The Dirty Mac performing ""Yer Blues"" from The Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus
Recorded before a live audience in London in 1968, The Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus was originally conceived as a BBC-TV special. Directed by Michael Lindsay-Hogg, it centers on the original line up of The Rolling Stones -- Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Brian Jones, Charlie Watts, Bill Wyman (with Nicky Hopkins and Rocky Dijon) -- who serves as both the show’s hosts and featured attraction. For the first time in front of an audience, “The World’s Greatest Rock and Roll Band” performs six Stones classics. The program also includes extraordinary performances by The Who, Jethro Tull, Taj Mahal, Marianne Faithfull, Yoko Ono, and The Dirty Mac. A ‘supergroup’ before the term had even been coined, the band was comprised of Eric Clapton (lead guitar), Keith Richards (bass), Mitch Mitchell of The Jimi Hendrix Experience (drums), and John Lennon on guitar and vocals.

This been on here since the early days, not by this ABKCO-VEVO channel tho. Back in the day it was way easier to get cool recommendations because there were ACTUAL recommendations instead of stuff you have already watched on the right. You could find the coolest things. Like with this you would get Rory Gallagher - Bullfrog Blues (Live) and Jimi Hendrix - Fire (Live at Woodstock) and Lynyrd Skynyrd - Freebird (Live). Last 10-12 years you don't get anything of the sort, and it sucks lol.

'Yer Blues' (with Jagger and Lennon's introduction) and 'Whole Lotta Yoko' were filmed and are on The Rolling Stones Rock'n'Roll Circus blu ray and dvd. 'Revolution' (and the warm up jam) are audio only extras on the 2019 reissue set. There's a multi camera cut of Yer Blues too, but it's just a four screen version of the same take. PS. Michael Jackson never owned the rights to Let It Be, it was The Beatles publishing rights he bought (now controlled by Sony). I actually think the surviving members don't want it re-issued because it doesn't show The Beatles in a particularly good light.

People today don’t realize Lennon was the actual king of rock’ roll. He was the one people followed, the press was fascinated by, the one other guys wanted to play with, the one doing an entire week on a talk show, giving one of the great Playboy interviews, preaching peace and love. And by remaining a bit aloof and not needing the rock ‘n’ roll lifestyle and the adulation and even walking away for a while it made him more legendary. There’s a reason 40 years after his death thousands of people still gather in Central Park each year. He’s still the only celebrity death that I remember exactly where I was and what I was doing when I heard.

This is probably a controversial opinion. For me, rock need to include elements of rebellion, counter-culture, agression, darkness, pain etc. If you don´t authentically convey some of these elements in your music, you´re just a rock poser in my opinion. That´s why Christian rock doesn´t work, rock and Christian is a paradox. Bruce Springsteen isn´t rock either. One can play the distorted guitars, have the clothes, the haircuts etc., but if you´re a passive, agreeable, in the pocket of the establishment all around happy person, you´re just a poser in the rock genre. That does NOT mean you´re not a great artist, I love Bruce, Elvis, Chuck, Paul McCartney, but they were not rock like Lennon is, like Ozzy is, like Cobain is etc.

One of those performances was originally included in the "Let It Be" film, with the flubbed lyrics, for all to see. The people who mixed the "Let It Be...Naked" version of "Don't Let Me Down", had to combine two performances on the rooftop gig to make one whole version without the Lennon flubbing of the lyrics at different parts of the song. I've never understood why Producer Phil Spector didn't include the studio "B" Side version of "Don't Let Me Down" on the original "Let It Be" album but included the dreadful throwaways "Dig A Pony" and "Dig It"!!!
