Bought my Everest new in 2017. Driven it all up and down the eastern coast of Australia towing a trailer for family camping and adventuring. I've only accumulated 130,000km over the past four years and I have to say my Everest still feels tight and new. Never had any issues and have upgraded rims to accommodate 33in KO2's. Back when I was shopping around for a new car I looked at the Prado but did not like the way the 3rd-row seats folded up and to the side which took up too much room in the back. I also didn't care for the dated cheap plastic interior. Also, the rear door swings out like a conventional door and that was a negative for me as I like to have it lift upwards to double as cover during rain or on sunny days. And there is also the issue Toyota is having with the class action lawsuit and their 2.7ltr diesel engines. I didn't want to spend nearly 80k to be stuck with a problematic motor. At the end of the day, the Everest is a wonderful and capable vehicle for me and the family.

Did you even test drive a prado or the fotuner? The prado's rear seats fold flat not up, that's the forutner. The engines are also 2.8L not 2.7. The DPF issues should be well sorted by now and yes Toyota could not have handled that issue worse. Really showed how arrogant the brand's management is in Australia.

These two vehicles are designed as touring vehicles, maybe you should load them to there max load and then do a review. Ford's do ride well, but theyr suspension are tuned for half load at best.( 2adults and 2 children). Land cruisers are expected to run with a max load most of the time. That's why they are all over the outback touring scene. That's the kind of info you need when planning on buying a traveling/touring vehicle. Come on 4x4, a bit of logical thinking would be handy. Otherwise keep up the good work.

Recently changed from a Hilux d-cab 4x2 to an Everest Ltd 4x4 coz the Hilux was so uncomfortable (ride and seats) to drive, even after a OME suspension upgrade. Tried afew rough dirt tracks, was an unpleasant experience even with around 200kg "ballast" in the rear. Hilux front disc brakes are hideous too, after 30k kms started shuddering badly on down hill 80kph braking! Have taken the Everest on a couple of hilly, rough, muddy dirt tracks with factory supply Conti tyres, didn't miss a beat! 4 wheel drive traction control system worked well. Lets see after more kms how well it keeps going, more off-roading in the pipeline.

You can fit 35s on an Everest, even with a 2 inch lift. How good it drives becomes more important as you go up in tyre size.
Anyone that says the Prado is better offroad - prove it. I'd agree that Ford's traction control is not as good as Toyota's, however when you go up in tyre size that's completely mitigated.
3.2l Everest can make bulk torque and power, more than any Prado I've ever seen.

I guess it's all about where you want to go with your 4wd, the Everest is fine for shorter trips but if you want to go exploring, the prado is the way to go with the better fuel range. Ford has some nice vehicles but are they are poorly marketed, the prado may be a bit old school, which is good for reliability and it simply just works. Ford would sell heaps more Everest's if the put a second fuel tank in (and a lot of other brands)

I have owned a Ranger and a Everest. I had the 3.2 litre 5 cylinder version. I now own a 2021 prado and I have to say it is way better than the Everest. Ranger had sagging suspension on the left side, steering grind sensation in the steering. Suspension was out 40mm and made the car lean left. My Everest also had a strange feeling in the steering at speed. I will never go back to Ford, I’m gave them a go but never again.

The ride is soft and comfortable, it eats up the bumps, the steering is smooth and even better there is no sagging in the rear suspension. Because the Everest is based on a Ute the ride is no where near as good. You don’t buy a Prado for on road performance if you know what I mean. Travelled Australia for 9 months in some very remote places. Simpson, Kimberley coast, Vic high country (hardest terrain by a long way). 80 litre tank towing a TVan. Used my jerry cans less than 5 times in 40,000 Klm. 160 litre tank just more unsprung weight on a daily basis. In short, stop talking crap if you haven’t done it. For me the Ford cost about a 3rd of the Toyota to run and was light years in front with equipment. First Ford I’ve ever owned. Works a treat. 150,000 Klms trouble free. Mates Prado, DPF, injectors, electrical gremlins and horrific service costs. I’m sure there a multitude of Ford haters out there with horror stories but frankly on our trip we saw broken versions of every brand. Toyota was over represented though as there’s a mystical belief around them being more capable than everything else. Sorry, they’re not. If you tax them they brake like anything else. The Prado was a distant second in every way by comparison. It probably has an edge at the hardest off-road point but for that 1/2 % I’d take the Ford for 99.5 % of driving as it’s superiority shines through on the daily grind. EJust buy what suits you and get on with it.
