    It is funny how personal taste can differ. I absolutely love the touch-buttons on my ID4. It took an hour or two of driving before I got the hang of it, but after that I have found the functionality of especially the cruise control buttons far superior to any physical buttons (or stalks) I have ever used.
    There is one thing I wonder about the Enyaq that no reviewer have commented on: The placement of the cup holders in the center console, how does it work in practical use? Can you still easily access the row of physical buttons below the air vents If there are two normal sized drink bottles in the cup holders?

      Ok that is Not optimal but you have the Chance to use the Buttons if you do Not use the Cup holder. If you use the id4 you have no Chance all time. the Enyaq is For drivers and Users the id4 is More a stylisch Car which a lot of practical Problems and the quality of the Material its a lot Better in the Enyaq. Finaly the Enyaq is 15 to 20 % cheaper.

Also the home screen can be fully tailored with widgets. inforainment can be set up as you prefer and like the same way as your iOS or Android. There are hundreds possible combinations. 🙂

    Thank you so much for fighting the good fight for sensible, convenient/easy, safe and solid controls at the drivers seat! Even though I love the ACC buttons at the steering wheel (with silver -/+ 10 km/h buttons) on the Golf 7,5 GTE I agree the Skoda ACC stick is better since it can be used blindfolded on muscle memory alone... VW is on a wrong path...

    Great video, Kris! This may be a case of “the grass is always greener,” but from your description of the various things that are better in the Škoda Enyaq than the ID.4, it makes me wish we could get the Enyaq and other Škoda vehicles in North America! Real buttons on the steering wheel-wow, imagine that! ;-)

    Fully agree with all your points, mine are similar:
    - buttons on the steering wheel (better feedback)
    - cruise control on stalk lever (much more ergonomic)
    - regen paddles ... if they once increase regen, so that the highest level is a 1-pedal-mode
    - cockpit display is not too close, like in the ID.x's
    - the big center screen, even if - as I learnt - the resolution is not used to the max, as it makes better use of the options.
    (in fact: nobody needs the sliders)
    when I tried it I found that they still need to refine the logic behind. If you are in a settings screen, tthe system seems to be locked against short cut keys leading you out of that menu.
    And yes, I also think the ID.4's exterieur shows a more modern car. The Enyaq is close to a classic Skoda.
    But I also prefer the power roof (Enyaq) compared to a static glass roof (VW ID).

    Hi, good review which reflects what I found having driven both. Was fortunate enough to rent a brand new ID4 (only 47km on the clock) for a trip across Norway from Bergen in the west to Bø in the east (roughly 350 km if you take the ferry across the fjord). Overall a fantastic vehicle, great to drive except for the numerous small irritations caused by the primary and secondary controls. Just to state what kind of person I am, and what perspective I'm coming from - I'm a gadget lover, an avid driver, with a engineering past, have trained as a driving instructor and I'm currently working in software development. Touch sensitive controls on a steering wheel that you're in contact with all the time, is completely idiotic (from all perspectives) in my opinion - but it's made worse by the inconsistency of function. The cruise control speed adjustment couldn't make its mind up whether it wanted to go up 1 km/h or up to the nearest 10 km/h every time I pressed it - so I gave up and ended up just using the set button all the time while adjusting the speed manually. This was after trying various attempts to figure out if it was something to do with exactly where or how long I was pressing the buttons. The touch sensitive shortcut buttons on the dashboard aren't much better - you're never sure exactly how long you're supposed to hold your finger on them. As for the gear selector being where it is - it's probably just a matter of habit, but I wasn't too keen and it felt cheap (but you're not using it that often, so it's not a big issue really) . In fact directly comparing the two interiors overall, the VW felt cheap (which is a shame because the overall physical driving experience was fantastic in both cars). Additional irritations in the ID4 were door handles, both inside and out as well as a few issues with the infotainment system (not so much the use, as illogical choices made by VW - like the cilma page resetting to the home screen after 30 seconds - you might be able to adjust this, but I couldn't be bothered to figure it out). The placement of the parking brake button is also a bit of mystery (it's ok once you know where it is, but finding it in the first place is a trial - the driver cannot actually see it from the normal driving position). The door handles on the outside are non-mechanical 'squeeze the inside of the handle' buttons which my son got incredibly irritated with as it generally took him 3 or 4 goes to squeeze the button correctly to open the door (I thought he was going to try and rip the door off the car at one point). On the inside - in the space of one day- 3 of us had the skin on our hands pinched by the door handles. Finally, the wing mirror adjustment control is a little joystick which can be twisted to 8 different positions (even though only 4 of them are relevant) - it's the same in the skoda, but there is one tiny difference - in the skoda, they have a little line on the top of the joystick, so that you can see which of the positions it is currently pointing at (but nothing in the VW). One week after doing the drive, I test drove a brand new Enyaq 80x - all the irritations I had in the ID4 are not present in the skoda - so for me it was a no-brainer, I ordered the skoda last week 🙂

