For clarification, those are the Altra Escalante Racers which are slightly different than the regular “Altra Escalante”. They are my favorite speed, treadmill and walking shoes I have ever purchased.

I’m a hybrid trainer as well. Typically I run (depending on the training goal) 30-40 miles per week. Lifting 5 days a week. If I’ve got a more lofty goal in mind (ultra) this gets ticked up a bit.
I’ve been doing this for 15 years and a big tip (pause) I give people and that has saved me greatly over the years is to mix and match the terrain but to avoid hitting the roads too much. Over time They will beat you down and cause a lot of wear and tear.
Nowadays, I mostly (85-90%) trail run and field run and it’s been great for me personally after years of hitting the roads hard. Combined with my Kneehab program I designed to keep the knees safe, implementing more soft ground runs has been awesome. It’s breathed new life into my running and actually taken the cardio up a few notches from all the hills/peaks.
For me. I use the Saucony Peregrine 11 for the Trails and Enorphin Speed 2s for the road currently but I have no loyalty to a brand. Basically whatever feels best to me is what I use.

I recently switched to Brooks Ghost 14's an the difference is astronomical ... Your choice in running sneakers is extremely important.

Yes working fascia/knots is important. Had chiropractors and physical therapist take me through it for my back and shoulders.

As a runner for decades all I can say is there are 3 guarantees when running. 1) You will be the fittest you've ever been, 2) running will destroy at least one part of you body, 3) one day you will give up running. Take care.

What about those elderly people that are still doing marathons?

@@schwibz very few, and a lot of them find running later in life. I've known hundreds, if not thousands of runners in my time...95% end up in pain and not running. Be smart if you want longevity, swim, cycle, low impact!

Overall fitness is the best! What brands and models of shoes are those ones you showed in the beginning so I can buy them for myself! I just ran 5 miles the other week and had a solid p e, runners high, and wasn’t even tired or out of breath by the end of it! Progress is key and so rewarding! Ty Mark!

After finally gradually increasing running volume and almost getting rid of shin splints entirely now my heels/calf/Achilles/feet are giving me a bad time. So friggin frustrating

Lol figure out what your shoes ARE before you make a video about them. Injinji five finger vibrams. And that’s the escalante RACER which makes a big difference from a normal escalante. You got the alphafly right though. Love the new content as I’m a power lifter turned runner! Very awesome stuff.
