I hear these glorious sounds in my neighbors yard about 1-3 am. When I camt sleep. I hear them often in snow storms. Like a owl chorus of the bared owls great horned owl . They are so hypnotic and beautiful in the unseen blurred distance of trees and snow in upper NY Born in a city town..I had no idea what this sound was... They bring me such joy...up alone at night with them..an unheard nocturnal world oblivious by the sleeping masses. I was drawn to Owls as a child As as an adult...I have be blessed to hear them and be part of their dark secretive worlds. Thank you for this fantastic video that taught me about my nocturnal friends and neighbors.
ah i was just listening to them on my back porch a minute ago. i love to listen to their singing. i came inside and decided to watch a barred owl documentary and this was posted just two days ago! right on time🤣☺️
I would too! Are you a conductor/engineer? Cause stopping in your tracks to hear barred owls over a train is impressive, but they I think owls shouldn’t be barred from rail travel though. ‘Owl Shaming’ is a thing now🦉They would keep the rat population down.
Much appreciated! Gotta give credit where credit is due. Narration was written by Chel Macdonald and narrated by Fred Keating. Music: Doug Blackley and Downy Karvonen did the audio. Thanks for your feedback and comments!🦉
for a while I thought the owls in the woods behind me were great horned, and now I hear the sounds... they are barred owls. Always loved owls ! and we have the large pileated woodpeckers too.
In NC we have plenty of them. They don't leave. On our property I can call them in, and they hangout on our flag poles. They have acres of trees , to continue to reproduce, and ive even had one of my favorites bring their babies in close enough for me to see. I'm guessing in Canada, they migrate? Here they do not. They don't travel to far from their home.
Wonderful ! Thank you! Love Barred Owls! Saw my first ever in the swamp next to where I live in N.E., just before dawn. It was Simply MAJESTIC ! SUCH EYES! My eyesight is failing due to head trauma IIH, but I feel VERY BLESSED to have seen that owl ! 💜🦉😎
@@CanadaWild Some just west of the City :-) hope they are nesting this year again on a friends property, last year didn't, year before 2 owlets made it !
@julieandwolfgangphotograph4017 It would be nice to do some REAL cooking with some barred owls for once, rather than always wondering “whos-cooking-for-you-who?” all the time…It’s always so confusing🦉
I live in NC and am fortunate to have an easement at the back of my property with a small creek. There is a wonderful old growth forest that is protected by the easement. I built a barred owl roost and placed it on a large tree about 25 feet over the creek. Barred Owls have been raising their brood there for four years now. Last year a new pair came in and raised three owlets. The female normally goes into the roost around the first of the year and about a month later the eggs are laid. They are here about three to four months in total. It has been a fun relationship and I have seen some spectacular displays. Watched the male drive off a red tailed hawk that got to close once. Have stood within five feet of a young owlet after it left the roost. Both parents watched me and allowed me to get close because they know me and realize I am not a threat. Barred Owls are very cool and are welcome here as long as I am!
Thank you for sharing your wonderful story! Your home seems to be in beautiful owl haven. Just think of the many generations of #barredowl families that have be raised from the roost you built! What time of year do they start nesting there in NC? #WhoCooksForYou?
❤these fellas. Here in rural North Texas, they're everywhere. Sadly, overdevelopment is encroaching in our area. We have mature pecan trees and ponds, so our little barred owl friends hang around our property. We're so thankful for these amazing birds and their beautiful night calls. eta: Thank you for this beautiful documentary.
😂eta although there are distant storms, I just came in from letting the pups out, and heard the little barred owls, too. They're a bit more calm; no caterwauling 🤣perhaps, too early 😆
Just had one hoot a few houses away and he flew over above me and landed in tree then a few min later the hoot hoot ...It was awesome I have heard this owl for 10 plus year and I'm pretty sure it's the same one since they have a territory..

Thank you for your comment and subscribing. Florida is a great place for barred owls. I've filmed a pair of barred owls near Paynes Prairie, FL. Great birding spot!
That’s sounds amazing. I’ve been to Jacksonville and spent a lot of time in Florida barred owl country. I’d have to say Florida or maybe Georgia are the barred owl capitals of the US.🦉
Interesting that this doc is up around the same time we've noticed one on the property here on the Niagara Escarpment, perfect environment for them since it's along a protected old growth forest, with wet openings. This particular one isn't shy around humans and ignores me while outside working and totally ignores the several crow's swooping down on her. Shes been getting a crow a day lately, definitely claiming territory and feeding young. Thanks for this!
she may be hoping you scare up some small prey for her to catch when you do your work. i have a barred owl couple out behind my house and they will move if i get too close, but they will just stare me down otherwise.
@@KenRyanProductions it's the only bird of prey that lets us get close, not the crows, vultures, the wild Turkeys, forget the blue Heron, I see it in the mornings but it never lets you get more than a couple hundred feet, never close.