    I have owned an ID3 for about 6 months now and almost immediately realized that you can adjust the screens to your own preference.
    In the meantime I have unlearned scrolling through screens. Now I just ask the id and it gives me the correct screen. Likewise for navigation. When you use the right sentences and words, it really works almost flawlessly.

You can also choose how many squares/widgets you have on the screens. I bet you can do that on Skoda also. I would like to have that row with temp adjustment tho. Really stupid to not have lights on the buttons on ID, especially when the shortcut button bellow have lights.

    Hi Kris, once again a nice video :-) I agree with most of your opinions and conclusions. I love ŠKODAs and used to sell them myself, and drive a ID.3 First Max at the moment. I totally agree that the infotainment system and interiors of the ID cars have their faults and strange designs, and I personally prefer ŠKODAs take on the interior, however I like the exterior of the ID cars more. It is very obvious that ŠKODA designed the Enyaq to be very much in line with the design of their ICE line-up, giving a EV a fake ICE-like front grill/‘air intake’ - to me personally that is a shame and I would probably consider the ID.4 just because of this, even though I like the interior of the Enyaq more ... Keep up the good work!

    Thanks @kris rifa. Great explanation to your position in this and you brought up things you dont notice during short test drives - but still think Id4 is an overall better car ;) I ordered the Q4 though.
    1. I didnt know ID4 had so much worse infotainment than skoda - things I didnt test and notice during my test drive but good to know
    2. I guess we all like different things - I do like ID4 over skoda because a higher quality steering wheel in my opinion and also do appreciate piano black plastic including the door handles feeling and finnish in the center console which makes id4 have a more premium feel to me. These two things are quite important for me. I am used to that in my c class (also piano blackish center console).
    3. Again - havent really used the steering wheel buttons on id4 altough I prefer the feeling over the physical buttons used on enyaq. I hope Q4 could combine the best out of two worlds.
    4. Yes, ID4 has much better exterior only second to Q4 - I could be biased on my interpretation of enyaq having worse interior quality because of that.

    • @chrischild3667
      @chrischild3667 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Other than Teslas, no cars preheat the battery at the moment. Warming the battery is intensive especially when coupled with cabin preheating too. It drains the battery a lot. A lot of cars offer cabin preheating as others here have said already. I think the future Hyundai/Kia EVs may offer it.
      Closest thing you can do to battery preheating is to charge the car using a timer so that it finishes at your departure time, this will add a little heat to the battery.

    Why do every reporter testing electric SUV so surprised over the consumption? ...hello? WAKE UP!? It's a SUV with so many faults.. high drag due to wrong body style (SUV), heavy vehicle 2000+ kg and big massive wheels. Tesla M3 saved 15% energy changing from 20 to 18 inch wheels. A SUV will have 40-100% higher energy consumption vs regular cars due to the factors I mentioned. Also higher ground clearance between the road and car body increase the drag and air resistance. It's contradictory to build a electric SUV, it's totally wrong.. and waste of so much energy. Let's go back to regular cars with 16 inch wheels and height of 1,5 meter and weight under 1800 kg... and you can use smaller battery pack, longer range and better car handling and characteristics. Regular cars as they was before SUV trend kicked in, have much better comfort and today's car industry is going in the wrong direction since people buy the wrong models. Are we confident with regular cars not longer being produced and used.. and everyone have a SUV? We also need to act on climate change, and everyone do his/her best to maximise energy consumption with SUV cars....why?? (Sorry for the SUV rant here..but my main reason is that MPV is a better choice over SUV if you need space and we need to drive smaller and more efficient cars overall).

