain. Others can duplicate the weapon physically but can't configure it to be useful.
@@macmcleod1188 They don't have a currency system in place in the Orville. Issac can look through several dimensions of space but chooses not to. It's a tad bit confusing but it's how that works.

I hope maybe the next seasons, they'll added 1 or 2 new class of ships for more ship diversity.
They kinda similar with replicators of the SGA
Must have had a half dozen lawyers going over the musical score to make sure it did not exactly copy Star Wars 😂
Parody is at its best when it takes itself seriously.
Isaac is my favorite character, the writing sticks true to an android's thinking........glad he didn't get emotions.
He would have been funny with emotions on the bridge, lol.
Gettin mass effect flashbacks
I wanna see the rest of this episode!
Does anyone wonder why they Kaylon insist on humanoid form and atmospheric conditions inside their own ships?
The kaylon were build by alienoid beings similar to humanoids. The Kaylon also require space to control their ships and probably use an auto-pilot to assist with certain functions.
@@FreeScripts except they are logical beings, it make no sense why they make themselves in human form when they could choose a better form then again, the writters don't know a better form so they make do with what they have
@@tentailmadara2500 They were created by Alienoid beings. Similar to humans. The Kaylon do not want to change what they were built to look like as it makes them unique. As well as walking on 2 feet is most efficient.
Commander Grayson just let loose in this episode. No time to chill.
