    There's lots of part sharing that goes on inside the Volkswagen Group. The Lamborghini Urus and Bentley Bentayga all share the same platform as the VW Touareg, while the Lambo Huracan is a reworked Audi R8. That applies to the electric car side of things, too, with the new Tesla Model Y-rivalling Skoda Enyaq iV sharing many of its components with the VW ID.4.
    Here's the catch, though. At £32,000 (after the plug-in grant), the Enyaq is around £9,000 cheaper than the current entry-level ID.4. It also has a bigger boot, though its range isn't quite up to that of the VW. Is there any reason why you'd go for the ID.4 over the Enyaq? Let's find out!

    I could be wrong, but I think it is part of the Dutch driving test.
    Reaching across your body to open the door forces you to turn your shoulders into a position where it's easy to observe a cyclist ( or any vehicle in a blind spot) approaching from behind.
    The "awkward" door handle is actually something that the ergonomic designers, no doubt thought long and hard about. Well done Skoda!

    The Enyaq is a really good car, and I love what Skoda achieved with the drag coefficient. However, IT IS NOT CHEAPER THAN THE ID.4... if you do spec the Enyaq up a little bit it quickly becomes more expensive than the ID.4 with similar features.

    Personally I prefer both the exterior and interior design of the ID.4.
    Exterior wise, i find the Enyaq a little too "classic" for my taste.
    Regarding the interior I prefer the spacious feel of the ID.4.
    And I prefer the panorama roof of the ID.4 to that of the Enyaq.
    But all in all: Both appear to be great cars appealing to different tastes.

    • @engholm0
      @engholm0 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      This is also where i land. I think the enyaq is great looking, but it looks more like a regilar petrol car and in a way a bit “old”. Also if you want the 80 plus and add extra features to it, it suddenly becomes a lot more expensive than an id4 with similar features.
      So if you want the low range model and don’t need extra features and you aren’t ready to jump to the more electric car look, then go for the enyaq. If you don’t want a car designed to blend in with petrol cars and you want the top specced version, go with the id4.

      I agree with both of you. Both obviously good cars though. I have an ID4 First Edition coming any day now - my main reason for choosing it, if I'm honest was to get it 2-3 months sooner than I could get a Skoda but even then I don't think I have changed my decision if that wasn't the case. I do wish the ID4 first had panoramic roof, electric tailgate and head up display but you cant have everything and at the price it's very good value.

    Hi, Great vid. I drove an Enyaq 80 yesterday (I've yet to try an ID4) Whilst I loved the smoothness and quality, I found the tyre noise intrusive on a lot of surfaces. The dealer said this was down to the 19inch wheels, which were an upgrade. Overall whilst it was a very 21st Century experience, I found the drive a little un-involving, unlike the BMW i3 I owned a few year ago. Is the VW ID4 a more involving drive?

    No need for the 80 battery or 4wd, in my opinion. Having owned and road-tripped an EV for two years, any range over 150 miles is fine. So long as the 60 does that in winter, I'm down with it.
    So save that money, go for the olive tan interior. Forget the power tailgate. Option the 100KW fast charger, heated seats, HUD and,... That'll do me. Let's see if that lot sits under £35k.

    • @redbooll21
      @redbooll21 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      to keep it under £35k you can only add one option over the entry level option worth around £500 , that can be either 100kw fast charger or extra parking sensors and rear view camera. The cheapest config based on playing on their configurator is the blue car with 19" wheels , I managed to squeeze the Suite interior (black leather) and the parking package for just under £35k. I looked around me for fast chargers (over 50kw) that the car is capable of and there are all on the motorway at ridiculous prices 60p per KW when I can charge my car home with EDF`s plan for electric cars giving me a night tariff of 4.5p per KW , that is 12 times cheaper at least.

    • @davidsommen1324

      If the reason to keep it under 35k is the gov. grant, that's actually not necessary. If I'm not mistaken, the grant is based on the list price of the model, and independent of options you stack onto it. I think that's rather "simply clever".

    On several ev’s I have seen the reviewers extol the under boot floor storage for the charging cables. However, what happens on a long journey when you need to charge en route but have a boot full of luggage?

    • @tk9013992
      @tk9013992 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think your comment is spot on. This is the same for ID4, Audi Q4 as well as the Enyaq. To me these cars are compact family cars and there are some families that have dogs, and dogs stay in a cage in the trunk. now that storage below becomes even more un-accessible. There is lot of room for a Frunk on the Enyaq if they had prioritized it.

    • @Taakeheim
      @Taakeheim 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I really cant see this issue with cable placement at all, and I have a dog cage. If you charge en route, you use a high speed charger which already has a CCS cable on it. If you need to charge en route overnight, you probably remove quite a bit of the luggage anyway or plan ahead and put the cable in a more accessible place. Side pockets in the trunk is a good option. Use the space below the floor to store stuff you know you dont need en route...

