    Thank you for sharing! I wanted to see this tree in fruit before I buy it. Now will purchase one.

      I love mine. I'm running experiments right now on preserving the fruit as I have more again this year than I can consume fresh.
      I bought mine from ediblelandscaping.com. They ship across the country if they have them in stock.

    I have one of these from edible landscape also, growing well in clay, zone 7a. I find it is very pest and disease free. I live in the humid South and we get all manners of issues, and this tree does great. The berries are kind of bland in my opinion, just to keep expectations realistic. But it is still definitely worth growing. My kids like to eat them fresh. I freeze mine and use them in smoothies, which they turn a cool looking bright red depending on what else I mix in.

      Bland meaning very little flavor? Like a melon?

      My tree was in the ground for two years before it produced any fruit and the good fruit came after year 3. The CHE is planted in zone 6A.

    Mines 2 years old maybe 3 and is about 7 or 8 feet tall why hasn’t it fruited I was told it should fruit by the 2nd or 3rd year if it was tall and a lot taller than me and I’m 6 foot

      I have one tree that fruited the 3rd year and every year since. I have another one that didn't fruit until the sixth year. I bought it from the same nursery and it is maybe 50' away from the first. Not sure why the time difference. The only other thing I can think of if you never get fruit is the possibility that you have a male tree instead of female.

    Common figs are self fertile and produce fruit without pollination, non common figs require male and female plants and a fig wasp to pollinate, these are more of your tropical figs. Common in relation to figs does not reference their popularity but their pollination needs.

    how to identify differences between males and female tree ,sir?

    • @greatescapefarms
      @greatescapefarms  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This was a difficult one to research. I found that there are male, female, and self-pollinating-seedless varieties out there. I have the self-pollinating-seedless variety which is why I can get fruit with only one plant. To get seeds, you need both a male and female variety. I found the following excerpt from an archived web page on the "California Rare Fruit Growers" site: "The che is dioecious, with male and female flowers on different plants. Appearing in June, both types of flowers are green and pea-sized. The male flowers turn yellow as the pollen ripens and is released, while the wind-pollinated female flowers develop many small stigmas over the surface of the immature fruit. Male plants occasionally have a few female flowers which will set fruit." Hope this helps.

    Hi, I’m from Melbourne Australia. Can I buy some seeds from you? I can’t find anyone in Aus selling this plant or seeds. Many thanks

    You mean purchase 2 of these things, one male, one female.

    • @greatescapefarms
      @greatescapefarms  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you do purchase a male and a female you will end up with seeds in the fruit.

    Is this Seedless Che?

    • @greatescapefarms
      @greatescapefarms  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is. As long as you don't have both male and female trees in close proximity it will be seedless.

      No, it's actually good, I just ate one. However, the ones I've eaten DO have seeds, but you can crunch right into them, very pleasant.

      JT - I very much like the flavor. To me it is a cross between watermelon and raspberry.

      I haven't tried any with seeds - only seedless here. Thanks for commenting.
