      You can do this. U must soak for only 4-5min, scrub with Dawn. When completely dry inside and out, apply 2-3 liberal coats of olive oil. Most well made spoons will have been impregnated with olive oil when made, for protection. Soaking to long will make it more porous and possibly split, leading to bacteria and rot. Applying the 2-3 liberal coats of olive oil will continue to protect ur spoons. Be careful and keep close eye on spoons for a week or two after doing this.

    Oh gosh, no no no. Those spoons need their protective oil!!! Wooden cutting boards and utensils need to be oiled (food grade oils) regularly for protection. Otherwise they will split, harbor even MORE bacteria in nooks and crannies, and become brittle and splinter/break down.

    • @spektra6755
      @spektra6755 ปีที่แล้ว

      emm, excuse me but wooden utensils are the only 100% non-toxic tools you can find.
      Downside is that you have to take care of them.
      Metal utensils can leech heavy metals into your food, especially when cooking acidic foods and i hope i don't have to explain how bad is heated plastic, right?
      So in order to have something non-toxic as a given, you have to use these that require maintenance, and if you don't maintain them they will also become toxic by leeching tiny particles of food in and out of your wooden utensils while cooking and chemical substances from washing liquids.
      So you have to wash the with baking soda, vinegar, lemon etc. unless you find a natural dish washing soap which i have yet to come across.

    Do not do this. Wash them with hot soapy water. If you want, use vinegar. But they will split with this. Use food safe oil(walrus oil is great, but otherwise mineral oil) to help keep the wood hydrated so it doesn't absorb the crap in the first place.

    Don't wash your wooden spoons with boiling water. It washes off the oil that protects the wood. Instead scrub it with a gentle scouring pad until it's clean and then use a SMALL amount of soap and a wash cloth or sponge to wash and disinfect it from there to ensure a long healthy use. You almost wash them the same as cast iron. You can also polish them and rub them with a food safe wood oil like linseed oil to make them like new and give them a fresh oil coat

Soap and water sparingly after use, then dry thoroughly so moisture doesn’t linger. Not all advice is good advice. Always check credentials, especially if it involves food or utensils used in the preparation of food. Or at least google food safe ways to clean wooden spoons.

    If there are real wooden floors in that household, I can only imagine what they look like if they're being cleaned this way lol. You are never to do this to wood because it will warp, split and possibly even curl. Not to mention, it'll become susceptible to things absorbing into it because it's porous (That's why so much ick came out when the hot water was poured over it). Just get some high temp silicone cooking utensils and you can deep clean all you like lol. Then again, do what you like and live your best life. Whatever the standard is that you've set in your household is good enough. 👍🏽 😂

    Pouring hot water onto absorbent wood will only damage then and cause mold to grow
    handwash and dry alqays
    considering how dirty her spoons were I doubt she does dishes