    The ID4 and Enyac have different design ethics. The ID4 is minimalist aimed at a younger demographic.
    As to the infotainment. The Enyac has some hardware issues such as the silly ACC module position, no driver tilted screen and awful rolling volume controls.
    The ID4 needs further software updates which will happen on the next 3 to 6 months.
    ID4 is a much more attractive and modern car for my tastes.

      The acc Module Position is the best ever in Enyaq . I Drive the id3 and i Laugh About that stupid touch. The Enyaq is For Users and drivers the id4 is online a stylisch Car With funktional Problems .

    For me the enyaq has 2 main faults from interior point:
    - the screen is not enough oriented to driver making it weird/uncomfortable to use while driving. I had feeling I need to move from my normal driving position to use it.
    - the door handling is both poorly design and feel cheap.
    But overall agree better than ID4 (I hate the wheel)

      That is what I like about Skoda. My husband and I like going on roadtrips, so we take turns driving. If the screen is focussed on the driver the passenger/co-pilot has a worse view and can't help. I mean I might put some music on...change the route or what ever.
      Each to their own. :)

    • @kamelie1706
      @kamelie1706 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@starvictory7079 true but from safety point the driver is more important than the co pilot. The more stuff moves the driver away from the road in front the more you increase accident risk…. Of course it depends how much you balance safety vs convenience or you consider the screen to be operated primarily by the co driver.

    • @starvictory7079
      @starvictory7079 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kamelie1706 Well, I guess it depends on the car model. Ours has all the info needed in front of the wheel. No safety issues if I put some music on or look at the SOC while my husband drives.

    • @kamelie1706
      @kamelie1706 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@starvictory7079 I guess music is not the problem … you can use the wheel control but what about the climatisation, the heating seat and the gps? Are they all accessible from the driver screen or the wheel? If not then it means you need a co driver to drive safe … not sure this is a progress :-D On the other side heads up display is a nice one … but not available for some reason on basic interior. At the end if you feel comfortable to use the screen while driving good for you … I could not find a natural position to do so without moving from driving position while it was easy in ID4 … need to try again!

      @@kamelie1706 We don't have an enyaq. I just prefer having a screen that I can access if I am not the driver.
      The climate controls are accessible in our car with the same distance as any car, in the middle.
      The best thing would be voice control. We use that for google maps which we prefer.
      If reaching the screen is difficult on the enyaq I agree
      It should be easy to reach! :)

    ID 4 looks slightly clinical, like medical equipment. Proportions on both ID 3 and 4 are quirky and childish. The air openings on the bottom on ID 3 and 4 look underdesigned. Newest golf is also not a looker with the overly fractured lights while the rest of the car is nice and simple. VW design department needs a check up

    Agree, lots of small details are better done. I like the regen paddles and the fact that you can actually select options and interior color. VW should fire the product manager for the ID cars, the configurator is ridiculous.

    • @e-redj
      @e-redj 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      In Germany VW has already set up the configurator for the ID.4 GTX, and it’s just like the Skoda. You have about 5 packets in normal and plus guise, that you can combine as you wish.
      VW wanted to streamline the production ramp-up. From the 20th of may it should be the same for the normal ID.4 and ID.3

      IMO, it's worth that extra money over ID.4. More space, better interior (my own personal opinion), better infotainment and better seats. Also, with Sportline it's less plastic on the outside and it looks angrier in the front.

      Well, if your thought process is correct, cars are still the same as they were in the 40's. But they're not. Skoda has been better than VW for years. The Enyaq is a prime example of just that. They care, VW don't. So I've got no problem with paying just slightly more for the Enyaq. And rightfully so.
