    One thing we stopped doing a few years ago was 1 item stops. Especially things like refrigerators and sofas. It requires 2 men and the liability for property damage was huge. We will only do that 1 item pick up now if its outside the home already. Then 1 guy can go get it. Problem was we were pricing the pick up with 2 guys and the customers though we were to expensive and I had many sleepless nights worrying if the crew was going to scratch the hard wood floors or scratch the walls. Now we go curb side only for 1 item pick ups. For a 2 man crew we have a $300 minimum.

The last few attics that we've done had windows that were either too small for the debris or not close enough to where a truck could be parked. Thank you for watching Terry!

    • @SteveConroy1

      It's a problem for everyone in the industry. We have slow days where we finish at 12pm and we have days that we finish at 6pm. Cancelations rarely happen but they do, time of year, weather, school vacation, all of this stuff comes into play when you start talking about being busy enough. We are lucky that junk removal did not get affected by covid like many businesses did.

Interesting point I would make is this…since you are going to peoples homes to pick up trash, you have a unique opportunity to find other streams of revenue. Would it be out of the realm of possibility that you open other companies and start doing lawn maintenance, home repairs etc? Or maybe partner with another company and refer business to each other. Just a thought.

    I live in Florida now but graduated from Needham school for the high in 1990, LOL when did you graduate? I have a successful painting business down here in Orlando but just bought a Mitsubishi fuso dump truck and started a junk removal business. I like your videos and it sounds like you're doing great! Awesome. On your video you said you invoice people in PDF form. Have you heard of invoice simple app? I've been using it for a long time and it is awesome. You can text the invoice to your client or email it to them. And they can even pay over the app if they want although it's like 3% or something which I hate. Anyways, good to see another person from Needham doing well. Wish you luck!

I'll be trying out a bunch of the apps in the next month as I am planning on switching everything from old school to. new school to save. on time after hours. There are people that have rubbed me the wrong way from the start and I will ask those folks for half up front (for a larger cleanout) or I will make sure they are the owners of the property so that if a check does bounce, I know where to send papers.

I’ve been watching your vids for about 2 months now and it’s really getting me interested in starting up a junk removal business. I know you’re crazy busy, but is there any chance I can call you and pick your brain about some of the logistics of running the business? It would be massively appreciated.

    You know instead of going to the dump and throwing good stuff out, donate it to goodwill and get a tax deduction!

    • @SteveConroy1
      @SteveConroy1  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is true! Our transfer station had a Goodwill trailer at it forever until covid happened. Now the nearest location is 30 miles away and only open for a few hours every other day. A lot of the stuff that we take thats in good shape we offload at the shop and deal with it later.

    • @SteveConroy1
      @SteveConroy1  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's correct (Chris Farley's voice in Billy Madison) I don't have the slide under ramp and I'm not hauling around one I need to take on and off at every job. It would have been useless for a job like this anyways unless it was 50 feet long.

      @@SteveConroy1 useless!!!! Buddy I’m in the demo business and I got a few hino dump trucks and loading ramps are a must and I also can’t slide it under the truck because the dump piston is in the middle but is a must it will make ur job a lot easier

    • @SteveConroy1
      @SteveConroy1  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@pchdemolitionhauling3951 I appreciate the response! Are you at one job site for a few days or do you do 5 different jobs a day? That's my only reason I don't have one. If I do a job in the morning that needs the ramp, then I have to either take it on and off all day at the other jobs and at the dump or I would need to schedule time to drive it back to our shop to drop it off. With me as the only driver currently, it limits what we can do during the day. Having recently used a friends ramp to remove a grand piano, I am definitely looking into them. My only issue is the constant loading and unloading of the ramp through out the day and the possibility of it simply not fitting back in the truck once we packed it full of furniture.

    • @pchdemolitionhauling3951
      @pchdemolitionhauling3951 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SteveConroy1 We demo from a bathroom to complete house but we also do hauling construction clean up grading and concrete cutting and my guys do from 2 to 3 loads a day our dump trucks hold 20 yardas of debris and ramps are a must once the truck is fill up we just put on top of the load tie it to the front of truck box that way when you unload the ramp will stay on the truck as my experience doing this is a lot easier but again everyone has their own method of performing their job
