I prefer analog buttons, gauges, and knobs, so MK7 for me.
Biggest update that you didn’t cover was the torque vectoring rear that older gens don’t have. Also only found in the newest 8y rs3 and not even the s3

I own a 8R, and I agree, it’s much better than the previous one on the road and on track as well.
First I must say that that’s a mk7.5
Not the 7. The MK7R and MK7.5R not only looks better but the quality is better in every way in the mk7,7.5 but the MK8 has the power advantage and that’s it in my opinion. I’m waiting for some real buttons agin before I sell my MK7R
Is a drive around a busy block with a 0-38 MPH run and merely a subjective opinion, really a "test" of power or the overall car--for that matter?
He'd have to do about 4 laps for it to be at an acceptable " oil temp" to test anything appropriately. He basically beats the cars and goes back.
@@entity1263 At best. He turns onto a fairly busy city side skirt road-accelerated a little bit briskly to maybe 60 and goes on about all the power on most cars.

my dealer just called me here in Indiana, they got a 2023 20th AE Golf R in DSG, wanted 57K for it. lol.
That's a 7.5R. I have the same exact car/color. There are a few differences between the 7 & 7.5 aside from the "facelift". Dq300 7-spd Dsg for starters. :D
I like the mk8 exterior design and powertrain updates, but its obvious that VW really attempted to cut costs on the interior. The interior in the mk7/7.5 seems like they really made an effort to create the best possible interior space for the $.
And when it comes to the suspension, its probably important to note that one is older and used, and one is new, lol.
I ❤ my 2015 tornado red gti s 4 door dsg paid 19k in 2016 just over 100k miles now still runs great i actually get a lot of compliments 🚗

@@katiecannon8186yeah he is getting close to carbon cleaning, timing chain, tensioner, balance shafts and DSG fw (if auto) soon to be replaced, maintained. Not including water pump, hpfp, cam follower etc
What really makes me lean toward mk7.5 is it does not have sunroof, I do not like the moonroof on the new version, waste of money and extra weight
MK7.5 R ftw! Although, I do like the Drift Mode in the MK8 R

Mk7.5 only looks good to people who have zero sense of style lol. Legit, watch any 7.5 owner and look at how they dress, says a lot😂😂😂
I use to think the mk7.5 was a better look, it’s a super sleek sleeper look but the 8 is aggressive 😮💨

7 came out in 2015 for North America. the 7.5 2018-2019.
VW themselves that the manual mk8 has less torque so not entirely sure what you mean by “the internet is back and forth on it”
The paint quality on the red one is in really roughy shape

I like the shape of the front end on the new one, but not crazy about the shape of the new headlights… I could get over it but the interior/infotainment is a deal breaker for me

My mk 7.5 is the better car
Mk7/7.5 for me. I like the Mk8, but it just doesn't seem worth the money. 7 and 7.5 look better, have actual buttons inside and will leave the 8 for dead for just $500-$1000 in tuning and a basic mod or two.
Can’t the same be said for the new one? It’s got a more powerful turbo on it from the MK7. So the same few mods would make it even better than the predecessor I would think with more potential from the get go!
@@219ArJay Of course, but you're going to pay a whole lot more for the car in the first place. Plus, again, the Mk7/7.5 looks so much better.
There is a video I think from humble mechanic and shows a stage 1 MK8 made way more HP than a stage 2 mk7.5.
To me the win is in the drivetrain for the latest version
I have a mk7. Really love it except the look of my front. But I would never get an mk8 due to the made for accident touch screen infotainment system, just really really awful. Deal breaker imo
Come on man, the U.S. spec MK8R, the torque number with the DSG is 295, and with the manual it is 280. Comparing the backseats, in the MK8R you should have shown the heated seats and usb-c charging ports. No, no MK8R and even the 20th Anniversary edition is not in the low 50's. The new MK8R's come only in one trim, fully optioned out. And even with installed minor accessories they are in the upper 40's. The only way they are in the low 50's brand new is due to unnecessary dealer markups. Poor comparison especially if you're only able to drive a total of like a 1/2 mile around the dealership.
Yeah, good luck finding one without crazy dealer markups.
My friend got a DSG one for $56k and got spanked by my manual Mk7 with about $1000's worth of mods and tuning; got the stock car for $29k with 40k miles.
@@Joose yup, I did have good luck finding one with just a 188.75 dealer add on for window etching just the other day. But a lot of dealerships mark them up, ranging anywhere from 500 to 20k.
The 2-door Mk7 Golf R with sunroof is the best of the the bunch.
I have the mk7 version I don’t like the new one so no upgrade for me
I will never get used to that cleopatra-ish eyeliner headlights. The 7.5 is still the best looking Golf R period.

@@Mmt13 are you a coincidence theorist? 2 things to take account for are CV19 itself vs the way CV19 was handled… Most people NOW agree the solution to the problem was worse than the problem itself.. We saw people’s jobs deemed “nonessential”. We saw riots in every major city, we’ve seen gas prices higher than ever. We saw people getting handouts bigger than their paychecks. Which in turn led highest rates of inflation ever and people refusing to enter the workforce. We saw forced vaccinations. We’ve seen car prices nearly DOUBLE in 3 years (new and used). We saw the entire shipping infrastructure fall apart. Now we’re tangled up between Ukraine and Russia… this isn’t about Biden vs Trump. I thought maybe he’d fix thing too, but he hasn’t. This is about holding the people in charge accountable. It’s blatantly obvious things are not good right now.
Mk 8 is ugly as mk7 looks so much better. And no gas stut for engine, inferior quality. Will wait for mk9 hopefully 😂
