    Love these guys! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 former 260lb runner in 2002 turned 165lb runner for a good portion of 15 years and getting an injury (broken foot) which caused me to halt running for 6 years, gaining back 60lb and now back running after that long hiatus at 210lb! This is a breath of fresh air. We need these guys on the regular! Salute from NYC!

    There's a great need for this kinda video. A heavy runner is pretty much anyone over 180 lbs. I'm 6'1" about 230 lbs. I definitely need something with more support and durability. I def agree with these choices. I currently own the Asics Novablast 3 which I agree is a good option.

    210lbs here, mid/forefoot striker, love soft bouncy shoes. My faves for road: Nimbus 25, Prime X Strung, Rocket X. I find the More V4 too dead feeling, and the Speed 3 too thin in the forefoot. Fave for trail and gravel: Trabuco Max 2. I find the Caldera 6 too dead feeling. Just my 2c

  • @RobertHarridge
    @RobertHarridge ปีที่แล้ว +5

    As a bigger runner whose done some shoe reviews on my own channel, I can agree with these suggestions, minus the Brooks Ghost Max and Saucony Tempus… I haven’t tried those. Hands down, I will say the Nimbus 25 is my pick, but the Saucony Triumph 20 is up there, too. I feel it’s more resilient to weight over the distance than FFBlast+. Daily trainer… I’m throwing an odd one out there, but Skechers GoRUN Ride 11. It’s got better cushioning than the Novablast 3, and it’s so much fun to run in. The HyperBust Ice midsole is cushioned with a ton of energy return, especially when pushing the pace. I’ll be honest, stability shoes annoy the hell out of me, but I guess the Saucony Guide 15/16 would be my pick… but I’ve only ran in the Ride 15. Similar shoe, though.
    Or, and this is coming from a heavier runner, just get the Asics Superblast. That will do everything. FFTurbo holds up well to my weight. It’s great at easy paces, at fast paces. It does everything. It’s become my go to running shoe.

    • @Fozzee.1970
      @Fozzee.1970 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +1 for the Superblast. Takes a few miles to break in/mould to your foot but then becomes perfect.

  • @bb4prelude73
    @bb4prelude73 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    Good duo to put on. For heavier runners. I’m heavy compared to most runner. But heavy because I weightlifted for quiete awhile I’m 215 lbs lean. Most shoes that people call daily trainer for me are pretty much my speed day shoes due to the compression.

  • @jarretgosbee7717
    @jarretgosbee7717 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Great points! The mach 5 is a great shoe, and I love it, but as a 190lb runner it's definitely not a shoe I should wear as my daily trainer. It's something to consider when watching shoe reviews, since most reviewers have BMI's in the teens and their suggestions might not translate to overweight runners.

    • @ahmedfarhat6673
      @ahmedfarhat6673 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Great stuff! I'm a big guy, too! You both echo a lot of my beliefs in shoes. I always thought I was crazy for liking shoes other people hate and hating shoes too many other runners love. People love to wear shoes that the shoes make their bodies feel good. I test a lot of shoes to find shoes that make me feel good on the run not that made someone else loved. Thanks for doing this video!

    I must be outlier! I'm 220 and feel very comfortable running in low stack feel the ground shoes like the Topo Cyclone 2. A 2020 study showed no injury rate difference in heavier runners running in soft cushion shoes or firmer shoes. However; it showed light runners get more injured in firm shoes than highly cushion shoes.

    I'm a lighter Clydesdale, but I second the Tempus for that protective stability shoe. I'm still on the Kayano 27 and currently only bring it out post injury or preventing new injuries. I use the GT 2000 10 as my favorite daily, rotating with the Tempus for recovery and uptempo. Still not for my SOS workouts, but super slow recovery up to steazy long runs. Looking forward to Kayano 30 and tempted to try Nimbus. The rest are too neutral for me. #bigbonedflatfootedrunner

      It definitely varies shoe to shoe but I usually retire them closer to 250 miles just based on the compression of the foam usually

    What type of mileage can you put on running shoes as a heavier runner?

    • @chadwzimm
      @chadwzimm ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I sounds like a cop out, but it really all depends on the brand and the midsole. Some shoes the outsole will wear out before the foam dies. I’ve gotten 300 miles out of pairs, and some only 150.

    Nice video. I liked the novablast 3’s but I was expecting to get more miles out of them. Foam got compressed before 300 miles. They also are slick in wet conditions for me. Been trying to find the perfect daily trainer.

      You’re not the only person to have traction problems. It’s arguably one of the only negatives about the shoe.

    • @hermruns

      Agreed about miles too - I don’t usually push a shoe over 250 miles but I think only got about 210 out of my last pair

    Are the Tempus tts? I find the Triumph line tts, but picked up a pair of Speed 2, sz 13. I'm usu. a sz 12, but these are about 1/2 large, so, I've wondered about the sizing across the Saucony brand.

    • @chadwzimm
      @chadwzimm 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I’d say length is TTS, but I find the Tempus is a bit narrow, so going up a half size may work out.

    • @chadwzimm
      @chadwzimm ปีที่แล้ว

      Brooks Ghost is quite roomy. Novablast 3 comes in a wide version which might be needed if you're wider than a regular D width. The Tempus fits a bit snug with a regular D width, so I would definitely consider going to the wide version.

    I want a shoe that has cushion but my problem with those high stack shoes are they may feel soft but as a big guy with wide size 13 feet. A high stack feels unstable and can wobble all over.
    I like a normal stack so that i don’t roll my ankle all for the sake of feeling like i was on clouds.