    • @Brian-om2hh

    Great review thank you - we first tested and were ready to buy the Enyaq 80x but thought "let's literally cross the road to test the ID.4..." > and we bought the ID.4. The + and - Reasons included: *COST: options such as paint are expensive on the Enya; once specs were balanced to be the same on each car (yes sunroof, AWD, HUD, tow bar etc.), the ID came out 35,000 NOK cheaper! We did NOT choose the electric seats or rear door (really need a massage while driving??) *INTERIOR: we REALLY liked the Enyaq interior = luxurious in the brown leather form we wanted, with those clever little ideas Skoda has, but the ID.4 has a more spacious (albeit simpler) feeling & that full-glass roof is stunning (plus more roomy)...by the way when you stand there looking at each car there's no obvious size difference in the boot despite the 40L figure you read about. If it doesn't fit into the ID.4 boot, it prob won't make the Enyaqs' either and you should buy a Van. *DRIVING: Hardly a difference, maybe a little more lively in the ID.4; preferred the driver display position on the ID.4 as it was closer & clearer to read. Skoda wtf that horrible tick-tock sound of the indicator!! Ultimately, the ID.4 options list gave us more freedom to choose the things that we wanted, none of the stuff we didn't, so for a 35,000 Norwegian kroner saving we have more light and space, perhaps a lesser infotainment system, the same driving, passenger seat & baggage experience.

    I choose an ID4 over Enyaq since I think the Enyaq looks rather dated, particularly on the outside. That fake grill is just hideous, particularly with all the chrome surrounding it. I can understand why some prefer the more traditional and homely interior looks of Enyaq, but to me the interior of ID4 is more open, modern and practical. Can you even reach the physical buttons located beneath the air vents in Enyaq when there are bottles in the two cup holders? I also love the touch buttons on ID4's steering wheel. They took 100 km or so to get used to, but after that the functionality is far superior to any car I have previously driven. The fact that Enyaq has a separate stalk to set and adjust the adaptive cruise control, and not the ingenious controls that ID4 offer, is in itself a deal breaker for me personally. I also do not mind VW's solution with only two buttons for the windows, especially since you can press and hold the "rear" button and then adjust all four windows at the same time. Not sure why that would be useful, but it is the only reason I can come up with to why you would want to open the back windows when you are in the drivers seat to begin with. And finally, I got the fully loaded ID4 1st Max, which at least in Sweden was MUCH cheaper than an Enyaq with the same equipment. With that said, great review! I have subscribed.

    Enyaq is better than ID4 on all levels - quality iof interior, practicality etc.. Id4 is one model only at moment - First Edition - fully loaded and > £40k.
    The options do add up with Skoda - but they ar eonly "options" - the drive is the same on any model and the case spec is actually all of the essentials. But what they have done is genius - every 60Kwh model qualifies for UK govmt grant - even Eco Suite. There is not "Entry-level" model really, it's choose your battery, interior and Go. Loft is slightly cheaper but only because hte materials are cheaper, it has ALL the samek kit as Lounge, Suite & Eco Suite.
    They all have a base price of < £35k... you get the grant based on this OTR base price, NOT the total price with options - so you can spec it up how you like (or not)... and still get the grant!
    The problem with the ID4, ID3, Kia e-Niro, Ionic 5 (when it comes), Tesla Y/3/X and just about any other SUV contender (except MG), is they all start at > £35k - so NONE get the grant.
    Skoda have done away with model "upgrades" like S, SE SEL - where you pay more for a bundle of features (some of which you won't need) - they have said "have what you want"... choose your interior and off you go. It's actually genius imo - every Enyaq is unique.

    • @engholm0

      @@Tafsern it’s not that it’s surprising extra options costs money. It’s that Skoda’s tactic of scrapping features to price the low end model lower than the low end id4 making customers believe Skoda is cheaper. If you spec them similar, the Skoda is actually more expensive, hence it’s a wrong point of comparison of price just going off the lowest price of both cars without comparing what you get with each model.
      It’s a good thing that if you want the cheapest possible electric SUV car, the Enyaq is a better competitor for that market. But if you are going to spec the car with more features, the id4 is going to be the cheapest of them both.
      The Enyaq is great looking, almost audi aesthetic, which was what i likes about it. But it didn’t take me long to get bored of the design. The id4 design didn’t catch me at all in the beginning. I actually quite hated it. But after a test drive and seeing it up close, it really grew on me. And now the id4 still looks great and not boring, even though it was too chubby and id3 like in the beginning.
