Thank you for these videos, My great nan passed before I got her recipes. She never wrote them down. I may live stateside, but I grew up eating scottish food and this is giving me a chance to rebuild what she taught me.
I could sit here and listen to you speak, for hours lol I visited Scotland in 2015 - my first trip across the pond! My cousin and I were on a bus tour that went from Edinburgh all the way around and ended in Glasgow. It was the loveliest time I've ever had. I'd go back tomorrow, if I could. Your homeland is so beautiful. I hope I'll get to go back some day! I'm definitely going to try these - they look delicious!
We are a US transplanted family from Greenock and my mom made these as a treat. But she called them “snacks”. She used self rising flour and just water, no beer. But they were soooo good and we LOVED when she made these. Thank you for the wonderful memories 🥰. I might have to give them a go again. 😋. Love your channel! ❤️

Cheryl when I was a kid in Liverpool they sold these in the chippys.......they were called scallops then, and still are! (nothing to do with the seafood scallop) And yeah, they are great with brown sauce!
Potatoes are among my favourite foods. Even a simple jacket potato with butter brings a smile. But the fish shop chips of my childhood, wrapped in newsprint, with malt vinegar, were just heaven. These look definitely worth making.
Tried the recipe for the "Tattie Fritters", used fizzy water for the batter and deep fried them in Beef dripping (we're from Yorkshire). What an absolute treat, followed the recipe as on the video with my method of frying but that's a personal choice. They were fantastic, crispy on the outside, the batter was perfect and so soft on the inside. A big thanks for the TH-cam video, everyone should try it, you won't be disappointed. I will try the batter with a good beer next time, just to see if they can be even better, although I doubt it. Very well done!! We love 'em.
Wow, thank you for this video! It’s brought back memories of my nana making these for me when I was younger. My Nana inspired me to cook and I am now chef in the West Midlands having moved from Glasgow in 2011. You’ve really cheered me up with this video thank you, keep safe 😀😀
Used to make these all the time, putting on paper towels to drain and son would be eating them faster than I could make them ! Made corned beef fritters too! Really good!

@@neilfromdownunder9204 I agree. I think the" potato scallop" is a Queensland thing. I'm in Brisbane and that is what I have called then for years. Have not recently bought them as that sort of thing is strictly off my diet.
Cheryl, I’ve just found your channel and this one had me near to tears 😢. My late mum, who was a cook in the WRNS and later worked in the restaurant/canteens in some of the Glasgow colleges, used to make her own tatie fritters. She made some wonderful food, never consulting a recipe book, and I so miss her. She never shared her recipes though, just saying ‘I just throw things together’. She wouldn’t have used beer in the recipe, but I’m going to try this one as per your ingredients to see if I can get anywhere near to her recipe. Thank you for all the great food and recipes you give us ❤
Hello There. We used to get these from our local chip shop, when we were kids, they were lovely. No one sells them now. I've made these before but I put them straight into the batter without any cooking. They were OK. I'll try these your way tonight. Thanks a lot for posting. Stay safe you and yours. Singem.
When I was knee high to a grasshopper in the mid 1950's Scallops as they were known then, where sold in chippies all over Liverpool. They were covered in a beautiful formulated batter and deep fried in a very hot Lard, not like todays cheap tasteless so-called cooking oils. Shame its almost disappeared from the chippies down South of England. Have to give them a try and make some myself but using Lard instead of Rapeseed or similar oil and maybe experiment with adding some cayenne or chilli pepper aswell to the batter. MMmmmm. Great video by the way. Brought back super memories. 🥔😋

Excellent, just came across you channel, now in the kitchen, all looking great. Going to be impressing the good lady when she come back in from shopping.
Thank you and congratulations Cheryl! Your fabulous tattie fritters have made themselves known here in Mexico, and my wife and I are delighted. They remind us of Japanese tempura. I am a Welshman. As a kid in the 60s and 70s I´d watch my Dad fry up "scallops" - slices of potato similar to those in this video. But he didn´t make any batter for them. I´m a homebrewer so I´ll always have some nice beer to use for these. Who knows when we´ll next be able to party. But the next time my wife´s family has a Xmas knees up, I´ll be blowing them away with a giant bowlful of What´s For Tea? Tattie fritters!!! All the very best from Tepetlaoxtoc, Mexico.
In NSW we call them scallops, or potato scallops, because the slice is called a scallop. In the rest of Australia they are called potato cakes, because they get confused with scallops (the shelllfish). They are a must in a so-called Seafood Basket from a chippie with king prawns, scallops, calamari rings and small pieces of fish, all cooked in batter. Chips are not necessary, but most people have them. I LOVE THEM!!!! Even a couple with a piece of grilled quality white fish, probably because we usually get frozen chips of dubious quality in a chippie, and a proper Greek salad, fetta, olives, onion, tomato and cucumber..
Recipe starts @2:00 after my rambling! :D x

Reminds me of my childhood in London, my Scottish dad would make fritters all the time.
You can also teach standard/traditional/authentic Scottish accent, as yours is distinctive yet wholly comprehensible and lovely.
Its just a normal Scottish accent. THEWUMMANSJOOSTSPEAKINGSLOWERCOSSHESOANAVIDYAPAL...

My dad made tattie fritters for our supper, not had them for years absolutely lovely on a scotch roll with hp or ketchup.
I made these and they are absolutely delicious, loved the batter, so crispy. Thank you!
Best one I ever had Cheryl was in Millport a few years back .A big one on a buttered roll .Lovely😍
You deserve any promoting they give you, I don’t always find you, so it’s nice to make it easier too!

Nothing like a good crispy batter and a fried potato (fritter) on a roll is amazing! I am going to try your batter recipe it looks very good. Congratulations on making the trending page. You definitely deserve it!
I live in Japan and I SOOOOOOO miss fritters!!
You have a heart warming voice. & I will be trying your version of potato fritters😘👌🏾👌🏾
Oh my goodness ...yum yum yum childhood memories
I'm from the southern USA where we fry thick-sliced potatoes, but we don't batter them. I can't wait to try these! Thanks for the recipe!
They are called potato scallops in Queensland
